Detroit gets so much respect from me for the music and dancing. Electronic Music owes a huuuuge thanks to Detroit when it comes to Electro/House/Techno. It spread world wide and still till this day is progressing into so many different genres of music. I grew up in NYC but always knew Detroit played a huge part of the Electronic Dance music culture. I am loving watching these videos, especially that it's my own people gettin' down to it. If only we could have more fun like this together.

@@blackestnite I moved to the metro Detroit area from Denver in 1980 and was completely blown away by the radio stations and shows like The Scene. There was so much new, groundbreaking music coming out of Detroit in those days, largely due simply to the DJs and producers embracing electronic dance music. The Electrifying Mojo was a gem, along with Nat Morris and others.

People would say that at parties and everyone would do that thing where they put their hands up and point back in unison to the person in the middle. It was great and a little funny. Being in the middle with everyone watching you was scary but exciting too.

Detroit was totally all cumbaya in the 80s & and 90s.
Get pulled over by a cop- just challenge them to a dance off over who gets the ticket..
People out there robbing others would ask the victim to a dance off for ownership of the victims belongings.
Even gangs got into the dance off scene. Instead of seeking violent revenge for their dead homeboy- they just challenge the other to a dance off.

This is around mid or late summer of 1983. Could even be fall of that same year. The first song was a huge hit in the L.A. area by August of that year. I don’t remember Reaganomics but it may have been released in mid summer 1983. That song described a dismal view of the economy and there was a reason Reagan was referred to as Raygun. Many working class felt he killed many jobs with his policies. The early 80s was not so good for many people but a heck of a lot better than today.
