I completely agree with you. It was a privilege to grow up back then. Sure, the clothes were pretty terrible, but the music (Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Doobie Brothers, Three Dog Night, The Bee Gees, The Stones, Bowie, etc), the dancing and a sense of connection with other people that doesn’t exist now was fantastic.

My girl took me to this hard core dance club in the city a few weeks ago, and at one point, the floor cleared back to form an open area where any body could just get out there solo, and dance. The crowd was so hype and my girl pushed me out there. It was clearly a hip hop/b boy dancing club, and I was no hip hop dancer. So I did this entire dance routine. It was exhilarating, and when I was done, everyone beat the shit out of me.
Times will never have this era innocence. What happened to society today? 😭 no more fun clubs. Music stinks. Girls artists are so hard and pornish, not soft and feminine anymore like Vanity, Jewel, Robert Palmer background dancers 🤩

kuddos to johnny boy this scene along with the amazing dance moves will stand the test of time the hours he invested is truthful in his dance nice work
This is one of my favorite movies of all time. When it came out on December 16th, 1977, I was 11 yrs old. My mom got me disco lessons. She bought me these pink hot pants and I wore them to the classes. It was so fun to learn some of these moves for me. I remember it was out in the boonies somewhere, not sure where, but it was in the evening when I went. Lol, I loved those pink pants. Wish I had kept them now. 😂 John Travolta has made many awesome movies in his career. Grease was another all time favorite too.
I am 71,big fan of rock and roll, when disco music came out people who were in to rock music did not so interested, but now when I look back I think DISCO music much better than what we have today's rap music ....
Same here. Remember my younger sister and I going to movies twice to see this. I was 25 at the time. I always say we had to be young and fit back in the day, in order to dance, because the records were so long 😂...miss those days!!
The last scene is gut wrenching and makes me cry even to this day just like it did when I saw it for the first time in theaters when it was released in ‘77. Several scenes throughout the movie are hard to watch due to their pin point accuracy, depicting how things were in real life then. Goes to show that movies nowadays don’t need the excessive violence, nudity and foul language to make a lasting impact on an audience!!!
My father would tell me this was exactly his life when he came back from Vietnam he was a disco dance instructor. I didn't believe him for the longest time until I saw him tear up the dance floor with my mother and his friends told me the exact same stories
I love disco! I don’t know why it gets such a bad rap. It is so much fun. I was 23 when this movie came out. On Friday nights I’d slip on my stilettos and my knit wrap dress and be on the dance floor until Donna Summer sang “Last Dance”.
Amazing. I was too young by several years to see the movie when it came out, but the soundtrack formed an indelible part of my adolescence. Just listening to the music brings me back to 5th/ 6th grade, like I'm in a time machine. Sounds, sights, smells, people's faces... it all comes back. Disco was the first popular music I ever really got "into," so it will always hold a very nostalgic place in my memory.
I was just old enough to see the film when it came out. It wasn't like today. We didn't have any picture before. But the music ! I was able to go with my older sisters (I needed parental permission). I remember the impact of that scene, on the moment in the cinema and ...on the rest of our lives. 🙄
A very well-stated, notable observation. I was in the military service at the time, stationed in MA, and also tie this film somewhat to that era in my life.
When that movie arrived.. it was a surreal event .. lasted months in the cinemas .. at least in France… legendary.. i still remember me going to the champs- Elysées with my friends just for Travolta !
1977 was one of the greatest years in movie history. We got so many films that became instant classics like Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saturday Night Fever, Annie Hall, Sorcerer, The Goodbye Girl, The Spy Who Loved Me, Network, Suspiria, The Hills Have Eyes, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, A Bridge Too Far, Smokey & the Bandit...just to name a few.
I agree. I was 19, and working at a radio station in San Diego. We kept hearing about John Travolta's new movie called "Saturday Night Fever," and the Bee Gees' music. Little did we know what huge hits the movie and soundtrack would be.
@2:28 we don’t see enough of that fellow man (as a person to person non celebrity basis) just praising another man’s skills or talent and not being a “hater” or hating on his skills at all all three just saying damm dudes got skills, “he’s the best” whether John travolta le character heard it or not that’s boosting up your fellow man
I was obsessed with John Travolta as a young kid. So much so, my parents took me to see Saturday Night Fever. I rewatched the movie as an adult and was horrified by it. We always think of it as a disco dance fluffy movie, but there were some very mature storylines in it.
Yes...in reality Tony and his friends were douche bag assholes who treated women like shit...he treated them that way because he knew they'd come back no matter what...until he met one who wouldn't put up with his bullshit...was obsessed with her...and then tries to rape her
Yes, it was actually very dark and depressing under the fun dancing. For that reason, we were always conflicted about it. And visually, the female paired with Travolta looked old enough to have been his mother.
@@mt.shasta6097 the movie reflected the angst of the 70's --- the music was really good but people still had stressful lives --- the high unemployment and inflation and gas prices were making people miserable --- plus, divorce rates were all time high and drugs and crime were running rampant in every city

The icing on the cake of this iconic movie is this scene he fought to keep in this movie as they were gonna cut it. This was my era & I can't imagine after watching it countless times I can't imagine this scene not being in it
I don’t see the reason to cut a dance scene in a dance movie
Disco was just freaking fun, and this dance pretty much defined a generation.
kuddos to johnny boy this scene along with the amazing dance moves will stand the test of time the hours he invested is truthful in his dance nice work
Immortal! Thank you Bee Gees, John Travolta and all people who made this movie!
Realmente muito bom
This is one of my favorite movies of all time.
When it came out on December 16th, 1977, I was 11 yrs old. My mom got me disco lessons. She bought me these pink hot pants and I wore them to the classes. It was so fun to learn some of these moves for me. I remember it was out in the boonies somewhere, not sure where, but it was in the evening when I went. Lol, I loved those pink pants. Wish I had kept them now. 😂 John Travolta has made many awesome movies in his career. Grease was another all time favorite too.
🤣serian adorables esos pantalones jajaja qué hermoso que tengas esos recuerdos,yo también los tengo pero los de los 80s
Amazing movie, Amazing scene. John Travolta is the UNDENIABLE SYMBOL of the 70's Disco Music.
He was so extra and flamboyant
Man, unforgettable dancing style with Disco dominance in there! John Travolta and the Bee Gees made a vibrant team!!
No they did not made a team. In fact that piece of music did not exist when they filmed the movie. Its all post production.
Totally Iconic dance scene! I remember this like it was yesterday, I miss the 70s!
I am 71,big fan of rock and roll, when disco music came out people who were in to rock music did not so interested, but now when I look back I think DISCO music much better than what we have today's rap music ....
Me too 🤩
Me to
@@vanrajsindha9918 Rockers would say, “Disco is g@y.” Remember that?
Same here. Remember my younger sister and I going to movies twice to see this. I was 25 at the time. I always say we had to be young and fit back in the day, in order to dance, because the records were so long 😂...miss those days!!
This dance and movie made John Travolta famous worldwide!😊😊👍👍
Saw this movie when I was 9 and was in complete awe of Travolta.. Something about being able to strut one’s stuff which really strikes a chord..
Brother, you should totally upload to YT one of your father's showtimes!!
Thats why we were all fit and in shape.Disco was the big thing them. The best fun and time.
Yeah. Sweating profusely in synthetic fiber and cigarettes instead of food was THE power diet.
and coke
I like how he said "Oh forget this" in his Brooklyn accent and danced all by himself. I love this scene, go John Travolta.
Anyone wishing these discos existed now?
I do. That was the era at my age! 🕺🕺🕺
Someone should bring them back; I danced @ discos back then & it was so much fun & great exercise! 🎉
Me!
Yes!
100 % !!!! Bring Them Back A.S.A.P.
"He's very good."
"He is da KING out dare, fada."
Yep - it's just amazing how music can take you back in time.
People did/do trash disco, but it’s really been a great soundtrack to some great movies. I love it!
@@dreamboatannie0816 Exactly !
When that movie arrived.. it was a surreal event .. lasted months in the cinemas .. at least in France… legendary.. i still remember me going to the champs- Elysées with my friends just for Travolta !
Scene that will be eternalized in which he lived at that time. Great Travolta 👏👏👏
The master of disco dancing
1977 was one of the greatest years in movie history. We got so many films that became instant classics like Star Wars, Close Encounters of the Third Kind, Saturday Night Fever, Annie Hall, Sorcerer, The Goodbye Girl, The Spy Who Loved Me, Network, Suspiria, The Hills Have Eyes, Sinbad and the Eye of the Tiger, A Bridge Too Far, Smokey & the Bandit...just to name a few.
I was born in 1977 too! Lol
The 70's and the 80's were the best.
"Airport '77" , "Orca" 🐋 ✈
I agree. I was 19, and working at a radio station in San Diego. We kept hearing about John Travolta's new movie called "Saturday Night Fever," and the Bee Gees' music. Little did we know what huge hits the movie and soundtrack would be.
Don't forget all the great music that came out that year --- like the "Rumours" album by Fleetwood Mac
What a great time it was back then. Great music, great clothes, and dancing till dawn.
Cocaine is one hell of a drug , ey fella
*When I saw this dance scene for the first time, I almost spit my drink laughing.*
@@newt9794 Actually, very overrated fella…
1977, I was 16 years old. I watched this movie and Grease of course and everybody had disco fever. Youth sentiment 🕺💃
I never get tired of watching this scene. John Travolta is a great actor.
😂
Straight up Magic!
His acting in SNF was on point.
Classic. I love that the woman he was dancing with in the beginning was Fran Drescher! The flashy girl from Flushing, the Nanny named Fran!
She was 16 in this movie
En serio OMG no me di cuenta
@@markthomas9687era un bebé jajaja volví a repetir la escena y es ella
That outfit, iconic 70s❤and that body! The best disco scenes and the movie now a classic.
Speaking of art bringing joy.
no green screen,no special effects,no caped superheroes.just great entertainment!
Debo decir, totalmente de acuerdo, ahora vemos Avengers pero cuando vengo a ver este baile, digo wtf esto es cine
@2:28 we don’t see enough of that fellow man (as a person to person non celebrity basis) just praising another man’s skills or talent and not being a “hater” or hating on his skills at all all three just saying damm dudes got skills, “he’s the best” whether John travolta le character heard it or not that’s boosting up your fellow man
Amen to that! Give praise where praise is due
One of the great dance move executed by John Travolta..
SNF was an excellent movie. Really captured a slice in time (late 70's disco era).
@@mt.shasta6097 Not just dark and depressing but today that movie would be deemed 'politically incorrect'.
@@mt.shasta6097 the movie reflected the angst of the 70's --- the music was really good but people still had stressful lives --- the high unemployment and inflation and gas prices were making people miserable --- plus, divorce rates were all time high and drugs and crime were running rampant in every city
@@mt.shasta6097 yeah, creepo, not a feminine face on her either
Remember sneaking into see the movie (I was only 14). Went to see it several times and learned this solo dance. Did it many times in front of crowds of people. What a rush! Now 59, and can still do it, except the up/down on the knees LOL! My only regret; no recorded video back in those days unless you had very deep pockets. Would have loved to show my kids and grand kids.
This story is so sweet! I'm 23 and most people my age would pass out trying to do this lol. Times have changed.
awesome story. but not sure if it’s true. those dance moves look extremely difficult to duplicate.
@@arayapriest1 It's true. And yes....not easy. Maybe I should record myself doing it now and post it up. 🙂
@@macker0077 if you record that dance scene now, I promise I'll watch it. I'd love to see you in action. let me know if it ever goes up ok. Good chatting w/ you bud.
This is fantastic... If you record it I am so here for that!
I can watch this movie over and over again!
Just got done watching it on tv. It’s one of my brother and I’d favorite movie he actually got me introduced to it since he’s 11 years older than me
♥️ Saturday night fever, urban cowboys & grease wasn't the same greatness
loved it!!!
Best part is, like Rbel Without a Cause, this movie is so much more than just a portrait of a generation.
OMg, brings back sooo many memories...... I miss the 70's so much and Travolta's incredible dancing.
Can you imagine this being cut from the movie? Freaking amazing moment in movie/music/dance. I remember watching this when I was seven years old sitting my brothers in a movie theater in Douglasville Georgia.
Say what you want...John Travolta killed that shit!!! 😂👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Absolutely fantastic, the dance, the music. Such a classic. Super talented - John Travolta.😍
There was a kid in our primary school who taught himself this whole routine. All the girls would follow him around & he was only 10. A budding superstar who burnt out young of an overdose. RIP Shaun, miss you mate
Damn, what a shame, God rest his soul.
Such a sad bittersweet story! Rest to his soul.
RIP
