- Hi YT Friends...Midnight Masquerade Penstemon is one of my favorite flowering perennials for many reasons including, it's foliage, flowers, seed pods, and picturesque flower stalks that can add both beautiful color and amazing contrast to your perennial, flower and garden beds. If you leave it alone, it can also add some amazing winter interest! This specific variety likes full sun, is hardy in zones 3-8 and once established can handle drought conditions. Today, we are going to divide it, transplant it and I'll show you how to harvest seed, discuss pests, and maintain it, although, it needs minimal maintenance. I have had this penstemon for over 10 years. I have given so many of the baby plants away. I enjoy it so much. Now I have it spreading all over my garden. The burgundy foliage is a show stopper for sure ❤

I'm growing a lot of Blackbeard penstemon. I love the contrast of the lighter lavender flowers with the very dark foliage.

I LOVE Midnight Masquerade Penstemon! It's on my wishlist for sure. I've run out of space now in my full sun areas, though! LOL! I did not realize they divided that way, that's so great! Always love free plants.

I saw this at the nursery but it was expensive. It's helpful to see how easy it is to divide. That makes it a more attractive plant so maybe I will go back and get it.
Yes, division helps the budget for sure! I don't understand the high prices at the nurseries sometimes.
It is worth the price. I bought one plant two years ago. It has multiplied into 15 plants through division and seedling production.
I bought my first penstemon recently. This video is very timely. I had no idea how long they bloomed or if they would rebloom.

Gulf coast Penstomen is another great one. Blooms right before midnight masquerade but also clumps out and will reseed. Bright pink/purple blooms with green foliage
