How to Finish a Strung Necklace without a Clasp

- beadaholique.c... - In this video learn how to finish off a strung necklace without a clasp. Instead of using a clasp you will feed both ends of beading wire through the same crimp tube, going in opposite directions, and then crimp the crimp tube. After you have crimped the tube you will hide it with a crimp bead cover. This technique works great for long necklaces that can easily slip over the head.

I have been looking for instructions on this and you'd be surprised how hard they are to find - thank you
me too! Every time I would look for this, it would still send me a lot of videos on using a clasp.. Thankfully they are a great site!
I must say "Thank You" for sharing this.
I have been looking for instructions like this and it took me hours and hours and days to find such a tutorial . Very glad that I found it. Thank you very much
Love this channel, love this woman. Clear, reassuring demo. Recently took a beading class and kinda felt like that challenged person in the room. Not any more! Four necklaces so far.
Wow what a good technique to use to finish off a necklace. Thanks girls!
Thank you kindly, a simple and beautiful solution!
Glad you liked it, thanks for watching Brigitte!
Very good technique to use to finish off a necklace. Thanks
It looks perfect. I'm restringing a necklace for a friend...it had a clasp, but she just wanted to pull it over her head and leave the clasp off. thank you
So glad we could help, I hope your friend loves having her necklace back and better than ever!
It is next to impossible to find "How To" info for tying beading wire for continuous necklaces. Before I came across this, I gave up looking and tried to do a similar version of your technique. By looping the wire thru a crimp bead twice to secure 26lb test strength medium Soft Flex brand wire for a necklace of heavy 10 milimeter round smokey quartz gemstone beads. It fell apart as soon as I went to hang it on a jewelry hook. Luckily at home. One end of wire slipped through the crimp. Even though I made sure to crimp it a few times till it was totally flat. No idea what I did wrong. Thanks for sharing this tutorial, I hope this works better for a multitude of rather pricey gemstone beads I plan to craft into jewelry.
Your concerns sound much like my own. I, too, buy rather expensive high grade Gemstones beads in larger MM sizes for my DIY jewelry making. I tend to like heavier, larger beads in natural stones. I found that the poly-nylon cord or Waxed Brazil Cord works best for me so far. 50 necklaces so far and I'm a Newbie. Love this new found hobby 😍 💕!
This is what I needed. Thank you! 😊
I lost sales because my top quality smoky quartz beads had big silver clasp on it. She said if I can make it claspfree she will buy it ❗️Thanks so much for this info I can make it clasp free and sell to her !!!!!!
Glad we could help!
Thank you so much !!!!
Excellent tutorial! Thank you so much. Angel from The Bay
Glad it was helpful!
I often use my crimping tool to put the crimp bead cover in place and close it. pretty handy little tool =-) nice necklaces
Thanks for sharing this nifty little hint!!
Thank you. I didn't know about the crimp bead cover. :)
Thanks I’m 14 selling bracelets now I can make necklace!
Perfect! Easy breezy.
Thank you…well described and pictures were clear. I’m off to make one…
Great!
Are crimp tubes used when the necklace has been made from silk thread? Or can I just tie a few knots to join the ends together?
Crimp tubes can cut silk thread, I would just tie knots, and if need be, use a little glue on the knots if they are hidden (glue can cause color distortion on silk)
Thankyou! @@beadaholique
Thank you soooo much you sweet woman 🙏🏽💓✨
This might just be what I need to finish my necklace projects. I'm a beginner and my experiences with crimp tubes and crimp covers so far has been dismal - if I only use one crimp tube and bead, that's one less set I have to worry and fuss about.
In our experience the biggest problems people run into with crimp tubes are caused by poorly made crimp tubes. If you're using ones that you got in a big box of many different findings it's often worth shelling out an extra $2 for some plated brass ones. Here's what we used in the video: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-crimp-tubes-2x2mm-100-pieces-silver-plated
I watch this again and again
Thank you for another great video!!!
Our pleasure, glad to have you watching Becky!
Thank you so much for the video! I'm planning to make a necklace using nylon cord, as I have plenty of it. If I were to tie a knot and melt the loose ends, would I be able to cover the knot using a crimp bead cover?
I would imagine that you could. Crimp bead covers come is various sizes, usually 3mm, 4mm, and 5mm. I would think one of those sizes should work. beadaholique.com/search?type=product&q=crimp+bead+cover
Very nice
Thank you so much
good lesson
Can you also use this exact technique for polynylon cord or Brazil cord? Maybe add a touch of cement glue after crimping the tube... but BEFORE adding the crimp cover? I'm a newbie and have only used cords and not elastic or wire cordage yet. I really like the Polynylon Cords for Endless Necklaces and Bracelets.
I have not tested it out but you can sure give it a try and then strength test it to see if it holds. I do worry about it slipping out a little but that glue might hold it tight. I say experiment!
@@beadaholique Good encouragement, thank you. Yes, I hope to try it and will do the stress testing on it for sure. If it does hold up well it will open up a number of good cordage options for us all to consider using.
Loved it!!!!
Would love to see a video with thread and no clasp that goes over the head. I will try this method.
Thank you for your suggestion. I will pass it along to our design team.
omg thank you
Can you tie the cord like bedalong 49 strand wire ??
Is it good to thread your wire through more than once ?? Will it make the necklace stronger??
Is wire stronger then stech magic?? I use big Heavey 14ml crystal gemstone beads and have a 2 year old that likes to tug!! So i looped it through the hole necklace again as well as maid sure it can easily pull over my head i wanted to tie it
Or is crimping better ?? So new to making my own jewlery
Although we do not have a tutorial on it, beading wire can be knotted. Beading wire is fairly strong, but you can thread it more than once for extra security. Crimping might be a better choice than knotting as knotting wire may sometimes be difficult. We recommend practicing crimping techniques if you are a beginner. Thanks for watching!
How do you avoid the part of the wire that sticks out from poking skin? It's nearly impossible to get the cut ends under the beads in some necklaces. Thanks
For thicker wires you can consider a wire rounder tool like this that will smooth the sharp edges of the wire beadaholique.com/products/wire-rounder-tool-with-wooden-handle-1-8mm-cup-bur
Something else you can consider is encasing the ends in a small dot of glue.
Helpful!
Thanks!
omg thanks so much
Happy I could help!
Where can i get the unfinished bead?
We have thousands of beads to choose from here: beadaholique.com/ If there is a particular bead you are interested in, please let me know and I can try to find a link for you.
Will it be secured if I used this technique on elastic instead of wire? Or will the elastic cut off
We haven't tried this but I think it's risky. It will probably work for a little while and then give out. Crimps rely on a bond with a bit of friction, and as you're suggesting i think that friction will cut the elastic over time.
@@beadaholique then how to secure it if I want to use a clasp as well?🤔
Here's our favorite technique for securing elastic stretch cord ua-cam.com/video/tQB-TCgvnYE/v-deo.html
@@beadaholique aw thank you so much ❤
Will this work on nylon or or stretch plastic? Or with heavy Crystal beads?
I don’t think this will work. I think there are two issues - one is that the crimp bead might cut the material and two, it might not hold it very well.
what is the actual term for the unfinished bead?
Depends on which you mean. First we used a crimp tube: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-crimp-tubes-2x2mm-100-pieces-silver-plated
Then over that we placed a crimp bead cover: beadaholique.com/products/shiny-silver-tone-crimp-bead-covers-4mm-x144
My necklace keeps breaking on the wire seems to be to small for the crimp beads
Is it the crimp beads themselves that are breaking? If they look cracked, or if they come apart suddenly, they may be made using a poor quality base metal. The crimp tubes we like best are made with brass, which is tough stuff but tends to squash under the pressure of the crimper instead of cracking. Here's what we used in the video: beadaholique.com/products/beadsmith-crimp-tubes-2x2mm-100-pieces-silver-plated
@@beadaholique I got the crimps from Michaels a while back and every one I put on there has broken off. I just might need new crimp beads. Thanks for the link. Hope this helps
@@peechi_yamma That definitely sounds like it could be a bad batch of crimps, I hope fresh ones help! If you have similar problems even with better crimps you might want to look at other pairs of crimp pliers. If the handles on your pliers are too short or uncomfortable, or if they wobble too much, that can make it hard to put the right amount of pressure on the crimps.
@@beadaholique thank you so much ❤️❤️
This is my preferred method for making necklaces although I still have problems folding the crimp bead in half as it seems to open back up? Sigh
How to do this with stretch bracelets? :/
