Mine has zero flex ! I absolutely love it , incredibly precise , awesome FFB , couldent ask for anything more out of a DD base ! I don't get the negative reviews at all , this thing is a beast , Fantastic!
Now all that TM needs to do is: 1. Release a profiler/customizer Software like their T.A.R.G.E.T. Software (which itself could use some improvements) 2. Release the 488 Challenge Wheel as a standalone addon. 3.Same fir the TGT wheel, or just it's button box, as that is highly prized for wheel mods like the wheelplates from 3drap.
Looking forward to the full review Mike! I've been using the T818 since january this year and I am positively impressed (that's coming from a TS-PC). I've done plenty of races (plus training hours) in RaceDepartment's Multiclass events on Assetto Corsa with it and I am very satisfied with what this wheelbase can do... and it works with LFS as well! What the T818 has given me (over the TS-PC) is more confidence by providing more detailed information about the track's conditions and the behaviour of my car (grip, tyres, weight transfer, etc) at a much faster rate. This has allowed me to push the limit to which I exerted a car on track before, which has translated into extra tenths per lap, improved consistency and the feeling of a more stable car in a race. So I can say this wheel has improved my simracing experience by communicating more and doing so swiftly. I have been able to profit from these features so my investment on the T818 is more than paying off. It is a proper DD wheel that I think fits right in the bracket of the Moza R9 and the CSL-DD, and if you already have TM wheel-rims then it's a no-brainer as a DD upgrade, IMHO. I do think it is APALLING that Thrustmaster does not include either a desk or rig mount with the T818 (you have to buy those separately) but that's typical TM, cash out on the peripherals. I can recommend getting the rig-baseplate instead of just drilling holes to make the T818 fit on your cockpit (it's not a standard size), since this provides a broader contact area and more screws (8 instead of 4) to share the FFB load. Also, the bottom of that rig-baseplate is VERY sticky so my wheelbase feels "glued" to the rig itself now, I even had to re-tighten all other screws on the rig to ensure rigidity 'coz the whole thing was shaking. I'm currently using it at constant 8nm (80%) on Performance mode and that's enough to give my arms a good workout on a 3 hour stint. I think the T818 is a proper, solid wheelbase so if you are looking to upgrade to Direct Drive and are already in the TM ecosystem, this is the one to bet on... Cheers!
Sweet! I'm definitely staying tuned for your full review. Since I already have a couple of TM wheels with my T300, I can't wait till I can go down to Microcenter and pick one of these up. Hope it lives up to the hype!
i'm a thrustmaster fan boy had T300RS and TS-WX or what ever its called loved them still use them to this day (beeing in NZ makes it hard to get DD wheels)
Would be interesting to see how the big boys, Thrustmaster and Logitech, compare as I have the Logitech and can’t imagine how any wheel could be better with its TrueForce which appears to defy physics with its realism in feeling the actual road through it and even into the aluminium profile rig it’s attached to. I’m only playing GT7 but it feels immense.
And thrustmaster just have windows software...moza has a full custom software with curves etc. And fanatec isn't much more impressive than thrustmaster either, it's like windows software with some fanatec pictures and a list with products...
@@PandyTimBR I think it depends on if you've already got Thrustmaster wheels. If so, it is much cheaper than the Logitech. I don't, and recently got a G Pro. Still getting used to it, seems good though.
The thing is when you have the tlcm and 2 wheel add ons already and you only have to buy a new wheel base it’s great to get 10Nm direct drive for 650$ I’ve been waiting for your thoughts on this wheel base and glad to hear you have good things to say right away. I heard there is mounting issues that don’t fit on a lot of rigs and you kinda need the mounting brackets.
Been waiting for you to review this base. As a Thrustmaster ecosystem owner, this is my low common denominator as far as base upgrade path. Eagerly awaiting your full review. Cheers.
Cheers man! Thanks for the positivity! I’m looking forward to writing the review. Depending on whether Thrustmaster is able to send me a wheel, I may have the review out this week
Why did Thrustmaster use this QR system, because it's backwards compatible with the current Thrustmaster wheels using the new adapter. Smart, very smart! I'v had mine a week now and it's amazing, especially when you're in their ecosystem. Racer's ask about what it feels like, that's exactly what you get FEEL! The software settings are shortbus simple, but highly effective. My current settings are: 100% strength, 20% damping, Performance mode. Adjust accordingly in iRacing per car, haven't setup on ACC. The only issue for me is, I can only additional adapters one at a time.
Helo bro , super steering wheel , thrustmaster T-GT2 PRO - games profesional supers steering 😊😊 yes super Chanel 😊😊 pozdrawiam serdecznie z Polski 😊😊najlepsza kierownica 😊
The big issue with t818's quick release system is that after you tighten that thing hard enough to stop the wheel wiggle, it is almost impossible to take the quick release mount from the wheel, I had to pry it with a flat screw driver to take it out which damages the hell out of it big time. Now I am returning it, peobably go for Logitech G Pro.
I bought an r9 after seeing beings saying the r5 would be too weak...I’ve turned my r9 wayyy down and I don’t understand how people are using 20nm bases. I’d have been perfectly happy with a r5 haha
Its not about having more force just for the sake of it, its about dynamic range. For example with my t300 which is about 3.5 nm, if i am doing a slightly sharp turn at full speed, i am already maxing out the force feedback on my wheel, meaning if i were to hit a curb or car collision there is no extra power in the wheel to cause it to jerk hard to the side like what a real car would do.
Also waiting on your full review. I have 3 Thrustmaster rims and TS base with TLcm pedals right now but I'm still tempted to switch to Moza or Fanatec.
I'm happy to hear some more positive opinions on the t818. I've just ordered one and have been seeing some negative that made me start to have second thoughts. After your video, I decided to at least keep my order and give it shoot for myself
Yeah, I was on the edge as well but will order next week or so. Since I'm already in the ecosystem switching to Moza/Fanatec would cost me as much as exchanging the Wheelbase.
@DenBoogie makes sense. Switching eco-systems would be really costly even if you went the moza route. For me, I'm jumping in blindly into thrustmaster ecosystem, I actually wanted a g pro but couldn't justify the price, if it was like 25% cheaper I would have bitten the bullet
Looking forward to your review, hopefully without any "keeping the manufacturer happy" opinions but we "trust" you! If you are able, please also review it mounted to a desk. Cheers mate!
After some really poor reviews from other UA-camrs (not securing the screw in the adapter at all causing some flex, using a beta version of the adapter which also caused flex) finally a decent one :) You really need to try this out with the SF1000. I have multiple wheels but especially with the SF1000 the ffb is so freaking great.
Could you compare this to the TGT2? I’m on PS5 with a T300 and would rather not buy a PC but I do want to upgrade within the TM ecosystem bc I like the sf1000 rim.
No flex! This is the first review I have seen which doesn't criticize the flex, which is evident in other videos. I hope Thrustmaster comes up with a more robust and perhaps metal V2 collar/adaptor to overcome this issue, as I don't believe the small screw could prevent all that flex. On a positive though, and as a previous Thrustmaster owner of the few wheels and bases, at least they are more readily available in stores and the quality is definitely there.
I was at the point of looking to actually buy a T818 base until I realized that in Finland I could not. They had a European store which was for the UK (which isn't in the EU anymore) and with prices in British pounds and with UK delivery only. Maybe they have updated it since. Anyway for me it wasn't possible to purchase then so I sort of lost interest...
