- Welcome to the channel. Thought I'd do a little video on Price Work and rates, quite often gets lads ringing up looking for price work, looking for top rates but not really having the experience or knowledge on how to make things work! I really don't think some brickies appreciate how much is required to make good money these days! Price work gangs need to be organised, well drilled and have a balanced gang with one person in charge unless they are on the split! 3 and 1 is a nice sized gang for folks the split!

Considering we’re a grand plus down on the old prices per plot I don’t think it’s us that’s the problem. We’re having to build these houses 2 days quicker to make them pay the same as we were getting before.
So when the market is on an upward trend, we pay more money! but when there is a slow down and sites become more competitive and discounts are agreed we should pay you the same? How about you earn less during a downturn? Is that ok? Because we are.

My issue atm is the excessive amount of DPC / sticky DPC . We have 4layers of some kind of dpc in 2 courses.
The cleaning of cavity’s, knocking of ties. If when you’ve scraped a snot your wall tie is a bit wonky . Drill it out and straighten it up.
Wall ties being measured and if not in 10mm tollerence take them out and re do them.
The standards we have to work to are a lot harder then they’ve ever been
I think standards are being raised so I think rates will have to increase for both trades and subbies but we currently find ourselves in a rocky part of the economic cycle so rates will remain reduced for little while yet. As the warranty providers standards increase and the Pride In The Job standard is pushed higher and higher we will have to see a higher rate, surely? Most improved trade I reckon?

I actually used to leave at 4:30, not sure why I said 4. I did always use to have two breaks though, most price work gangs have one break now
Mate I normaly agree with yoy but 25 years I this game and listen to you bang on about must use profiles and that proves yous are the problem. What you want is max output soon make max profit, why should we work to the extent were burnt out by 50-60 so you can make a fortuneand we struggle. Uts down to you lot agreeing to take cuts in prices and bashing the worker instead of saying no, Blaming the guy that makes you your money is shocking My boss never drops rates he takes the hit as he made the money in the good times. People like you have destroyed this game.

Just my thoughts mate, sure many disagree but I think there are good opportunities, people just need to take them

Are industry is not about sentiment it’s about fact production talks bull shit walks back in my day yours and are dads if you lost you lost plain and simple
Problem is most gangs want to be finished by 2-3
I’ve just finished I’m 57 and we always go site and 7.30 and finished 5 and 1.30 on Friday and we always done well through the good and the bad times
No offence but any squad that had to work till 5 oclock may aswell put their trowels in the bin. We worked 8-3 every day with one 15/20 min break then 8-1 on a Friday. We have always made good money. No half decent squad should be sitting on a building site till 5pm
I never worked to 5 but always done 4:30 and 4 on a Friday. I always felt that working full days covered for when you had them bad days when the silo breaks or there is a crane blocking your loading bay etc

Them few hours a week covers that
That’s like extra day a week so if you get 40 full weeks a year that’s extra 40 days pay a year
So all the days you can’t work for rain frost anything it’s covered

Building corners has its place, I done a video on them a little while ago but really no need with small gangs! Should be profiles all the way

Lost 10 percent on the our prices in October think that was across the board
10% seems to be pretty much what everyone has suffered

The subby im with has had his prices cut by 10 percent so cut ours by 10 but the dumpy blocks was a bad price anyway so now we get what he gets hes making nothing on them

Alot of subbies have taken a cut, I am sure that there are some that refused but when the market is good we get the going rate and when there is a downturn it is only natural house builders like a discount. I know people don't look at it this way but the market always needs a correction in order to keep going. After boom comes bust, after bust comes boom. Recessions are part of the economy due to our fiat (money) currency system. If countries and governments continue to print money then there will always be uncertainty

It is not the rate it is cos they are not organised what happens you get thew boys on day rate then they think we go on price work and that is where the trouble starts on day work they aint got get lintels and window frames and all the other stuff because when they was on day work all done for them ice seen loads of blokes like that other the years they not organised organisation is the key to it

With turnover running at half what do you think would happen?
@@Tone_Team half turnover for your setup is probably making 20%....
so when you are running at full capacity.... your profit margin is 40%+.
meanwhile these boys take the hit and their profit margins are break even or less...
@@OutofPlumb-ic5pl yeah it doesn’t work like that mate. If we could double profit on half the turn over then why wouldn’t we do that in the first place 🥴

@@johngarthwaite4051 Again, how the hell do we double profit levels with half the turnover? Are you trying to say that because we are doing less work and turning over less money we have just increased our margin ?
3/1 squad is hopeless it impossible you just run out off stuff and trying too keep hop ups on scaffolding modern sites work best on 2/1 squad
We are a 2/1 and have 4 plots on the go but still can’t organise it so have to jump on a garden wall
3 and 1 is my sweet spot for gang sizes
