Jarhead | Staff Sergeant Sykes’ Scout Sniper Course (Jake Gyllenhaal, Jamie Foxx) | Extended Preview

- Academy Award winner Jamie Foxx and Jake Gyllenhaal star in this critically acclaimed, brilliantly unconventional war story from Oscar-winning director Sam Mendes. Jarhead (the self-imposed moniker of the Marines) follows Swoff (Gyllenhaal) from a sobering stint in boot camp to active duty, where he sports a sniper rifle through Middle East deserts that provide no cover from the heat or Iraqi soldiers. Swoff and his fellow Marines sustain themselves with sardonic humanity and wicked comedy on blazing desert fields in a country they don't understand against an enemy they can't see for a cause they don't fully grasp.

Thank you for removing the naughty words, it made the scene where the guy got shot in the head much more suitable for my son

Its almost like the censorship is being done by AI and it mistook "forget" for the F slur
🤩
You can notice the amount of troops training to be scouts decreasing as each marching scene progresses
Yeah you can also notice they all wear uniforms, hinting they are in the military
No !!
You can notice the video time decreasing after you click play!
@@roy6907 wait, is this a war film?
Wow, look at you observing things.

Fox did an amazing job playing this role. Reminds me of my time at Lackland.
Lackland… Air Force base? Come on lol
Lackland? Bro what 💀
Look at his foot movement and you'll see the flaws. But he is an actor so we give him a "good job"
Okay, that was pretty funny!

Don’t call it all access if you’re gonna censor it.
Bro Jamie Foxx was so good in this movie.
Thanks bro

Thou shalt not kill is a mistranslation. The commandment was thou shalt not murder.

Nope, that's just what snowflakes turned it into to justify war and sneak into heaven... anyone who thinks god approves of war is delusional.

Considering the age of the Master Sargent he's referring to the cartoon Rikki-Rikki-Tavi from 1975. Am I right? 🐍🐹
Wow 10 free minutes for a 15+ year movie thanks.

Thanks for the 10 free minutes lol
0:28 the typical mode of talk of jamie foxx
I get that this is a movie, but I do agree that at some level deaths in training do need to be pointed out, and put on point not for just “safety,” but THIS is a thing that happens in war. People die on both sides be it friendly or hostile means.
This scene got me laughing 😂
yea they shoot 30 feet above your head for this reason
Swafforts spotter looks pissed when he was told that he'd be spotter
I want to see the ORM for that machine gun event
Is this being re released or something?
During the live fire training the Gunner specifically turns his gun to the person who is freaking out and starts firing rounds over his head it was almost inevitable that the guy was going to get shot if you start pointing the gun in his direction
Why is this video muted???
Appreciate just muting the volume instead of beeping. The censor beeping is so annoying
You owe me 41 seconds

SSgt was clearly fuckin with him about the bugle. But you gotta wonder what would have happened if he actually went, found a bugle and then came and played the best bugle since the boogy woogy bugle boy of company B.

Why are there so many angry people in the comments??
Why in the F would they use live rounds for training
Cuz they’re dumb asf.
They still do. The scene is based off of a real tragedy from 1994 during a night time live-fire exercise. The M60 is, in reality, mounted 8 feet high and shoots way over the recruits heads while they're prone under the barbwire. The rig it is attached to has a fixed angle to prevent depressing or elevating the gun. On that day, the M60 jammed, and an instructor removed it from its rig to troubleshoot when the gun fired again. Pvt Dericcio White was the actual recruit shot in the neck, killed indisputably by bad muzzle discipline. Whether mechanical failure or negligent discharge, White wouldn't have been killed if it wasn't pointed at him.
@@BlazemanGuitarX It's extremely stupid to use live rounds, there's no good reason to do it whatsoever. Same reason you never look down the barrel to see if the gun's loaded, same reason you don't put your finger on the trigger even if the gun's unloaded.
It just makes no sense to use live rounds unless your objective is to kill your trainees.
You should see what the tier 1 guys do while training in cqb.

Venom
Why are they using live ammunition in training
Because the idea is to get used to being shot at, the feeling of bullets flying at/over you.
@@enfrahgBut why not blanks
@@whatarethose6064Because then it wouldn't be a "live fire" exercise.
IRL they fire like 30 feet in the air. That way if you panic and jump up you're still well below the line of fire.

Was worse in the past. Especially bootcamp. People need to be broken to pieces so they can be put together into a cohesive unit. Pretty standart procedure in the military.

@@dominus6224 Oh my. If that's the case dunk me in vinegar and call me pickle. Might have misunderstood that one pretty hard =)
@@Careonovam No worries. Patrick Star at your service.
As an old U.S. Recon Marine Scout Sniper vet. who went thru boot and ITR in '75, BRC in '77 and the SS school at Pendelton in '78, I just have to say almost nothing in this movie is realistic. It is by far my least favorite USMC movie out there...the characters are all complete dramatic fabrications of I assume, what a civilian thinks, The Corps and SS school must be like. I call complete B.S. on this whole clusterfuck of a movie.
Maybe your Alzheimer's is kicking in but this movie is pretty accurate. The catalyst to Swoff's STA training might be bogus but the boredom and fuckery is 100% accurate, just like Generation Kill.
"the characters are all complete dramatic fabrications of I assume, what a civilian thinks, The Corps and SS school must be like."
Foxx acts like every single black SNCO I've ever met in my career.
@@YungBeezer I was just stating my opinion based on having actually been to and graduated SSS. As to how black SNCO's act, in the mid 70's there were almost none in the infantry and certainly not Recon or in SS or the SSS. I have to ask what STA stands for though, I have never heard that acronym. And finally, were you in The Corps? If so what years and what units/MOS? p.s. I had exactly one black recruit in my boot platoon in '75 and he failed the pool test and was dropped.
@@stevefowler2112 hi just a civilian here but I love learning about the military, based off my research STA stands for Surveillance and Target Acquisition.

LOL the hell you talking about
Foxx acts 100% like a black SNCO in this movie.

You are crazy, it’s his best role!!!
Is the spotter also trained to use the rifle in case the shooter is incapacitated?

Yes he’s the back up qb
I hate how they bleep out the cussing such bullshit
Marines don't respect books. So I don't respect marines. I suppose it's unfair to judge a person who is illiterate to being with. Ya know, like a marine.😐
I scored 92 on the ASVAB and am the top of my class in college, I am also a 5-year Marine veteran.
Sure. Whatever helps you sleep at night chump. 🙄
