  • Episode #139 - 7 Artisans 12mm f2.8 Ultra wide, manual focus EFM mount for the Canon M50. I have been slowly downsizing my gear for those little events that do not require the big heavy guns of the full-frame dslrs, and came across this offering. Was it any good?… Watch and find out!…

I liked your pictures at: 07:59 - Man lighting up and girl straight at the lens. 08:11 - Couple shot through an old style phone box. 08:33 - Man sitting down with upturned brolly next to him. 08;44 - Woman in the rain with microphone. 08:51 - Person with union jack brolly walking in between two buses. 08:59 - Woman in pink dress with a bag on the floor and another in the crook of her arm. 09:.18 - Woman with earring. My favourites from these are 08:44 and 08:59 as the women in both pictures display two different faces of dignity.

    Really nice pictures.
Btw will this work well when set to hyperfocal and not caring about focusing at all?

Nice video. Thanks for showing us the capabilities. I have similar UFO pancake for OMD system and it’s a nice novelty lens. Do you shoot more manual focus than autofocus or is it genre specific? How do you manage your gear in those shots where it’s raining?

With street photography I shoot manual focus. With Events in good light, I tend to shoot auto. With Events with poor light, I tend to shoot manual. When it's raining, I get wet. I put my hand over the top of the camera to protect it from the rain, when it's hanging over my shoulder.

Welcome back. I live on the other side of the pond and feel uncomfortable from here with that wide angle business. Nice work.
In other news, I thought your logo under the vid was a dead upside down cockroach (if I've mentioned this elsewhere, my bad - but as I said, its been a while) All this time you had me thinking you were grimy af. Rorshach is real!

LOL… discomfort can be good. btw the logo could be a roach splatt, but it's just an ink splatt as my company name is JetBlakInk™… Always Glad to be back, and giving thanks 🙏🏿

How does this compare with the kit lens 15-45mm? They have a similar angle of view with the 15-45mm being 84’ and the 7artisans at 90’ … similar speeds f2.8 vs f3.5 … The 15-45mm is image stabilised, small and lightweight. I’m considering the 12mm to get into (video) filming so I’m asking a genuine question. Would you consider the 12mm to be more interesting? Why?

Never owned the em 15-45mm kit lens, heard that the IQ wasn't up to much. I've only owned the em 18-55mm, and the efs10-18. The 7 Artisans 12mm is built better than all the above, goes down to 2.8, and is very sharp. I would say, as I did in the video, that the lens flare on the 7 Artisan lenses is what lets it down IMHO. If you use it to shoot video, then having a clickless aperture would be a good thing… 🤔

Wonderful photos. A little wider than I’d be comfortable with. You can tell from the perspective distortion with the elongated legs, but, great shots nevertheless.
