+Toy Man Television I second this! Sent you a message to let you know of its existence, glad someone else is spreading the word as well. I think they offer tours to guests and tickets are $3 each for a 15 minute ride.
As a western person, you should know that we call them streetcars out here; the Railway Museum has two rides; one for streetcars and one for Interurbans like the #52 you rode in.
Oh! There's an Aussie Tram! That's the W class tram from Melbourne where I live. They still run on one of the tram lines that circles the "Central Business District" in the heart of the city. It's a tourist tram is and free to ride. While you ride it a voice tells you about the attractions and locations you pass by. W class trams have also been sold to the US to use as "Heritage street trollies" in Seattle, Savannah, San Francisco and 9 of them in Memphis. One was also given as a gift to Princess Mary of Denmark (Who is an Australian) as a wedding present.
This was a really great experience! The restoration on these trolleys is absolutely phenomenal! Those awaiting restoration are cool as they are... If only they could talk!
Gosh darn it I got to you to late! I was going to invite you up here as I am a member there! I wish I knew you where coming up I was going to give you a private tour. After hours we like to screw around and take one of the trolleys out for fun and sometimes training. Let me know next time you come up I will try to get you in on that fun!
Number 652 (the black electric loco) looks like one I helped place the photograph on back in the late 70s while I was stationed at Travis AFB, just up the highway. I got my hands dirty there a couple of time when just looking around wasn't an immersive enough experience for me.
Toy Man Television → At about 6:28 in the video, the trolley slows down & stops. At the time, the electrical pick-up arm[?] on the 'forward' end of the trolley is extended. The trolley then begins to move, and the 'rear' arm is extended. What is the difference?
That shot was reversed. The reason there are two trolley poles, one on each end of the car, is because the poles put a lot of tension on the overhead wire to keep the electrical contact constant. If you were to "reverse" the car without changing the trolley pole, the pole will be pushing up on the wire as you are "backing up". When the trolley pole does this through a frog (a junction in the overhead wire for switches) the pole can snag and in a worst case scenario, pull the overhead wire completely down, which is extremely dangerous and obviously quite costly. The trolley pole is meant to be raised opposite the direction of travel, so as to be trailing the movement of the car.
GEE we were there!! Almost... We were there working on a film about China with some people. We did sneak away to the B and O museum but missed the rest. Arug!!!! Well be back!!! So much to see and do!!! WOW!!!!!
Wait a minute, which buildings are you allowed to visit? I only visited one Car Barn when I was there. Also, the MUNI F Line by the Waterfront still runs PCC cars. I don't know if there are any more heritage lines.
I met one of the Board Members, Jim, at the Day out with Thomas at OERM and he invited me up. I went this saturday, got a badass VIP Tour, and got to operate 178. The Airbreaks are hard to get at first, but I got the hang of it. I'm hoping to go back over Summer Break and Volunteer in Operations and Restoration, but first I need to visit Roaring Camp.
I sort of hate Thomas... ONLY because he keeps photobombing my shots!! But if he can get kids interested, I'll out up with him!!! Need to get back out to OERM soon. Like in 4 weeks.... Planning a trip now. FUN!!!!
When Thomas was at OERM, SP 3100 was the motive power on Thomas, and Percy's Motive Power was the E8A. I got to camp there that night, which was amazing. Something had happened and they were in such a rush to get everyone out by closing that they left Car Barn 2 Open, ALL NIGHT.
Hey Toy Man, great video, I dont mind Trams as we call them down here in Australia, I live in the State where that Tram ( Street Car ) comes from and it is a W Class tram, we still have them in Melbourne and are used as a Tourist tram now that run around Melbourne and are free, they are called " The City Circle Loop " also please have a look at The Bendigo talking Tram www.bendigotramways.com Im sure you will see lots of our old trams there as well and all in working order and still run around Bendigo.. Thanks for sharing this video ..
@@ToyManTelevision No Toy man, That was not it. My wife was diabetic type 1, and had to take a shot of insulin. One of the operators there told her to leave as they don't allow drugs. I told the man that she is diabetic and needs her insulin. He called the police on us and has us removed. My wife's lawyer sent them a very angry letter about that. The only response he got was a so what letter.
They now have one or more retired original BART cars.
They now have three preserved at the Western Railway Museum. Those are 1164, 1834, and 329.

Love them!! "traction" not so popular in the US, but I have always been a fan. The older and smaller the better.

Love that place. Planning to get back at some point!!!!
That Peninsula Railway Trolley #52 that you have ridden on, says San Jose, that's my city.
They have trolleys from many cities. Even our home in Salt LAke. LOVE San Jose!!

+Toy Man Television Yes just let me know ahead of time. Saturday is the best time for me to meet you up here.

+Julie AV Thats a great looking steeple cab. Did you mean pantograph?
+Toy Man Television BEAST of a pantograph on this thing

Saltair was built in 1893 not 1896. Just a correction.
wow what an interesting place, looks pretty cool, by the way you mentioned the kennicott copper mine , are you gonna do a video on that anytime soon?
+Toy Man Television yes I did see it, it was a good episode.
If you ever find yourself in the great state of Maryland, you need to check out the National Capital Trolley Museum. dctrolley.org

Is this similar to Orange Empire rail museum in Perris?
Very!!! A bit smaller. Just a bit.

Hum... As we ALWAYS get kicked out at closing. So I guess we would have been there all night... Need to pack a sleeping bag.

Be careful when you go to that museum. They do not like diabetics
That snack bar sucks.

Hi!! Thanks a lot for uploading this video. Is there a way to get there by public transportation?
You can get close. Then Uber or something. Love the Bay Area for its transit
Bus #50 from the Fairfield Transportation Center will take you there. Use Google Maps to find your best option.
