- Canadian Pacific 8724 (GE ES44AC) is in the middle of a stalled train in Coldwater Ontario.
The reason for the stall was that parking brake was left on. most likely caught by the hotbox detector. - Авто та транспорт
“Shit my bad guys I left the parking brake on”
Love the sound of those engines throttling up
I agree you can feel the ground shaking
The ES44AC is my favourite railway locomotive. Excellent video of one starting up
You seem like the same kind of person who likes Corvettes
no matter what other people think, gevos are awesome. i love the sound of their engine, its such a beast. almost like a gigantic motorcycle
@@unstableatoms3456 Gevos are awesome. The latest, and greatest

I like Dash 9s
Diesel locomotives are usually left running for extended periods, to avoid the cold start up process. Ages ago, at the UPRR our switch engines ran continuously for a month, then went into the MP&M shop for refresh. Of course, the UP owned Richfield oil company with fields in LA and a refinery nearby, and a pipeline carrying diesel direct to East Yards, virtually tax free. Sweetheart deal.
*Yeah... Diesel once considered a "waste" by-product - pennies on the gallon. Now they charge $5.00 per gallon? Greedy B*stard oil companies*
Damn that thing didn't even have time to do a full start-up before it was already moving!
doesnt have to
Clean and smooth engine
Rather amazed they didn’t snap a knuckle trying to take off on the head end before this mid-DPU had fully come online.
This is my favourite train the es44 and I love the engine start!!!
I love how you still hear the soul of an Alco when that engine starts up.
You should really make more UA-cam videos I've been watching since your first one and I hope this ain't gonna be the last
@@Alex-jf9ij thank you for sticking around as long as you have, I really appreciate it! Having a 9:00 to 5:00 job 6 days a week. Takes a toll on railfan work.
I can’t wait to see the new CPKC ET44AC and ES44AC credit user units!
Great well done!
Cool video just subscribed
That slack hurt a little, haha
*Thought I heard the school recess bell... - **0:30*
That DPU had to get going rather quickly
never seen such slack bang.
*That caused by lead unit pulling out and slack catching up to DPU?*
@@JungleYT Yes
@@Philios2Glory1 *Once read how the old cabooses had handles inside, because slack catching up could knock over a cup of coffee as well as knock out a couple of teeth! LOL*
nice. ty
interesting.. new subscriber
So if the reason for the stall was the parking brake, then why did they need to bring the DPU online as well? They made it that far without it, and WITH the parking brake engaged…
The locomotives have an auto "start/stop" system that shut the down after idling 5 minutes to conseve fuel. It's a real pain when waiting to meet a train and you want the AC on. Also a hand brake being on would not cause a stall but would cause damage to the equipment, thats why the crew stopped. We had to do this yesterday on a rail car that was 109 cars back from the head end.
@@IFLYBELL thanks for the insight! i didn't know they had start/stop systems
@@TheChenza05
That’s how the DP unit in this video started, there’s nobody on it.
0:29 what's turn on? pre-lub pump?
Yessir
ES44 looks great in CP colours.
Does anyone know how they start DPU's in the middle of a train?
They automatically shutdown and start to save fuel.
@@FreddyMcFredd Ah okay, thanks!
Have a good one!
@@canadiantrainperson
They also start when the reverser on the lead/controlling locomotive is thrown forward or reverse and the throttle is in N-1.
......and that folks is just how quickly your train can be stolen....😢
Or how fast it can move while somebody’s crossing through the train over a coupler or crawling under it.
747 LIKES holy crap I didn’t realize 😨just this year (or last year idk) the Boeing 747 got discontinued, R.I.P a great airplane series 🫡
ES44AC DPU POWER ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️MID LOCOMOTIVE STARTUP AND TAKEOFF 🚂🚂🚂.
Why do Canada put a locomotive in the middle of the train
It helps to supply power and braking air pressure further down the train instead of having the lead locomotives alone for the breaking air pressure as it takes a long time to travel the length of the train
1:30 anyone notices the jutting here?
That thang got a hemi?😊
Not a HEMI, it is a GEMI.
No warm up?
Bite the pillow
It’s probably already warm, or the head end units would’ve had to warm up also. Besides, the auto start/stop system will keep the engine warm by starting it when it gets below a set temperature. Also, some railroads have updated the locomotive software to disable the auto start/stop when the unit is set up in the DP Remote mode. This prevents no start issues when it’s time for the train to get moving.
@@ralfie8801 ah...
Is that AC 6000
no it is a GE ES44AC

Just a DPU coming online. Nothing to see here folks!!!
Hey buddy thanks for explaining exactly what I saw on this video. I needed an explanation on this locomotive in DPU mode starting up. *sarcasm*
That’s why I clicked on the video ya goon 🤦🏻♀️
plenty to hear ya hick
Still sounds cool tho!
