Getting ready to do this for the first time on an almost new bike I picked up. Would it be that much harder to pull the whole carb off so I could spray it all down with carb cleaner? Any things to watch out for? Thanks!
Nah its not. But its also usually not necessary. 99% of problems will be in your bowl. In fact, 99% of problems in the bowl can be isolated down to pilot jet or needle / seat.

There is a little hose on top of the carb. Where does it run? Mine is missing and find where it goes too.

My sons bike just won’t start anymore after our last ride. It won’t even bump start. I’ve checked battery and fuses, has new gas, do you think this should be my next step to take to try and get it fired up again ?!
The pilot jet should always be the very first thing, yes!

Exaust didn't need to come off

My son's bike in third gear almost stalls each time, should I start with cleaning the jets?
If it's a carburetor problem, it shouldn't matter which gear the bike is in.
Checked the jets, those were clean. Could bike need jetted or something else wrong? Third gear is the only problem has no power and almost stalls.

Undo the intake at the head and leave on carb ,undo clamp on air filter ,make sure fuel is drained from carb. Float and needle in carb is very delicate so do not push on. Check all ports and orifices for blockages.No need to take exhaust off
