That's why I stay away from bookstores. My wallet cannot handle my vice of buying every book that looks interesting (even though I don't have time to read any of them)
He refers to himself as 'a college dropout' and is so much more reflective, erudite, and effectively analytical than any professor I've ever had. Apparently, you can fall head over heels for someone just by hearing him describe the contents of his book bag. He is a rare and beautiful being.
Books in order of mention: Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri The Fairy Tales of Oscar Wilde Metamorphoses by Ovid Ulysses by James Joyce 1984 by George Orwell
it`s a high form of art how he manages to weave references from classic literature into his songs and how he does it so beautifully and understandable for everyone
Hozier's intellect never ceases to amaze me. The novel he found difficult to read (Ulysses by James Joyce) is actually considered to be one of the toughest one's to read since it's written in stream of consciousness which can sometimes be quite tricky to understand. Hozier's reading list is top tier ❤
That's it, he speaks directly to those of us similar and in that similarity we find alot of comfort, especially in today's world, knowing that we are not alone with the feelings we have. There's a good interview with Zane Lowe where they speak on feelings more, you might enjoy that.
Ulysses by James Joyce is SUCH a challenge. But I had a really good professor who spent 20 years of his career disecting the work and made it really rewarding to read.
I was lucky enough to once talk about a particular book with him and it amazed me that he read it and knew so much about it! Glad that he is a book worm too!
"If I obsess over something, I'll allow it to ruin my life..." Yes, like how I spent the wee hours of the morning trying to understand the De Selby music video. XD This man gets me. :D :D :D
He's like the male version of Florence Welch. She reads a lot of classic female authors and let's their works inform her songs. The both of them are like yin and yang
He speaks about books as passionately as he writes and sings his songs!! Also him saying “when I’m obsessed over something, I’ll allow it to ruin my life” is all of us! I’m currently reading 1984 Can’t wait to see him in concert in a few months!!
A lot of points hit here that I can relate to. Of course that hyperfixation-element of loving something so much that it kind of occupies every crevice of your mind... Books, songs, movies... I get that. Don't talk to me during these stretches of time because I wíll include it in every conversation I have. Then obviously the TBR list forever expanding. (The two books I got at the second hand shop this week are just staring me in the face from the bookshelf right now.) But mostly the last bit about poetry... I've picked up more poetry in the last few months myself and what he says about the intimacy of it really resonates. It's like getting to brush with someone's soul in a way? And when you find things there that you click with, it's such an oddly intimate level of connection to have with a stranger. Anyway! I really liked this video! The guy has an interesting mind. *Goes to buy Dante's Inferno*
1984 is a favorite. I was so sad that Winston did not make it. It was so disappointing for me to see that. I can see that Hozier is well read. He uses such lovely vocabulary in his music, and so many meaningful images come to light through his music.
@@hugendubel wie werde ich teil eures social media teams weil ich würde so eine dämonische Freude dabei empfinden irgendwelche random nicht deutschsprachigen stars dieses Wort aussprechen zu lassen
Just because of Hozier, I'm forcing myself to read 'Ulysses', which I had pushed for a long time. I read somewhere that if you want to read 'Ulysses' first you need to read: 1. Hamlet 2. Odyssey 3. The dubliners 4. Chamber music 5. The portrait of a young man.. And 6. Dante's Inferno So after having read 1 and 2, I read 'The dubliners' and I'm resding the rest now.😅
The Oscar Wilde fairytales are lovely ❤ would definitely recommend you to read them if you are into the genre. You probably will like it if you like hozier's music, lyrics, and the themes he focuses on 😊
Oh wow. Ich dachte immer Hozier könnte gar nicht noch attraktiver sein, aber sein Buchgeschmack gibt einfach unendlich viele Sympathiepunkte. Richtig tolle Auswahl großartiger Bücher!
Very out of context, but does anyone know where the book bag is from? I have the same one myself, my dad bought it from one of his travels and has forgotten where he found it. A schoolmate had one too but also did not remember where it was from. And now i see i share the same canvas bag as hozier and i’ve become even more desperate to know its origin :,)
Okay, but what I wonder is, after having watched several of these and in every one the person asked pretends their favorites are all classics... Is that a media training thing that the celebrities are doing or did the company doing the interviews make them do it? And either way, why? Because I know there's no way that's everyone's real reading taste. That every famous person asked is really the guy who actually reads classics.
Idk about the others but Hozier has always referenced classic literature in his songs. He even just released a whole album around the concept of Dante’s 9 circles of hell. So this is definately not a pr stunt. You can also tell by the way he talks about them.
"When I obsess over something, I'll allow it to ruin my life" he's just like me fr
This. 💯
real
This is me.
He's just a girl
"I'm not a 'good' reader"...proceeds to whip out a bunch of intricate and influential classics that I couldn't handle outside of a classroom...
Now we gotta get Jack Edwards to analize his book taste
I was looking for this comment 😂
I wrote a comment in one of his videos and asked him to do it!
I hope hw reads it!🤞
You don't understand, i need this!
uncarley read some of his favorite books a couple years ago and did a video!
@BaileeWalsh omg I miss carly's book videos. I wish she would made more book content.
I love that he's a musician for book nerds
😂 I never thought of it like that but i think it does take a bookish type of person to fully appreciate his lyrics
"with a tool like a wrench or a hammer you can build a house or you can smash a skull"
i love his dark associations
"I walk into a bookstore intending to buy one book and walk out with seven..." He's just like me FR
That's why I stay away from bookstores. My wallet cannot handle my vice of buying every book that looks interesting (even though I don't have time to read any of them)

Definitely not a reader. 😁

me, but with unreal unearth ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
He had me at "Im not a fan of Kindles".
“It’s in the brickwork of my head” WOW what a line
it`s a high form of art how he manages to weave references from classic literature into his songs and how he does it so beautifully and understandable for everyone
"The work is finished by the listener. " omg, where is my notebook
No literally!!!
I like how in this case "booketlist" is a pun on this being a LIST of books AND close to how Hozier would actually say "Bucketlist"
I feel like i should be taking notes whenever he talks
Hozier's intellect never ceases to amaze me. just the last chapter is stream of consciousness though
If you *haven’t* had trouble reading “Ulysses”, are you really a reader? 😂
this video could be 15 hours long and I'd watch every second twice over
Maybe we should release the uncut version...

Having a similar book collection to Hozier gives me comfort that I’m on the right track as a man. What a role model
No wonder I love his music, he is intelligent, articulate, sensitive and the opposite of superficial
That's it, he speaks directly to those of us similar and in that similarity we find alot of comfort, especially in today's world, knowing that we are not alone with the feelings we have. There's a good interview with Zane Lowe where they speak on feelings more, you might enjoy that.
So glad to see Hozier's take on 1984. Delighted to know it's focused in anti-war and anti-imperialist sentiment
Ulysses by James Joyce is SUCH a challenge. But I had a really good professor who spent 20 years of his career disecting the work and made it really rewarding to read.
David Norris?
What is your favourite chapter and why? :)
I was lucky enough to once talk about a particular book with him and it amazed me that he read it and knew so much about it! Glad that he is a book worm too!
which book? you are so lucky 🥺
I am so jealous and happy for you
Classic literature and beautiful music are my two truest loves - thanks Hozier for feeding my soul
I love how he has been wearing the same jacket over and over. A man who lives his principles. Love him so much ❤️
"If I obsess over something, I'll allow it to ruin my life..."
Yes, like how I spent the wee hours of the morning trying to understand the De Selby music video. XD

Just some everyday light reading lol. Hozier is a boss. Mad respect.😎
He's like the male version of Florence Welch. She reads a lot of classic female authors and let's their works inform her songs. The both of them are like yin and yang
Except without the racism
The intellect in your lyrics, your poetry readings, & your book shares…Wow and thanks! …as if you don’t have enough going for you. You’ve got it all.
Vielen, vielen Dank für dieses Video! Ihm zuzuhören ist immer wieder ein Segen für meine Ohren

By the way, his Ulysses copy is gorgeous

I adore the fact he's read Ovid. What a beautiful, reflective man
this man is different. i can't even describe HOW friggin much i love him.
i could listen to him talk for hours, also i wanna know more about the poetry 👀
he has hours of poetry lives on his instagram
Oh Hozier, can I love you more? Probably, the next time I hear you. Thank you for this lovely visit.
Very nice selection of books! Some of them are favourites of mine too.
watch me go out and read all of these now 😭
Thanks for that, got all of them except this Oscar Wilde one. Ulysses is sitting on my shelf, waiting to be read.
The Oscar Wilde fairytales are lovely ❤ would definitely recommend you to read them if you are into the genre. You probably will like it if you like hozier's music, lyrics, and the themes he focuses on 😊
What an intelligent and humble fellow!
Goddamn this is some big time stuff here. Cool video; look forward to giving the album a listen.
Loved watching this and all the book recomendations.
What stunning editions!

his taste is immaculate
"The work is finished by the listener." I'm going to get a tattoo of that.
This. 🙌
Ulysses is one of my favorite books of all time. I knew the bog man was my boi. He gets it
He has such a beautiful mind.
I just clicked on the video randomly and it turned out it is about books and I liked it
Because of him and books . You earned a new subscriber..
I feel like you can hear the influence that Ovid's metamorphosis has had on him though his songs. Its beautiful.
All right Andrew! I will read Dante's Inferno! 🙃
I adore The Divine Comedy!! He has great taste.

When will I ever get the chance to meet you, I tried to go to Dublin a few days ago, but I could not make it. I'm so in love

Thanks for the closeups of his hands. I'm disgusting, I know, but what are you gonna do.

That is our very own Hugendubel tote bag!
I read 1984 when I was 15 as well. It's so uncomfortably good and very very unhealthy for a chronical overthinker/deepthinker.
i wonder if he’s read animal farm, it’s another george orwell novel. It’s fantastic.
how long until jack edwards gets to this one
I love him
the BOOKET list?!!🥲

He has a neutral Irish accent, sort of middle class
On his cd his accent is definitely a created Irish accent...
