I'm so glad they honored Ernie this way. I have so many memories of going to the games as a kid, and I don't remember if it was announced or just up on the screen - "Ernie Hayes on the Baldwin organ!" And when I grew up and moved and went to other ball parks, it just wasn't the same without Ernie's music. To me that is what a ball park is supposed to sound like. He and his music has a permanent spot in my heart. Thanks for posting this!
Any one who said NO on this doesn't understand what Ernie hay's meant to the Cardinal's fans. He was their organist for many ;years before he rfetired that night
@RickO4404 - At least Hays got a decent sendoff. The Phillies built Richie Ashburn Stadium...err...Citizens Bank Park without an organ booth, and Paul Richardson had to play in Ashburn Alley, the outfield concourse. The Phils put Richardson out to pasture after the 2004 season, which was the first at CBP. He died two years later, and the Phils are merely using canned renditions of Richardson's performances.
Put it this way, lets all agree that both of them, Nancy Faust of the White Sox and Eddie Layton of the Yankees were the best organists of all time! Coming from a Dodger fan
Eddie Layton was also the IN HOUSE organist at WCBS IN NEW YORK, where he played background music for all the afternoon soap operas filmed there..He had a custom model Hammond B-3....
Ernie was and will forever be "The King" of organists.
He puts "The King" in "Here comes The King"
No, Eddie Layton was the king of organists.
I am a Cub fan and I think the atmosphere at Busch was awesome and Ernie Hays was great!!!!!
Raymond Smith i agree

Cardinal fan here, but IMO, Nancy Faust of the White Sox was far better than the rest!

@Medic83301 Wrong! Nancy Bea Hefley is the best!
