This scene felt so real, when Sulu talks about all the people he’s lost, especially with the many passings of the original series cast members, makes it real so tragic but also heart warming

I'm glad I'm not the only one.
I was chronically homeless right out of high school and I've only recently managed to establish myself with an actual sense of financial stability. I bought a house and I've started a family.
Along the way I've seen the good, the bad, the ugly... And have had many people touch my life in ways they'll never know how much it meant.
Many of these people are victims of circumstance one way or another, and due to the nature of mobility while homeless I've lost contact with many of them, some probably fine, some probably dead, some I know are dead.
None of them deserved what they went through. The dead have paid their debts, it's up to the living to pick up the tab.
Sulu's words came from george, and I appreciate every one of them.

  • @bemasaberwyn55

That DEFINITELY felt like George talking to us, and not Sulu. And GODDAMN did that pluck them heartstrings. Side tangent a few months ago George was actually here in the city that I live in for a convention and I got to meet up with him again as I had met him around the time that the 09 film was coming out in Calgary. I got to chat with him briefly and when I got my photo taken with him I had brought in this kind of discount Lego version of the Enterprise and George actually started to fly it around after we got the picture taken. Which is both absolutely adorable as well as extremely heartwarming. But I bring it up because there was actually some lower decks love during that convention in the form of two people who walked by wearing chu chu shirts. So to get a reference to the chu chu song as well as George it I got a little emotional and I have a feeling that those two people in the chu chu shirts are definitely thinking about that con today

I once took a photo with Nichelle Nichols at a San Francisco Comic-Con in 2017. I was on vacation in the USA at the time, so this was a treasured memory for me. The sad thing is that death, no matter what form it takes, is inevitable and what we've done during our lives will eventually disappear. We don't care what our parents consider important during their lives and our children certainly don't care about what we consider important. We all have lives to live, and life will move on one way or another.

    • @Raguleader
      @Raguleader Рік тому +14

It's also possible that neither Spock or McCoy could properly care for the place, as neither of them seem to retire anytime soon. The three of them were all workaholics. McCoy is still serving in Starfleet when Picard takes command of the Enterprise D decades later. Sulu is the first member of the crew Kirk sees showing any signs of wanting to settle down, with his deciding to start a family.
Why not let the guy look after the farm and give Sulu's family a place to get away from the excitement and relax?

I haven't seen any comments that mention that both Boimier and Sulu reference Star Trek Generations. Sulu says Kirk is "time traveling" or something like that. And Kirk did time travel to the future where he battled Soran with Picard and died. Boimier completes this by asking "is this the Nexus" which was prominent in Star Trek Generations.

The USS Defiant needed shielding around the warp core otherwise it was hazardous to health, if I remember correctly Odo accidently killed another changeling when he pushed it into the base of the Warp Core aboard the Defiant, it was enough to fatally wound it.

I've been seeing a lot of clip of this show, looks amazing, but I've been so far unsuccessful in finding where to see the actual show, at least here in Canada. It's impossible to find... Then I found out there's actual DVDs I can buy! :p

I like to think that was the real Captain Sulu giving Boimler some much-needed counsel in his time of need, but it's just as likely that Boimler was enough of a fanboy of the old crew, and now experienced enough on his own, to come up with that in his own head.
With all the whatever that happens in Trek, there are all number of ways that Sulu could have spoken to Boimler even without either of them being in the afterlife. When stuff like this happens that we can't explain, we just say a Q did it.

Don't know why people are taking sides with Shatner or Takei. The simplest answer is they're two people who worked together and didn't get along. It happens in the real world all the time, why would TV be any different?
What this scene does make clear is that Sulu and Kirk had a good relationship, to the extent that Sulu gently makes fun of Kirk's inability to relax. As a fan, that's what interests me, not some BS about the actors.
