Three 6 Mafia, otherwise known as Triple 6 or da Mafia, is an iconic, GRAMMY award winning, American hip hop group from Memphis, Tennessee. The group's membership varied from album to album, the constant duo being Juicy J and DJ Paul. Other members included Gangsta Boo, Crunchy Black, Lord Infamous, and Koopsta Knicca. Since beginning their career in 1991, the group achieved worldwide fame with their distinctive style of Memphis crunk, characterized by choppy, shouted lyrics and drum machine beats. The South has been producing this stuff for years. Manny Fresh, DJ Paul and many producers from the early No Limit Records have been making music like this in the south since the 90's. Only difference, they were regional/local music until songs like "Tear The Da Club Up" and "Back That Azz Up" became mainstream hit singles in the late 90's. They were mostly ignored before this due to G-Funk/Gangsta Rap and Northeastern Boom Bap dominating the scene.
