  • Dating all the way back to 1903, the S-Class undoubtedly has the richest history of any luxury sedan. What's more, every generation of the S-Class since then has compelled the entire auto industry to rethink not only its definition of what constitutes excellence, but what's possible for the automobile itself. Here's a brief history of how this iconic luxury sedan has redefined what it means to be the best, year after year.

    Dominance over land, sea and air! There is a reason why their slogan says that.
    Mercedes invented the automobile and have kept reinventing it and improving it for 130 years now.
    And they dominate the luxury market. If you ever get the chance to drive, or even ride in an S65, you will understand what I mean. I have driven an S65 and it's pretty much the most amazing thing you can have on 4-wheels.
    Mercedes for life.

    The W186/189 Adenauer and W100 600 were never considered to be "S Class" cars. The W180/128. W111/112, W108/109 and W116 were the "s class" models of those eras. A more accurate comparison for the Adenauer and 600 is the W/V240 Maybach.

    After making them for so long you would think that they would have got better at it. I am on my fourth Mercedes now , I had two E class and I am now on my second S class limo, when they made the 210 e class the quality control must have been asleep. There appeared to be many paintwork problems, and they had inbuilt rust, electrical problems and after replacing the anti roll bar links 4 times and rust appearing everywhere I had had enough and sold it. My first w220 appeared to be ok but soon started to rust, the front seats had cheap plastic surrounds around the bottom edge and they soon started to crack and fracture, there were suspension problems and many different electrical problems so in the end it had to go. After that heap of ***** I thought that they can't all be that bad and I bought another W220 limo and yes, it was the same and when you go to the dealership/agents they just want you to bend over so they can shaft you, that is why there are so many in scrap/breakers yards. If they are so good why do they loose so much money/value after three or four years.

    • @E34Benzin
      @E34Benzin 5 років тому +2

      Those are the worst years of Mercedes. The W220 is by far the worst S-Class ever.
      The W221 is a resurrection, but it isn't as good as the W140 was.

    • @strglz7293
      @strglz7293 5 років тому

      "that is why there are so many in scrap/breakers yards" wrong, there are only two in scrap yards in my whole state. The W220 is not perfect indeed especially regarding its Airmatic suspension which has been known to break down easily, but remember that these cars back then were aiming at high class people who could afford to buy them cash. No one is stupid enough to take a lease on a 2018 S-Class, and neither were people when the W220 came out. So if you can afford a luxurious car, you can technically afford to pay for the repairs. Now the W220 is not new, but the repairs you have to do on it are still the same, so you may have paid 5000$ for your car, but do not complain if you have to put money on the table to maintain it.

    When buying a new vehicle in 2006 we had the option of an S500 or the then new R500. Having a family we went with a fully optioned R class. Wish we would have done the S class. Hind sight is 20/20.

    Again, M-B is guilty of some truth stretching here. There were several cars with antilock brakes before 1978 (@2.30), and thousands of owners of airbag-equipped 1970s Ford and GM cars will be surprised hear that Mercedes offered the "world premiere" of the driver's airbag in 1981.

    • @jduwayne1
      @jduwayne1 2 роки тому +1

      @reda souhaile: Seriously!? It was Hitler that allowed Mercedes to continue manufacturing only during WWII automobiles, while he ordered BMW to make planes, VW & other major German manufacturers to develop other war equipment. But its unnecessary to mention Hitler for the accomplishments of Daimler-Benz S-class production…!

  • @gotham61
    @gotham61 10 років тому

    What a ridiculous way of thinking. Mercedes didn't say they made the first "non shitty" ABS brakes and airbags.
    Using your approach, I could say that the 1885 Benz Patent Motorwagen was a pretty shitty car, and it was actually Cadillac who made the first "true" car.

    • @christophermarshall5765
      @christophermarshall5765 5 років тому

      And you're a fuckwit. The patent moterwagen was not in 1885, it was in fact 1886. It was called the FIRST car, as it was PATENTED as the first vehicle built purposely to be engine driven. The world's FIRST woman driver was in actual fact Karl Benz's WIFE, Berta!! She drove this vehicle to see her mother in Forzheim. This was also documented as the world's FIRST LONG DISTANCE drive. Now you IDIOT, keep your YAP SHUT!!!

  • @halabi97
    @halabi97 10 років тому +3

    They were shitty and didn't function properly, MB made the first "true" airbags and ABS breaks
