When it comes to guitar legends, no one would question the extraordinary talents of the late #EddieVanHalen. Fewer, however, will know of #JasonBecker, the sixteen year old phenom who exploded on the Rock scene in the mid 1980’s only to contract ALS by the age of twenty. Although Jason continues composing music (by using his eyes in a system developed by his father), his days as a lead guitarist were short. But two albums (produced with his friend Marty Friedman) and stints with David Lee Roth cemented Jason’s place forever in the world of Rock greats.
Several years ago, this auction sold the three instruments Jason himself played. The proceeds from that sale have gone a long way in easing the life of a man, now in his fifties, forever burdened by his crippling disease. But demands are such that we are now offering Jason’s most treasured instrument - Eddie Van Halen’s personal Peavey #EVH #Wolfgang guitar.
While Eddie was known to have greatly admired the work of Jason for years, on August 31, 1996 the two men met for the first time when Van Halen visited Becker’s Southern California home. In a video (linked below) recorded by Jason’s parents, Eddie Van Halen played a section of Eruption (as well as other tunes) on the guitar before handing it over to the wheelchair-bound artist. He then inscribed the instrument: “Jason. We will play guitar together in the future. Love - from heart to your soul. Eddie Van Halen, ’96.” The two men remained close friends through the end of Eddie’s life.
Production of the Peavey EVH Wolfgang signature guitar (named after Eddie’s son) had just begun at the time of the gift. Jason’s instrument, designated #69, had been culled from the first 100 examples of the model that were made after Eddie tested each one and selected a handful that he deemed best for his personal use. Once selected, the guitar was re-inspected and set up by Jim DeCola, Peavey Guitar Design Engineer / EVH Wolfgang Designer. Jason Becker’s thumbprint now appears on the back of the neck, reflecting its ownership by two true guitar icons.
The instrument comes with an original Certificate of Authenticity and, should the buyer wish, an opportunity to meet with Jason Becker.

Jason was the best guitarist I’ve ever heard and still is such an amazing composer. I’m stoked to have his numbers guitar from kiesel. It’s killer! Eddie was such a huge inspiration as well, what an amazing piece of music history.
If just any of us suscribers here in Norman Rare Guitars would gave 5 dollars making a crowdfunding, Jason could keep the guitar that Eddie gave him with so much love. I think he’d be very happy to have that special gift with him again. Money for his medical care, the guitar for his soul care.

Thank you for making this video. Jason Becker is one of my top five guitar players, and it's great you are helping him. Eddie was an amazing and nice guy that made Jason happy (other than being a guitar legend). With that guitar he gave him he keeps helping him, which is something awesome.

I love that so many people come to back Jason. I'm a Kiesel buyer and they are another big supporter. It is wonderful to see a community come together to raise up one of their own. I wish I had the means to purchase such an instrument. If I did, I'd do it in a heartbeat.

It’s incredible that a great tragedy, like Jason’s illness, can produce an extraordinary amount of love and inspiration. The only thing greater than Eddie’s musical genius was his beautiful heart. Thank you guys! What a treat to hear Lemmo rock that guitar!

Very cool of you guys. My wife is a hospice nurse and she has stories of people losing their homes and going bankrupt even before they pass away. The bills are crushing, and it is nobodies fault that they are in these hopeless situations. There has got to be another way than what we have now. Good luck to Jason and his family

It's amazing the bond that some of the musicians have with each other even though they haven't spent much time around each other. Definitely a brotherhood. It was a beautiful moment that David Edward met Jason and it'll be an even greater moment to know that he's taken care of longer from this. My thoughts are with Jason and the family at this time.

But here when Edward was doing his slap funk thing and the tapping with, that "humbleness" n kid like frustration came out in him. Who(that didn't know) would think back when Edward had jus blistered that arrangement some 10yrs prior in front of 18,000 screaming fans on the Live w/o A Net VHS/DVD concert! It now is among one of the most Reaction videos out there. He jus tore it up for some 13+ minutes! Way to go Ed and way to go Jason! Two giant guitar players. Eddie did something similar with Dimebag. Dime's interred with Eddies yellow/black FrankenStrat. for all time, a gift from one master to another. I believe it was used on Van Halen II studio album and the following supporting tour
Damn! I just got recommended this video and my mouth just dropped opened. I have this same guitar, same color, binding, and tuners, with the number 231. It doesn't have the Patent Applied (it has Eddie's stamped though) For because I found out from Peavey in an e-mail the stamper was broken and they had to push them out. And the crazy thing is I bought it second hand for $650.00 (no it wasn't hot🤣) and it plays like a dream. This made my day👍

Eddie was the greatest of all time and a wonderful human being..
Eddie knew great talent and was generous to other guitarists. Can’t help but remember the sad story of Dimebag asking if Eddie could get him a copy of the bumblebee Frankenstrat, but soon after Dimebag was murdered on stage. Eddie came to the memorial with the original bumblebee and had them put that in the casket because “he was an original and he deserved the original.”

Funny a couple years ago I brought an EVH Ernie Ball Music Man guitar to Norms to see if they a wanted to buy it . I was surprised about how little they cared about this guitar and find it interesting that now after ed has passed, They have some interest in EVH ....
basically the same thing as the Peavey HP special (once eddie left peavey) fucking killer guitars wish I never sold mine.

This is a real beauty of a guitar! I don't know why, but the Peavey Wolfgangs look way more classy, than the Fender ones. Only my opinion!
Thank God everyone can see the genuine humanity displayed by Eddie van Halen as a person in this video . Sometimes I think we all get caught up in the juicy ,trashy headlines of the modern day and judge high profile people wrongly , me included . If everyone did just one gesture like this I'm sure the world would be better for it . I personally now think of Eddie not only as one of the great guitar innovators but also a kind man to those that need something nice in there life after suffering this terrible affliction. This young man should not have to pay for his care in a country as wealthy as America. Shame on the corporate business model.
