- With their ever-growing popularity, we ask the big questions and take a look at the Acoustasonic range from Fender. We want to hear from you so let us know your thoughts and whether you, like Adam, use one yourself!
The American Acoustasonic Jazzmaster is the most versatile instrument I ever played. I don’t need to carry batteries around. I can play for more than 4 hours in a row. The tonality is superb whether direct into PA or via amp. For recording I use basically exclusively the Fender Princeton Reverb although at certain higher frequencies it can reach the limit there. I truly believe Leo would be proud!
I thought it would be a very “gimmicky” type sound. It’s not! The sound is amazing!
Great vid!!
Very enjoyable. Perhaps one day.....
I used to gig the original American Acoustasonic Telecaster back in 2019. Ended up replacing it with an OM-sized acoustic guitar. Would not go back :)
Four reasons I moved on from mine:
- I found the string tension to be too high for me (even after switching to lighter gauge strings) … much higher than the string tension on my acoustic guitar
- Lots of noise problems with parts vibrating themselves loose. No amount of tightening stopped it recurring.
- Sound lacked resonance for playing in small venues, and for being the only instrument in a two-person band.
- The neck dried out my hands when playing. I would have recoated mine if I’d kept it.
I still think they’re a cool idea, especially if you’re looking for a recording instrument or that slick recorded-style sound in a pro band setup. And, as Adam says in the video, they’re a damn sight more robust than an acoustic for taking out to gigs. (Being able to fit strap-locks is a big plus too. I wish my acoustic would take strap-locks.)
Just didn’t suit me in the end.
Love my American Jazzmaster that I bought from A Strings. Great for recording as no mic set up needed 🤘😍
I had a mess with all the models yesterday and one of the highway series yesterday. I was interested in one for sonic variation in an acoustic duo set up but after an hour I realized it just wasn’t for me. The modeling sounds were too subtle and the variations not interesting enough. I also really fely they could benefit from an onboard eq like acoustics have. I’d have to further shape the sound of these live with a pre-amp or something and at this price I just couldn’t justify it. The highway was really nice but again, price not justifiable. In the end I’m going with an epiphone j200 ec studio with a boss pre-amp. Much more useful at half the price.
I find this series interesting, but being a recording artist only, cannot see where I would use it. I too have Taylor, a nylon string (classical guitar) and far too many electrics. I assume that the Player series’s price is far lower than the American version, and made in Mexico? I will look into this, and perhaps get one for knocking around the house. Nice demo btw.
I've been told I can't talk about guitars, esp the one from this company that is a custom one ;) lol The "bank manager" says NO!!!
Would I trade my 12 string in for one? Maybe! I would have to play one, and see. They sound great! Which one would I have? Maybe the one at the end of the video, made famous by Francis Rossi! He actually plays one in a video I saw.
Epiphone Les Paul >>> Gibson Les Paul is like Player Acoustasonic >>> American Acoustasonic.
