  • How do you keep your invention ideas safe? How do you prevent others from stealing your invention idea? How do you prevent your patent rights from being lost or stolen? This video explains what you need to do to keep your invention ideas safe when talking and partnering with others and while developing your invention idea into a product or business. I also discuss the reality of how likely it is to have ideas and inventions stolen and how this impacts who you talk with and how you share your invention idea with. #patent #patents #patentstrategy #patentlaw #intellectualpropertylaw #inventortutorial #inventions #startup #startups #startupcompany #startupbusiness #startupadvice #startupguide #startuptips #startuptalks

Love the story about the corset springs. It's such a memorable example. Nice video!

Thanks! I read that case way back in law school and have been using it as an example ever since. You’re the best!

Glad it was helpful. What happened? Did you make public disclosures, uses or offers for sale before filing a patent application?

Hi Patents Demystified, I was wondering if there are case law hornbooks people could read to get a fundamental understanding of patent law. I'm preparing for patent bar but did not take patent course in law school.

You definitely don’t want a hornbook or some book that you would use in law school. Get some materials that are specific to the Patent Bar - otherwise you are going to have a tough time. The patent bar is all about the specifics of the MPEP and very little on actual law. I used PatBar.com, but there are lots of options like PLI and the like.

@@PatentsDemystified I have PLI, question bank helps a lot. I enjoy reading hornbooks even though they don't really help on exams. But I'm wondering what cases your clients would be interested to read.

I give all my clients a copy of my book that I reference frequently as we are working together, but my clients never read cases - they hire me to know the case law and they don’t want to waste their time on that.

Hey! I’ve been following your videos and I am fully set on becoming a patent attorney. I am fresh out of High School I’ve been doing some research and found that the college I am planning on attending in the spring, is not accredited by the abet website, should i consider transferring or apply to another college nearby that i found is accredited by abet? Thank you so much!

That's awesome and thanks for watching! Being a patent attorney is great and I think you'll love it.
It depends on what degree you are getting. Computer Science degrees for Category A require accreditation by the Computer Science
Accreditation Commission (CSAC) of the Computing Sciences Accreditation Board (CSAB), or by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET), but the other degrees in Category A only require a degree from an accredited United States college or university. www.uspto.gov/sites/default/files/documents/OED_GRB.pdf
You might consider contacting the OED at the USPTO and they might be able to give you some clarification. Even if you don't automatically qualify under Category A, you might still be able to under Category B or C without having to transfer or go to another school.
