- This video shows what happens when you cheat Happy Lucky Lottery (as well as winning it) in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door for Nintendo Switch.

Believe it or not, the remake allows you to change your clock forward to win the grand prize easier and THEN change it back without EVER having Lucky call you out for cheating. Just move the date 1 day at a time with every lottery check and when you win the grand prize, while Mario holds the grand prize above him, change your clock back to your original time so you get a new ticket for free and you don’t get called out for cheating. It’s not possible in the original as you HAVE to turn the game off to change the clock.
Good to know... time to rob lucky blind.
tbf, in the way it was rigged, this is basically mandatory to actually win the grand prize in less than a year...
Start with the day 335 days in the future. Guaranteed you will get all of the prizes quickly.
How about just not cheating? Don't risk messing up your game or your Switch.

Interesting thing if you change the date mid dialogue before he gives you the next ticket, you dont get caught cheating and he never questions you. Boooooyaaaaa mid dialogue. This only works in the switch version for some reason.
The reason it only works on switch is because you had to save and quit the game to change it in the GC version, thus saving the clock data as a specific value and then reloading it checks to see if the new clock value is lower than the previous load. The Switch allows you to suspend gameplay to change settings, so i'm sure it has to do with how the time clock data is saved and stored and then called upon the next time you load the game vs when/how the data is stored and called upon while the game is still running. My guess is they probably didn't account for game suspension so it still uses the GC way of when it grabs and stores the time data and when it exactly it recalls it.
I feel like Lucky is such a nice guy, he makes sure even if you don’t win you’ll still get something, so seeing him tell you how your cheating upset Toadette as he was very distraught by it, makes this punishment feel deserved even if you don’t like the lottery
The best part of this is that this bob-omb calls players out on cheating... while the game code reveals that he's actively scamming us. Hypocrite much?

It’s not really a scam considering you still get a prize even if you lose, and you can use the same card every day, but I’m not exactly sure how the code works outside of it being time based

@@anthonyoliver418basically the longer your save file time since creation is, the higher the chances of winning one of the prizes. it takes a really really long time to hit the grand prize which is what you actually want though. if you search up a video about this here on UA-cam the consensus is that it takes almost a year to guarantee your ticket winning the prize
@@anthonyoliver418I feel its meant to make Lucky unpredictable. It says its a scammer, but Lucky made sure you get something and actually felt guilt and shame for Toadette not able to get anything because of the player’s cheat.
Lucky actually cares despite being known as the “scammer”.

I was so worried that he was going to blow up and delete your game like with what Gruntilda did in Banjo kazooie if you entered three illegal cheat codes.
Knowing Nintendo I'm surprised that they didn't do an anti cheat feature hidden inside the games code.

Imagine if you did win the Lucky Day badge from the Happy Lucky Lottery after you get the contact lens and BEFORE starting chapter 2.... The rest of your playthrough will be smooth sailing (assuming you stack a couple of pretty lucky badges)

It's funny that when he threatens to end the game, the other NPCs around them don't react; only Mario and his partner
So what happens if he does end the game after you do this again for the second time you go back a day?
He never does it. It’s what you call a fake out. He just makes you swear not to do it again then after you swear, you have to pay 500 coins to start the lottery drawing again the next day.

I didn't even know of all this dialogue and these animations. I almost won never anything in the lottery except for Mushrooms as consolation prizes. Only once the last cipher matched the winning number and I got something else but I don't remember what it was.
The game is rigged to give you nothing for months at a time. Hell, the grand prize doesn't even become an option to win until 335 days have passed. Hence why you have to game the system.
