    Congratulations for putting this out there. In these times we are all facing, I needed this a refresher because I am trying to build a thermoelectric generator out of cheap materials. I need to understand the difference between these types of currents very well, before I invest time in engineering the right shapes of the thermocouples.

    In diffusion current case, would the electron also move from high concentration region to low concentration? also what is the effect of the electric field in this case? does electric field has an impact on the diffusion aspect? similarly, what is effect of the temperature for the diffusion case?

    Thanks for explaining so well. Is that "e" in the I= neAVd stand for electon?. If it stands for any charge then just put "q" to be consistent with rest of the equations.

    Why there is negative sign in diffusion current density due to holes?

      If we recall that the concentration gradient is negative (going from high to low concentrations with respect to change in length) and the charge of holes is positive, then multiplying these two terms will cause the diffusion current for holes to be negative. For electron diffusion current, the charge “q” is negative, so multiplying this negative with the negative concentration gradient will result in a positive diffusion current for electrons.
