As an Englishman I have to say that Chappell is the best pundit and I've been waiting for this video. And the future of test cricket needs an exciting and thrilling Ashes series this year otherwise the flood of franchise cricket will totally take over.
Ian's comments about why a captain is commenting on how he wants a pitch prepared is a great point. Virat Kohli as captain was known not to just tell curators publicly thru interviews & pressers how he wanted pitches prepared but also would speak to the curators himself & tell them how he wanted the pitch & that was on tours away from India. He was known to demand pitches to be prepared in Australia a certain way or they weren't gunna play so I'd imagine Virat did it in every other country as well. I love Chapelli's brutal honesty, SOK is pretty brutal too but the comments that Jack Leach & Moeen Ali can't bowl (against Australia) is a stinger & u watch those two comments be in the pommy papers 2moz but he's not bullshiting

The scheduling is due to franchise cricket. July and August are the prime summer months in the UK and when the kids are off school. The ECB has now set-aside that window for "The Hundred" and unfortunately Test cricket must suffer, even the Ashes.
Yeah, same with BBL here. We used to have a nice Test Series b/w Nov-early Jan, followed by an ODI tri series. But BBL is filling more of the void so that our international summers are dwindling. I like long tours, playing county/state sides, a decent contingent of limited overs games and full 5-6 Test series. With all the countries needing to face each other twice and accomodating the various franchises (especially bloody IPL) those old cricket summers are gone for good.

They won’t average 35 combined. They talked about Warner being in nick. In his last 15 innings he’s scored less that 1000 runs and in his last 17 innings he’s only passed 50 once. And that was his MCG 200 vs SA. His average in that time is about 26 compared to his career average of 45, yes he got 43 in the first innings on a tough pitch but then I innings 2 he got a duck to a guy going round the wicket. In 2019 Broad stitched him up 7 times out of 10 going round the wicket and Warner averaged 9.5. So no khawaja and Warner won’t pose any threat to England. In spite of them saying Warner keeps you up at night, the real danger in there side is the middle order. From Labuchange to Carey with Smith, Head and Green in between. They can all play. But Warner and Khawaja ain’t a problem at all.
