Best issue of The Gen yet! Great (and little seen) Typhoon footage from the Normandy breakout and Falaise pocket. Thanks for all your hard work to restore and share this video.
When researching Luftwaffe issues, it's common to read that German pilots flew until they became casualties. This is certainly true. However, this truism also applied to RAF and Commonwealth pilots and aircrew. Especially the officer corps. Pickard, Gibson, etc. Eventually the odds of survival caught up with most of them in the form of Flak, fighters, and mechanical failure. I salute them from afar and across the sea of time.
I read elsewhere that for accurate aiming of the rockets you had to ensure zero side slip. So, to get all four pairs into a curving railway with the aircraft in a continuous turn was really impressive shooting.
💪 🇺🇸 👍& 💪 🇬🇧 👍"This is only the end of the beginning."- Prime Minister Churchill " At the end of the movie the narrator says, 'The march on Berlin has begun." That was a really cool looking monument that spared destruction shown at the end. Monuments should be left intact as they exemplify and embody a people's sprit in their time. That in itself is why they are monumental and should be left to be a testimony of a people till the end of this age and beyond.
There is an interesting contemporary commentary at 2.35 when the voice over says..." officers and men of the self termed 'Independent Air Force' met together as the first Mosquito intruder outfit.." Is this a reference to 2TAF ? Is it a reference to the three squadrons that took part in the Amiens Raid - 487 RNZAF and 467 RAAF and 21 - that made up the Operation ?
I would like to voice my criticism about the bugs on the camera. How are we supposed to enjoy the movie with obvious lapses of housekeeping. I would think that between battles, maintenance personnel would keep up.
Propaganda...it is ubiquitous! It was NOT the sole property of Heir Goebbels. -@11:08 the "shield of the RAF" kept 1 Million men in Normandy safe. -Charles de Gaulle told the world that the French kicked the Germans out of France. -After the Battle of the Buldge, "Monty" claimed credit for the win! 🤯😱 -Oh well, us Yanks did it, & so did Stalin...

I have the greatest respect for those servicemen for what they accomplished.

We see so many videos of the Battle of Britain and the strategic bombing of Germany that it's good to see more of the tactical air forces.
Gp Capt Pickard. What a man.

Imagine been in those towns and looking up and see those planes at that height?!

Good question. My understanding was that independent referred to the Mosquito units assigned to the Intruder Force. Could be wrong.
The scene at 8.59 looks a bit dodgy.....
what version of home on the range was that?
Wow.
Ah yes, the Typhoon. Got to play the Typhoon in “European Air War” the pc game.
Theres a guy at 1:08 walking down the street, he must of pooped himself with these planes scraping their hulls on the rooftops.
Spiffing good show against the Hun. Good job boys.
Yes, and home in time for tea and medals.
Narrated by Mr Chumly-Warner.
Bummer command looking for rear gunners
Centralised messing, how frightful,
