I doubt that's what he meant, more like we weren't expecting this serious situation in the middle of winter, I may be wrong, but given the circumstances I'm not surprised they were caught off guard!.
@@tangomike3681 It was a poor way to have worded that. We couldn’t ever have been prepared for what hit us. We do pretty well with wildfires, but when hundreds of structures are burning in hurricane force winds…
This time the arson (most wildfires are accidental or intentional human caused) occurred in the winter. Usually summer is picked for obvious reasons. The wind didn't help either. It makes sense they weren't prepared for the situation they got. Important to curb the anti rich schadenfreude and realize the real rich will be fine and these were upper or upper middle class people and poor people too who have had their homes and purchasing power destroyed. I feel solidarity with all Americans in times like this.
I live in Los Angeles and I’ve read the comments. I would like to clear up some misunderstandings. We weren’t prepared because this is a unique situation. The winds are insane. We are prepared to fight wildfires. When the cities themselves start burning, we don’t have the water pressure to fight on the ground. Also, the 100 mph winds prevented air support. Essentially all the subsequent fires following the Palisades fire started upwind. I would be suspicious but I am south of the fires and the wind took down the power lines and they were sparking in my neighbor’s yard. Whatever the causes (which all do seem suspicious) the fires have been popping up and spreading faster than I’ve ever seen fires spread, in disparate places. I have another place outside Yosemite. CalFire has saved it numerous times. I don’t have explanations for how this has happened but I do not blame our first responders for being overwhelmed.
Both of you young men do a fantastic job at the current news from around the world. I really appreciate your dedication to fact based news, not politically slanted. I would inject more in my comments, but I'm definitely not as dedicated as you two gentlemen. My political views sometimes come out just naturally. I must add but fact based. Long live the LSA!
Your firefighter friend is correct, but you're incorrectly interpreting what he means. Human causes also includes sparks from power lines, infrastructure, and anything else made by man. If a forest fire is started because a car muffler got hot and lit some grass on fire that is a human caused fire.
LA cut the fire department budget by $17.6 million last year. The mayor had requested a $23 million cut to prioritize the homelessness issue, but the city council amended the proposed budget.
The problem has been that there is no selective logging to thin the forests, they don't remove deadfall, they haven't been setting controlled burns, they allow vegetation close to houses, and a lot of other issues like non native plants that spread fire further. If they had cleaned up the forests they would not be having as many issues.
It’s not that simple. These aren’t forest areas either. Consider the month we are in. January. It’s supposed to be wet season, and certainly should not be fire season. CA typically has dry with high winds in October. The population density in hill areas has nothing to do with forests or vegetation. Hot embers can travel in high winds. Look at Lahaina, HI as analog.
I never comment but have seen all the major bushfires in Australia over the last sixty years as covered by our Oz media organisations. This live commentary is the best and most informative I have ever seen. Kick arse you two young fellas, you are both an absolute credit to your sorry nation.
Did youtube try to take this down? Im glad its up either way, this was a great stream from the fellas tonight. @theenforcer @enforcermatt you guys made some great points and I'm glad you report the news the way you guys do. 💯
With Los Angeles facing one of its worst disasters in history, it’s incredible to witness the bravery of firefighters and the National Guard stepping in. Will they be able to stop it before more lives are lost? What do you think will happen next?
Fwiw, I agree with The Enforcer regarding the people saying that "Americans don't matter" and such. It is quite disheartening. It is fine to have gripes with the California government, but the callous disregard for the lives of people living there is just mind numbing. The reason that Americans are critical of the government when disasters happen is because we feel that the government does not care about the lives of citizens as much as we do. To say they don't matter is just disgusting.
2:10:15 Brother I couldn't agree more. The fact that this isnt on everyones mind has been bugging me too. Nobody i work with or my family even knew this was happening. I'm a true fan and America needs to be covered as well keep it up the ones who care will always be around

Dear Enforcer Andrew, are you preparing for your Presidential speech? I have never ever heard you more saying „America“ in such a short time than today! 🤣🤣❤️❤️ Greetings from Europe! We care to and wish you all the best! ❤️🔥 by the way, thanks for the rabbit hole of the Chicago fire and the city plan, that was very interesting!

Maybe they lacked the experience and knowledge to prevent this one, but they should be able to prevent the next one. There were two main problems: an abundance of very dry plant material due to drought conditions; and very high winds. The wind cannot be mitigated, but it is not particularly unusual and can be somewhat predicted. The dry plant matter, on the other hand, can be collected and prevented from becoming a fire hazard -- they could literally douse it with sea water to keep it damp if they had to. There can be thresholds for drought conditions that trigger a lottery system for plant matter removal, so the greater the severity of drought and thus fire risk, the more preventative mitigation efforts would be undertaken and, importantly, the more preventative mitigation efforts would have already been undertaken by the time those severe conditions existed.
I can't help thinking after hearing the damages figure that they are trying to profit off this fire. Fill the vacancy of the missing $28B from the budget.
To anyone in LA who wants to move somewhere less likely to have this happen again, we're beginning to have a building boom in the Shenandoah valley so. We have a considerable yearly rainfall (compared to the desert of southern California) and most things are cheaper here plus cannabis is legal here too! There are plenty of jobs here and a much easier cost of living compared to anything on the west coast!
I still have hurricane insurance in Florida but it went from 800.00 a year to 3700.00, but like the Enforcer said I think they did cancel some people that live near the ocean. I feel bad for the people in California because they were probably paying insurance for years and then they get cancelled right before they need it.
Hello Guys i can't say it's good , with all these fires going on in the United States of America it's a grey day .😢Hope you're better Enforcer and hi Enforcer Matt. What is the news today 😢😢xx❤❤
Because most of those homes were built long before your grandparents were born...Fires that spread unfettered were rare, and they had learned from the other great fires in the time to put prevent them from spreading freely. That and it's a FRICKING EARTHQUAKE ZONE and STONE transfers kinetic energy better than wood. See: Japan still having wooden buildings standing after decades of Earthquakes but stone/concrete buildings have keen knocked over.
Im really gutted for the people affected by the fire, its very unusual for wildfires to happen in the winter, do we know if it has been started by bad actors (pardon the pun with it being Hollywood) or accidentally ignited somehow? Either way my prayers are with the people of LA.
For all the silly commenters, If you clear all the overgrowth from the hills then you can worry about Erosion and land slips and mud slides. Maybe don’t build in the bush area if worried about bushfires burning stuff down.

Hey, I like you guys cause you cover a good niche of what matters and provide good clean perspective, but I think the Enforcer's lately been really hamming it up with the big descriptive words. The presentation is starting to feel padded out, and is developing a bit of a strange vibe because of it. English isn't my first language, so I'd not like to presume. Not that I don't understand any part of the text, I do fully. I'm just pretty sure that a fair few of those words aren't grammatically correct, or aren't being used correctly according to their meanings in some cases. So all I'm saying is I miss the more down to earth Enforcer who was a bit more conservative with his wording and verbosity, to the point that in this case I lost patience and stopped listening about 20 minutes in.
When all the organized selfish powers are checked and balanced no one special interest can impose its interests on the general welfare. Therefore, what the Enforcer says about balance in the economy can only be achieved when that principle is observed in formal checks and balances. What is that balance? It is 1) Established industry with fair competition from entrepreneurial ventures 2) Monopoly control: fair regulation and business ground rules with citizen-consumer/environmental protection 3) Fair progressive taxes that recognizes the utility value of absolute assets and earnings which re-invests into the national infrastructure 4) A basic social safety net of housing, healthcare and education whose level grows with national productivity and wealth. The above balanced economy can happen if: 1) We check and balance all unaccountable powers so that inclusive compromise governance can happen 2) We have free, fair elections; majority rule, minorities protected for peaceful transitions of power 3) Equal application of fair law and equitable economic policy for justice 4) Use of evidence-based, self-correcting science, journalism and education for driving public policy and truth.
