I bought this recently after watching your HX99G review and knowing this would have similar performance. I bought it for emulation but have ended up testing PC games on it. I’ve not got to 1440p gaming tests (apart from 1 game) but nice to know it’s capable of doing it on plenty of them. I’m currently testing it on a 1080p TV against my more powerful laptop. Having fun. Personally I like that it’s still small. It’s like having a console IMO and it’s miles smaller than have a tower PC, so I can move it around which is what I wanted. Very happy with it.

@@laudable4608 i don’t know it really depends on what you want. I bought it more for emulation (including PS3) so wanted to make sure it was powerful enough but I have ended up playing PC games. You’d have to account for how many PC games you already own and how many PS4 games you have in your library which u can play on PS5. This costs more than a PS5 but it is a PC which has its pro & cons. PS5 is dedicated to just gaming so no issues with windows (don’t get me started on that 🤣). Also although u can play most modern games with a controller sometimes there is issues on PC although can usually be sorted especially if u have Steam. I also think about how my PS3 games aren’t playable on PS5 so it once my console bites the dust they are gone, which is why i emulate them now. Im also not sure whether games would perform better on this or a PS5 (something ill have to check) but if u upgrade to a newer one in the future you’ll be able to play all those games on your new PC and probably at better frame rates and resolutions. Oh and PS5 can play games at 4K, not something i think this would be able to do very well. I’ll mostly be playing at 1080p maybe 1440p sometimes.

@@laudable4608 just thought of something else. If you do use a controller Xbox remotes work a lot better than PS4 remotes and from what I’m told PS5 remotes too. Something to consider. Personally I do use a PS4 controller for emulating PS games but some games are set up for Xbox controllers so the button prompts will match the Xbox. Personally I bought an 8bitDo controller as it has a Wi-Fi and charger stand. Works great.

Hey Russ, thanks for the review ! Just for the DDR5 4800 : it's not because of the dual channel that it is 4800 instead of 2400. Rather it's because DDR means "Double Data Rate", so it's always been like that since DDR1 where DDR400 was running at 200 MHz :)

And R2D2 is not a game, it's a robotic space buddy that makes guinea pig noises. 😮

Soon, however, the team that developed Gollum will be releasing a standalone R2D2 game where you control R2D2, and you have to eat grubs and practice janky "stealth" mechanics and raise birds, etc... All the stuff that robots and Gollums do.

We are so close too maybe within the next generation of mobile AMD graphics it'll be a reality. Also if you're already going to put your own storage in one anyway look at the old version of this with the ryzen 9. The barebones kit on that one goes for like $500 somewhat frequently now.

@@GhostAcez Yeah I could of elaborated a little. 4K as the 8th gen stuff/some of the easier to run 9th gen. Like Forza Horizon and Doom. It'll be quite some time until integrated graphics are anywhere near the performance of the 6600m. I might scoop the hx90g that your talking about in a few months but I already have a decent desktop, gaming laptop, and Steam Deck so I already have a decent amount of stuff lol it would just be nice to have something dedicated for the living room. It would be nice to use the iGPU in everyday use (browser, email) and the RX 6600m for gaming. 2:34 actually it isn't because its dual channel. Its because its DDR ram. Dual channel just increase the throughput in a nut shell, also means there's at least 2 sticks of ram.
The very nature of DDR ram means its doubled, ddr means DoubleDataRate so sometimes it shows the true speed before doubling it, more then not it shows it doubled though.

Hey Russ, wondering if you can add in BG3 in your PC game testing for things moving forward. I know you like to standardize it so not sure if that's a change you can make. Looking to pick up one of these and wanting to get a decent experience in that game specifically. Also when doing comparisons to these devices I would love and find it really cool to see a comparison to a same price or less full size PC with same or better specs, and same with laptop. That way your showing whether there is a full size pc on the market for less or same that does same thing, same with laptop. To really compare whether that price point for those specs are really worth it just to get a smaller form factor. Or vice versa if its a great deal because its so much cheaper for those specs at that price point vs the other form factors.

For emulation, most of the struggling games (like the one that shall not be named) were limited by the CPU. That being said, the 7735HS sadly is only a last gen (Zen 3+) refresh instead of being Zen 4 like a 7840. In Cinebench R23 the 7840HS is roughly 15% faster in single core and 25% faster in multi-core vs the 7735HS.
The interesting thing is, that the 7840HS is faster than a desktop Zen 3 5800X in C23 at roughly half the TDP.
I find it quite powerful for a multi purpose device. You can do far worse without actually saving any money. If you want high end performance, you wouldn't got for a small form factor PC like this. For office work it's overpowered, but so are the MacBook Pros my work place has been spending 4000 Euros a pop for... *cough* secretary work on a 4k laptop... *cough*
As an IT admin, I would prefer more serviceable devices, that I can easily repair, but sadly even the PCs and Mini PCs we have contracts for (getting them quite a bit cheaper) are OEM workstations that don't use standard parts for parts like mainboards or PSUs.

Video editing will require both a fast multi-core CPU and GPU power to work well, I think this will still be fine for 1080p editing but I would wager that I can't really hold up well for 4K video editing. This CPU came out earlier this year but it's really just a repurposed version of last gen's AMD CPUs. It'll definitely be great for gaming, but I think the CPU will be bottlenecked in other uses.

Sucks that it's a 7735, AMD is using some shady naming but it's actually a last gen CPU.
The rx6600 is also last gen too.
This would be fine if it was really cheap, but it's really not, you're better off buying something from the new but old stock section, it would be cheaper

Sorry if it's been asked before, but price aside- what is the best overall mini-pc? I keep finding ones w/ WiFi issues, overheating, subpar performance, etc. I care a lot about maximizing open space, so I'm willing to pay a premium for a mini-pc vs. a full sized tower (I currently own the giant fucking Alienware Area 51 R2)

This is a great little pc for 1080p gaming, I use mine for casual gaming on my tv at 1080p 60fps works great its better than I thought it was going to be, I've had no issues so far. I've not had any wifi issues and zero crashes, on windows 10, best mini pc imo is the miniforum um780xtx due to it's egpu potential..

I sent my son this mini pc for college to use in his dorm for his bday.. He called me in a rage telling me how horrible this pc is. Its over heating! Its crashing! i've never seen anything like it. I am really upset! Im trying to play a game with my friend and its so hot you could cook eggs on it! I asked him if the cooling was blocked? He said well I put it up on this little block will that make it better? He sent me a pic and I had to find some pics on how the thermals worked.. turns out the fans are on the TOP, and blow out the side.. Guess which way he had his pc sitting on the desk? UPSIDE DOWN so the fans couldn't get any air.... 😅 Kids these days, I tell ya. Says its great now, pretty amazing how small and powerful it is. And quiet! Saves so much space from the giant desktops of old.
