Beautiful! I really enjoy your tutorials, you give a lot of good hints and explain the steps very clearly. I would love to see how you eventually used these. I'm wondering if you add some pieces of plain black clay in the mold here and there if it would mimic those larger black areas in the actual stone.
Beautiful effect! Very clever way to achieve the faux stone finish. I really love the way you go all in with your hands, mess or no mess! The "oops, it went flying" made me smile. I always look forward to the "oops" in your videos, I seem to say it a lot while I'm working on projects, nice to know I'm not the only one!
I really like this & just ordered black mica powder to do it. Would enjoy seeing what you did with it. Will be watching the cabochon bezel setting video.
I am absolutely in love with this technique. Have you used other colors? I would love to see them. Getting ready to try it myself! Thank you for all you share!!!!!
I have used other colors with this technique. Here are some examples. www.jessamatutorials.com/faux-turquoise.html www.etsy.com/au/listing/582194143/faux-gold-veined-quartz-jade-video?ref=shop_home_active_2&crt=1 www.etsy.com/au/listing/683979832/faux-black-dragon-vein-agate-white?ref=shop_home_active_47 www.etsy.com/au/listing/657193435/faux-turquoise-coral-polymer-clay?ref=shop_home_active_5
Beautiful! I'm wondering how I might do this if I'm working on a figure sculpture instead of a rock shape? To make it look like the figure it made of marble? How could i add these little black chunks without messing up the sculpting I've done?
Absolutely Love and Admire your work, Samantha. Basically every single time. Many, mány thanks, for showing how to; soooó specifically. You've inspired me humongusly (as many others, ofcoursche, - both ways, Hoping!) Looking forward 2; one day... , do simular things in my own style in a different language. Dutch... as its the only option left 4 me now. Or No language,,, as my other favorite languages; Can't speak 'm. Not well enough. Hope 2 show you 1day. NaMasTheé to you Samantha from Jessema, all of it?!? Amazin artist, good support, must be?! lovely cat & very far away 😘
This is stunning I have black Indian ink would this work if not would you have any suggestions I could use black ink for I also have translucent clay Thank you
Wonderful technique as always, Samantha. I have real problems with sanding because of hand issues and have found those sanding papers preferable to anything else I've tried. You mentioned cleaning those. How do you do that? Thanks!
I dump them in water with some washing up liquid and use a toothbrush to rub the clay dust out of them. Then I let them dry and I can use them again. :D
This is a fascinating technique. Would embossing powder work as well as mica powder. Also this stone looks a lot like lace agate. The stone I have has several colors in it. I'm look forward to trying this technique with those colors of mica powder and paints.
Beautiful work. I was wondering what type of paint you are using. Most acrylic paint does not go to powder when you scrape it but comes up in bigger chunks.
It's easier for me to just sand it instead of fussing with it before baking. You can try using 99% alcohol to wipe across the cabochons before baking them. That will remove some of the paint and mica. You'll still need to sand though.
Hi Jessica...I love this project...I cannot hear all 3 varnishing techniques you mention at the end however...you say 1. Renaissance wax (and please let us know where we can buy this), 2. Liquid Clay (please let us know not just where we can buy this but do you have a tutorial on how to do it?) & the last thing you mention I cannot understand at all...so please let me know what it is, where to buy it and how to do it...Thanks so much Jessica! Karen

HI Samantha, I am a very new clayer, and I looove your site and channel. Quick question, which may be silly ... for the spiderweb jasper, why do you use both black mica AND paint? Would it work with just paint? (I don't mean the flecks of paint you include, I do understand that you do that to add sections of solid black.) Rather, when you roll the chips in the black paint with the skewers, is that not enough to encase the chips? Or is the mica just to add shine/depth? Many many thanks!!!
The mica added a sparkle to the stone, but caused the pieces of clay to not stick together. I added the paint to help the pieces stick together and to create a thicker vein of black. :D
Dear Samantha, first I would like to thank you for sharing with us this lovely video. Secondly, I have two questions regarding polishing polymer clay pieces.. What the name of the green sheet that you are using in this video? Is this a normal sandpaper or what? What about its grits degree? And I want to know what is the material of your dremel wheel ? Is it cotton thread? Or what is its material exactly? I hope you see my comment and help me 💕
I sell the sandpaper here. All the information is in the listing. www.etsy.com/au/listing/660752042/sanding-papers-full-6-piece-set?ga_search_query=sandpaper&ref=shop_items_search_1&frs=1 The dremel wheel is made up of felt.
hi Samantha, I do love your tutorials. You often tell us that you go from a 400 grit sanding paper up to an 8000, could you give us some idea of what increments your papers are divided into. Thanks.
Great video. Wau,- you are a great artist. You need to look at your shutter speed of your camera in relation to your light source (neon light?), because you have flicker on you video. Not bad, but I dont like to look at it. Only because your video is so interesting I saw it all.....
Yes. You can. However it will end up with more marks at the end of the baking process than if it was out of the mold due to air pockets trapped in the mold.
Is there a reason for not using wet and dry sanding paper or sanding with your Dremel. Then damp sanding papers wouldn't clog up, it would also save you time and elbow grease. I do love the end result, it was worth all your hard work. Thanks. Howelite would be awesome.
I do use the wet\dry sand paper from time to time, but I find that they remove a lot more clay than the polishing papers and the polishing papers have a shinier finish one you've used them.
The sanding papers don't take off as much clay and trap any dust. If you want to avoid dust, sanding with wet\dry sandpapers in water will work. Use the sanding papers after that to get the shine.
Wouldn't it be easy and you'd use less if you used scrap clay to make the form of the cabochons, roll your spider web into a cane, cut off slices to make a sheet then cut our the shape you need then cover the scrap clay with the sheet? I feel you'd use less of it and it would still look at good.
I love this process! Glad you're using a Dremel to buff. I love seeing how shiny I can make my clay! Thank you for sharing!
How clever you are to imagine a process to imitate stones ... Wonderful Samantha !!
Beautiful! I really enjoy your tutorials, you give a lot of good hints and explain the steps very clearly. I would love to see how you eventually used these. What a fun and beautiful project.
It does look like fun, the inclusion of the dried paint is new to me, I’ll definitely be trying this out soon! Thank you Samantha!
All I can say is Wow and Amazing !

This technique works really well with turquoise colored clay and gold mica to make gold veined turquoise cabochons
Sounds interesting. What color paint do you add?
Great job, very beautiful...I love them!!!
Splendide effect, thank you very much ♥♥♥
Gorgeous, thank you
😮😮😘 c'est magnifique, comme toujours....merci pour le partage ⚘😘⚘
I would love to see a White Howlite tutorial. :)
I think lsaw you do this w ith lapis blue clay and gold leafing. Your work it really beautiful.

This is great!
C'est vraiment magnifique 😘👍👏💋
Nice Cabochons
This is stunning I have black Indian ink would this work if not would you have any suggestions I could use black ink for I also have translucent clay Thank you
No. I don't think ink would work for this technique. You need to have paint.
Beautiful!
Maravilhoso!👏👏

You can try embossing powder. It would work, but not as well as mica powder as the grains are larger.
Thanks, I'll stick with mica powder. Embosing powder was just a thought. @@JessamaTutorials

I'm using Americana acrylic paint.
Coucou. Merci pour tous vos conseils. Pourriez vous me dire quelles couleurs choisir..je voudrais du rose comme base ? Merci
Great tutorial video! Thank you for sharing! This looks like fun! I'm subscribing to your channel also! Beautifully done! 👏👏👏 Thank you, Pam😊
Looks awesome, thanks for sharing.. question why did you not take some off before baking?

Le pones alguna crema para pulirlas con la dremel?

I'm pretty sure she says it in some other videos I'm just sorry I can't remember right off which ones they are. 🙈
The grits in the package are:
Green: 400 grit
Grey: 600 grit
Blue: 1200 grit
Pink: 4000 grit
Turquoise: 6000 grit
White: 8000 grit
You mentioned about doing this in a cane do you have tutorial for that
Yes. I do have a tutorial right here. www.jessamatutorials.com/faux-turquoise.html
Hi What type of tile do you use..looks thin?
Thank you for clear instructions! Smiles, Cindi
I used a glazed ceramic tile.
@@JessamaTutorials thank you!

Can you do a Leopard skin jasper?
Love your work and watch all your tutorials but I was wondering why you don’t sand with water anymore? Isn’t the dust bad for you?
The sanding papers don't take off as much clay and trap any dust. If you want to avoid dust, sanding with wet\dry sandpapers in water will work. Use the sanding papers after that to get the shine.
Hi , I’m struggling with the paint when I dry it on tile and scrape it it’s like plastic rather than dust what am I doing wrong ? X
Liesa Griffin same problem here.
Some paint brands are like that. Are you using the same brand as me?
Jessama Tutorials I use the Americana one I think that’s the brand
It doesn’t say which paint you use just black paint x
My little pieces do not adhere well to each other, either in a mold or squishing into a log. I had to add some liquid clay. What did i do wrong.
You need to really squish the pieces for them to hold together. You can add a little liquid clay with the powder if it's giving you a lot of trouble.
The paint that you add, is it oil based or acrylic?
I used acrylic.
❤️❤️❤️
Wouldn't it be easy and you'd use less if you used scrap clay to make the form of the cabochons, roll your spider web into a cane, cut off slices to make a sheet then cut our the shape you need then cover the scrap clay with the sheet? I feel you'd use less of it and it would still look at good.
Then you'd also have less sanding to do.
I love it also by the way
