I'm new to clay but I'm learning a lot from watching your videos. I love how you leave in your "mistakes" and show us how to correct them. So many people edit things like that out. It's helpful for me for learning and for not getting discouraged when things don't turn out quite the way I wanted them to. Thank you!
This tutorial is fascinating! You make it look so easy, but I can tell how much time and work you put into making such a high quality work of art! Thank you so much for sharing your talent with us!
Google translation : It is absolutely MAGNIFICENT !!!! I love the colors, the form, the thoroughness of your work .... well, I love everything !!! One thing I can not understand is that there are almost 900 vistes and only 122 thumbs up !!!! it seems to me that the least politeness, after watching a video is at least to put an inch! Thank you for your work and for sharing !!!!
This is one of my favorites tutes! I remember you did one like this one but with leftovers clay and it had more red, I love this one because reminds me of Vincent VanGogh!! My favorite painter 👩🎨
Just tried this technique to make some tiles for mixed media with fantastic results! Mine look kind of like oil and water mixing-stunning! Also burnished a very fine lace into some and topped with Perfect Pearls--wow!! Thank you!
I just want to tell you how grateful I am for your advice. The resin came out beautifully this time. The smear technique I have also been able to perfect thnx to you! You are absolutely awesome and I appreciate all your help. Not to forget I also love your cutters! Joanna Remson your forever patron.
Beautiful necklace, love the colors. I am very new to polymer clay but would really like to try this process. Thank you for sharing so many tutorials with us, it is very generous of you to share your time and talent.
Your design reminds me of Edvard Munch's paintings. It's amazing that your attractive necklace started out looking like play dough. It's an interesting process. I've never worked with those materials and have some questions. Do you have a video that shows the pasta machine, the oven you used and the products in the package that you used? And when you're heating the material, does it create a big odor in the house and is it safe for humans or animals to breathe or would I need to do this in a separate workshop? Do you use a safety mask when heating or working with these materials? Also, what is the estimate of how much this hobby costs for a beginner? Thank you for the lesson and information.😊
Hi. Sorry it to so long to answer. I missed your comment. Thank you so much for the compliment. I have a full beginner playlist showing off the pasta machine, oven, products and various other information. It'll answer all these questions. ua-cam.com/play/PLikI1JwM7OkpM_lrAJXeX2aJ6ZQ0ig1cP.html
Little idea since drilling straight for that distance can be a pain and since you're layering black on as a backing: cut up some thin bar stock (you can find it at hardware stores, or just use the straight bits of a wire coat hanger) and lay that between the backing and front, then press it together. You won't be able to use the cutter to cut the backing this time, but since you already have the front bit, cutting shouldn't be that hard. Once cut, give it a little twist (might be best to lube it) to make sure it can be pulled free after curing the piece.
Really beautiful effect, Samantha! Thanks so much for your thorough instructions...I am always learning so much from you, and constantly inspired. You are a fantastic teacher! I am thinking I will try this with red, blue and white for an overall purple effect. I love effects achieved by chopping up clay ... so random, painterly and gorgeous.
Patience is definitely a virtue… This was so interesting to watch. The detailed steps created a gorgeous piece of jewelry….. I always ask, How does one keep from getting their fingers from getting cut, while working with your blades? I’ve had a tough go. Can you purchase them with sturdy handles on the sides
Thank you. In regards to the blades. It takes practice not to get nicked. When I first started, I used a relatively dull blade to help me get used to it without the risk of getting cut. You can buy blades with handles. I personally find them a little cumbersome, but they do work. www.sculpey.com/products/sculpey-super-slicer-set-w-comfort-handles
WOW, What a beautiful necklace! Your tutorial is so great, thank you for sharing your great talent with us. I love your site and will be watching every video you have :-)
this was great to watch, as usual, thank you. I've seen you use your hand drill tool a few times. Sorry if I've missed this question already but where did you get your hand drill? I have a dremel type tool but sometimes I want something smaller and more controllable and slower.
Thank you so much for this tutorial, Samantha. You always explain everything so well and make it seem so simple. :-) If you have time, would you please tell me if your acuflex black beading wire, 49 strand, is .019 or .024 inch? I've been wanting to try that type of wire, but hated to buy the wrong size. Thank you again. I LOVE your tutorials! I can't wait to try this technique on a teal necklace for my daughter's birthday. :-)
Thank you for this tutorial. I love these colours and hope to be able to do this technique in different colours. I wondered, if you have textured the back, is it necessary to sand the back? I don't mind sanding, but if I can reduce the time I spend doing that, I'll have more time to make more beads! :-)
Love all your tutorials and website. I tried to go to the link provided for Linda's Arts, but it brought me to some kind of medical site. There was no items for sale. I'd be interested in purchasing some of the items you name, but can't access them. Also, Etsy requires paypal, which I will not use since my account has been compromised twice signing up with them.
Jessama, what happens if you have an uneven spot on your jewelry after you resin it? I'm sure that happens, where the resin doesn't entirely self level causing the piece to have more in one spot than another. What do you do when that happens? Do you just resand the piece?
I love your work, I was wondering if you can tell me where you purchased the foam textures used for the backs of the beads. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge with us!
I some times use Bake and Bond, but if I'm doing a smear around the edges of the bead I don't tend to use Bake and Bond as I find it makes it hard to work with the clay. It make the whole thing very slippery.
hello excellent work I am from venezuela I would like to learn how to make my jewelry, that technique with polymer clay is not baked? or dry alone? Thanks Carol.
That was Great Thank you! Oh, I heard the bird in the background is that yours or from outside? I have a Sun Conure. Yes, I know noisy lol Did I miss where you put your holes in the tiles?
I’m new to this, but I find that following tutorials we have different pasta machines. When you say to use 2nd to thinnest setting do I use the same on mine? Because mine had 9 settings and yours I believe has 7 in these videos? What if someone doesn’t say what the actual number setting is or what their machine goes to?
Hi! Great tutorials you make. I am new to making Polymer clay and you are a GREAT inspiration. I have some questions I hope you will answer. What brand of clay do you use? And for how long do you bake your products? I use Fimo, and I have a problem to get my things hard when I bake them. And the color "bleeds" on to my fingers so I have to always wash my hands when changing colors. I also wounder if you varnish all your products. If so, for what reason. And what do you use? Hop to hear for m you. Best regards fram Susan Wood ( Living in Sweden)
I like to use Kato and Premo polymer clay. The Kato is great for canes because it's a little on the hard side while Premo is great for mokume gane and sculpting because it's softer. Both are great for surface techniques and faux effects. I bake my pieces for a minimum of an hour. Most of the time it's longer than that if you add up all the multiple bakings I do. Fimo isn't my favorite mainly because it bleeds color and it's more crumbly that Kato or Premo. I like to use different gloves for each color when I use it. I don't varnish all my pieces. I have to varnish if I have something other than polymer clay in the project because the varnish will protect it. I also like to varnish when I want a certain look to a piece. For instance resin gives a glassy finish while a matte varnish will leave it with a lovely matte finish. However you don't need to varnish if you only have clay in your projects. See this page on my website to know more about varnish. www.jessamatutorials.com/sealing-polymer-clay.html I have a bunch of articles on the website that will help with questions like these. www.jessamatutorials.com/
Hi Samantha! Beautiful work 😊...I recently bought pin drill after seeing your video on drilling holes... what is the name of the black chord that you use here?
Ugh, may I ask you one more question please. What size crimps do you use for the 49 strand accuflex? The ones I have do not fit. I have to order from amazon to get mine but I couldn’t find any info on the size of crimps. It doesn’t say on the packaging either.
I use 3mm round crimps with a 1.5 hole. Here's one on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Round-Crimp-Silver-Plated-500pcs/dp/B00O1W642Q/ref=sr_1_9?ie=UTF8&qid=1526350991&sr=8-9&keywords=3mm+round+crimp

Great idea. I love this technique. It does look like a lot of fun and work. But oh so worth it. Thanks so much for the information.💜
Beautiful and simple technique...i am all over it!
Stunning! The precision necessary for such beautiful pieces is an art in and of itself. You are amazingly talented!
Beautiful work and technique!
This is so gorgeous.

Love this demo, and shared it in my bead group last night. Three of us are planning to get together to try it.
I really enjoy watching these lots to do when I can get my studio back together. Thanks so much for the informative videos.
YAAAAAAAA. Got my cutters yesterday. So ready to make this design.
Simply stunning!

I’m new at this so was wondering why you bake longer than the clay package suggests. I think mine said 15 minutes. Love your tutorials! Thank you!
Mind blown!
Loved doing this so much. Thank you for sharing.
Marvellous!🤩
Going to do right now! Thank U very much for tutorials!🤗

Beautiful!!
Very pretty Samantha!
Terrific project!
Lovely, thank you so much!
Very good tutorial.
So beautiful, thank you
Beautiful , Samantha 🌸❤️
I love this! Could you have lined the back with black then cut the shapes ?
this was great to watch, as usual, thank you. I've seen you use your hand drill tool a few times. Sorry if I've missed this question already but where did you get your hand drill? I have a dremel type tool but sometimes I want something smaller and more controllable and slower.

Thank you. I used .024 inch.
Thank you, Samantha! :-) I made a pendant using your tutorial with different colors. When the necklace is complete, I'll send you a picture. :-)
Thank you.
Beautiful~
Thank you
Sei bravissima complimenti 👏👏👏
Thank you for this tutorial. I love these colours and hope to be able to do this technique in different colours. I wondered, if you have textured the back, is it necessary to sand the back? I don't mind sanding, but if I can reduce the time I spend doing that, I'll have more time to make more beads! :-)
You don't have to sand the back if you've got a texture on the back. I like a slightly shiny texture on the back, but it looks great matte.
Jessama Tutorials thanks for the explanation. I like a texture on the back of my pendants as it stops them clinging to the skin.......!
Wow! when you say run it through the something setting what are you doing? Are you running it through a pasta maker? This is incredible!
Yes. I'm running it through the thickest setting on my pasta machine.
Great tutorial but if you rotated your cutter after each cut by a half turn you could easily get less waste clay and a more random pattern
The foam piece you are using looks like the one from Birchbox.
Unfortunately the place I did buy them isn't selling anymore. I'm trying to source another place for them, but haven't been successful just yet.
Your using Accu-Flex. Is that a stretchy cord? Sorry if it's a stupid question, I'm just a beginner.
Accu-Flex doesn't stretch, but isn't to ridged at the same time. :D
Is there a reason you didn't use a Bake and Bond product to adhere the raw clay back to the baked clay front? And... beautiful work, as usual!
Polymer clay is cured by baking at the recommend temperature on the packet. :D
That was Great Thank you! Oh, I heard the bird in the background is that yours or from outside? I have a Sun Conure. Yes, I know noisy lol Did I miss where you put your holes in the tiles?
Thank you. :D I used a pin drill to drill the holes in the tutorial.
I was wondering the same. I kept scrolling back and forth to see where I missed it. It is at 39:17 th minute
Love your tutorials! You used accuflex 49 strand wire, but what diameter? Thanks.
When did you add the holes to string them and were they drilled after baking?
I added the holes at around the 25:26 mark in the video. They were drilled after baking.
Thank you so much! Now I need to find one of those drills 🥰.
Love your tutorials. Can you tell me the length of the necklace.
Its about 18 inches long.

Mine is about 5mm thick.
Hi Samantha! Beautiful work 😊...I recently bought pin drill after seeing your video on drilling holes... what is the name of the black chord that you use here?
Accu-flex. You can buy it at www.firemountaingems.com

(1.5mm hole)
Jessama Tutorials Oh you are the best! Thank you so much!
I had problems with setting the pattern. The backing would not stick that well.
Try applying some back and bond to the back of the bead and then apply the backing.
Jessama Tutorials I also think my clay exspands in the oven. When I go to putt the backing on the cutters dont fit they are to small Weired.
I am new to the polymer world, can you plz tell me how to make glass like cobalt blue ?
I'm not quite sure what you're asking for. Do you want me to give you a color recipe or show you how to make faux glass with polymer clay?
I want the challenge to recreate true cobalt blue glass for a piece I envisioned plz 😃
