    Wonderful straight forward information, thank you for explaining it so clearly.
    I have been studying this material intensely, and am coming to understand. If you can, I have two questions.
    What is the vocal apparatus of the mind? That is to say, which part has the capability for mental speech?
    Regarding the buddhi, this part perplexes me somewhat. In English we call it discernment, but I have a sense that it is not quite a perfect translation. I know that the buddhi comes from the vigyanamaya kosha and so is tied to higher self.. How can we use this capacity to perfect ourselves? I mean, practically speaking how can I identify the buddhi in my mental experience?

    Nice spiritual and mental understanding by our sages who knew vedas and meditate on the
    Mind and it's behavior (psychology).........how and why someone acts and reacts........samkhya yog......you can also see 36 tattva system .
    Efforts of our sages and their reports on their findings should be respected and applied .....like our scientists.........
    But the puranas and Smritis shall not be trusted with history..... concept of time and politics......it's only for spiritual growth......
    They are inconsistent on the reality.....with space and time and history...........and it implies that they can go to any lengths to spread their cult and the puranas........
    It's mostly imaginative stories or the alien stories of thousands and billions of years ago........... And is not the Vedic teachings......they say it's Vedic but it's not............
    Vedas are true......the stories they say that vedas came from here and the being who brought vedas came from there are the bullshit stories told to play the games of supremacy.........
    if they are so true....then why they loose the connection with the vedas? and they can't even bring forth a human from yagna like Draupadi(proof of sanatana Dharma)......because they are so corrupted and can't even please the deity of yagna........so they spread this propoganda.......
    If it is taken other than spiritual guidance ......it's a poison to you .

    Hey tapas in the bhagwad geeta the scheme of self discovery says Atma is superior to buddhi,buddhi is supperior to mind,mind is superior to senses,senses are superior to body.Also,the subtlety of the Atma is more than buddhi ,buddhi more than mind,mind more than senses,senses more than body.Can you tell me the subtlety of these four parts of the mind and how do they fit in the above scheme of things?

    • @Tapas2017
      @Tapas2017  5 років тому

      Ash, I am not aware of any categorisation of the four compartments of mental faculties mentioned above in Vedas, as far as I know. I will take a stab at it though.
      There are 5 koshas (sheaths) and anadmayi (bliss sheath) is subtler than Gyan (knowledge sheath) is subtler than Manomayi (mind sheath). Here Manas, Buddhi Ahamkara and Chitta are more like apparatus to intercept the various sheaths, so Buddhi(intelligence) can help intercept Gyan (Knowledge sheath) by shattering illusion (Bhrama) and delusion (Muddha). Manomayi (mind) sheath is composite of (Manas, chitta and ahamakara) as it composite of conscious thoughts (manas, ahamkara) we generate by imagining/pondering and subconscious thoughts aka emotions (chitta) that come to us spontaneously. Also, Chitta can be part of Sat-Chitta-Ananda aka truth-existence-bliss composite so can be across Mind ,knowlege and Bliss Koshas. Hope this helps.

    Manas or memory is not only in the brain...it is in every cell brother and it has 4 parts to it. And there is nothing called 'false ego' as ego itself is false and ahamkara means identity and not ego. Chitta is free from memories....so it has no samskaras. • @PradeepSingh-qp1wt
    @PradeepSingh-qp1wt 6 років тому

    Hey bro thanks for the nice explanation I wanted to ask.....we get some thoughts and we know these thoughts are not important (buddhi works here) and those thoughts gets weaker and disappear but after a period of time same thought comes again we know by our buddhi that it is not important but still we get doubt and we start thinking why it is happening again....so I wanted to know who creats this doubt

    • @Tapas2017
      @Tapas2017  6 років тому +5

      Thanks for your comment. Instantaneous thoughts that come all of a sudden are generated in Manas. Buddhi is like a filter which lets or prohibits it from converting into speech or action. No matter whether it is generated first time or a subsequent time, if it is powerful thought it will override buddhi. The content of the thought, our past reaction to the
      thought and it persuasiveness determines its power. Buddhi provides rationalisation about this thought.
      Sometimes when Manas and Ahamkara join forces then Buddhi is unable to provide a counter intutive rational and then people say or do things they repent later. Eg: thing done in anger. Similarly, sometimes a thought may come that the Buddhi is facilitating even if we know it is wrong: say we are hungry: Thought comes steal a cookie from the shop,
      Buddhi rationalises if you dont steal now, you may feel miserable out of hunger. One cookie stolen will not ruin the shop. These cookies are overpriced they need to be stolen to
      teach the shopkeeper a lesson and so forth. So Buddhi can work either way to potentiate or annhilate a thought.
      Why does it keep coming back? Well, it keeps coming back because it has become a part of Chitta, the sunsconscious ware house of thoughts. So depending on past
      experience, environment and intution even if we are not thinking about it , the subconscious mind has registered it and will present to Manas from Chitta when it is feasible.
      Feasible times to act up dormant thoughts are when Manas is muted, say when we are sitting bored, or dreaming or lying in bed or doing something low key like that.
      It never enters consious mind when we are extremely busy, alert or doing something life saving/threatening.
      Hope that helps.

    • @PradeepSingh-qp1wt
      @PradeepSingh-qp1wt 6 років тому

      Tapas 2017 bro if we don't give power to that thought that has been registered into chitta the thought slowly dies poison of aversion when we let that thought come and and convince ourselves with intellect it's just a thought and thought are neutral then our chitta stop giving us that thought? Or chitta gets cleared from that particular pattern

    • @Tapas2017
      @Tapas2017  6 років тому +3

      @@PradeepSingh-qp1wt good question. What actions we take depends on few things that I can think of based on my reading of Gita/Upanishad.
      1. Free will or Ikchha Shakti/sankalp
      2. Prarabh Karma and Sanchit karma
      3. Gunas or material modes of nature we embrace (based on the free will and prarabdh karma).
      Thinking using Buddhi (and free will) that "it is a thought that should not affect us" is also a thought. Every thought sinks from Manas to Chitta. You dont want that. You want to make Chitta Clutter free.
      So you want to be neutral, innocent or ignorant that unwanted thoughts even exists. As many times it has been thought so strongly it has been ingrained in Chitta so whether you like it or not it will rewind a certain number of times subconsciously. That is just Chitta replay. Whether you ackowledge it depends whether you will ingrain it more or let it die off. All you can do is not ackowledge it with a positive or negative reaction or indifference.
      Neglect is the best treatment to curb any unwanted thought speech or action. So after few reruns whether in boredom state or in dreams if you stop consciously
      thinking about it slowly it will dissapear from chitta. This why we say time heals a lot of pain and agony. But if we consciously and continuously welcome reruns of
      that past event we will never get over the incident. This is called State of Asakti or compulsive entanglement.
      Karma should be be done in Nishkama karma. You want to be Stithapragya or indifferent to most things in life, the more the better. You can watch the 8 limbs of Yoga episode which talks about how to be stithapragya or stoic. Start with controlling breathing like pranayama, or body exercises of Yogaasna, then go into Dhrana or mental picturisations and then only you will gain control over Dhayana ( or even Samadhi). But direct control over Dhayana is very difficult. That is why most people cannot even sit still for 5 minutes in meditation.
      Often times things that help get into thought control start with karma yoga and then later merge into Dhayana yoga.
      Like the Jainism theory of 5 S: Seva, Satsang, Samarpana, Sadhna and Self realisation.

I guess inner dialogues are short term relives but being neutral is complete detachment

    • @Tapas2017
      @Tapas2017  5 років тому +2

      @@PradeepSingh-qp1wt You can use inner dialogue to encourage yourself to perform a conceived thought. So it can be inspire us to be better versions of ourselves. Think and say positive thoughts. Also Kill ANTs = Automatic negative thoughts.
      Use selective indifference or not paying attention or abandoning reactionary anger, guilt or shame to feel bad about recurring negative thoughts. They will slowly disappear. Also if you do "Dharna" when negative thought comes it will help to disable those thoughts.

    • @Tapas2017
      @Tapas2017  6 років тому +4

      Thanks for your comments.
      I watched that lecture. Sadhguru says "Chitta is the innermost core of the mind which is your connection to the conscious mind", similar to what I have said. I did not find in that lecture anywhere he states that "chitta is intelligence without memory".
      My lectures are based on Bhagwad Gita ( which Sadhguru has emphatically stated he has not read) and Upanishads. So, I do not believe all views will align identically. The beauty of Indian vedic philosophy is that it is open to interpretation. "Ekam sat, vipra bahudha vadanti" i.e. Truth is one, ways of telling it are manifold.
      We should stick with the explanation that makes most sense to us :)
      Cheers.

    Ahhh so this is an interpretation of an ancient science for today's industrial psychology. 🤔

    This is incomplete and therefore wrong.
    This is for my Indian brothers and sisters who are interested in the Yogic tradition.
    I've read many articles (and Isherwoods translation on Patanjali) that say that Chitta is consciousness, and Manas, Buddhi, and Ahamkara are subsections of this Chitta. Sat chit ananda: experience, consciousness, bliss.
    Manas, as Sadhguru says, is the silo of memory. This manas appears in chitta: consciousness. Buddhi appears in consciousness. Ahamkara appears in consciousness. Becoming this consciousness (instead of the vritti) is yoga. It is the end of suffering. The 8fold path of Buddha and 8 limbs of Yoga are roughly the same.
    Generating good beliefs are the Yamas and Niyamas. It has nothing to do with 'goals'. It has to do with moral action. You need a strong moral basis to still the mind. Becoming a good person is far more effective in ending suffering than success through 'goals'.
    Dissolving Ahamkara happens in Samyama. When we are in Samadhi, we get a taste of endless being, pure intelligence, pure consciousness, unaffected by samskaras. Tat Tvam Asi.

      Your name should be Maanas (मानस); born from मन: and not Manas (मनस) which is a part within मन: । Royalty over rule 😁
