- A lot of people have been asking us how to fix the RCD unavailable message on their Toyota Camry… This fix also works for other Toyota vehicles like the Toyota Rav 4. Please proceed with caution as this is just an informative video clip ..
This will work for many year models including 2018 2019 2020 2021 2022
We have a new battery but we didn’t start the car for about 10 days causing the battery voltage charge to go low .. when we started the car, the yellow guide lines were gone on the screen . There was an exclamation on the upper left corner and the message RCD unavailable was on the display . The dynamic yellow lines were missing whenever you back up on reverse ..
We canvassed our local dealer and they said this would cost $200 to recalibrate the cameras and get the yellow lines back on .. hmmmm
Anyway upon some research we made this video to show how to fix this issue
Some people get this message after changing the steering wheel , battery dying , weak battery or new battery change ..

@@MTXSE26 ok. I did that and was able to work but turning the wheels was a was locked but not all the why if that makes sense
@@christianmbabazi9722 the wheels shouldn’t be locked when the car is on (engine on running ). You’ll need to turn the wheels as if you’re driving
Thank you. After spending almost $800 on service 3 weeks ago and the service sticker still marked battery in the green, my battery died the following week. It wasn't until changing the battery that the RCD became unavailable. I called for a quote today, hoping Toyota would see what I just paid and how loyal our family is to Toyota. They quoted me at $179 to start a diagnosis. Crazy because I told them what was wrong. They even hung up on me. Taking time to watch this video and do this myself in less than 2 minutes saved this underpaid teacher $200 plus. I thank you!!! ❤

I have a 2018 Camry. My battery died and I got a jump start. RCD was unavailable. Simply turning the wheel all the way left and then all the way right worked for me. I didn't have to recalibrate via the service menu. Thank you!
The same issue popped up just few days ago, replaced the battery and the camera fixed itself without doing anything. This is a good indicator to let you know that the battery is on its way out like mine was.
Thanks for this! Got my car back from the shop yesterday where they had to do a battery replacement and the "RCD Unavailable" message was being displayed. Following this procedure, I was able to get the issue resolved. I did have one minor issue in that I hadn't turned my audio off before starting the procedure. Once I realized I needed to do that, the process went smoothly.
For anyone who has issues where service menu does not show up after doing the steps, make sure you have your car audio off first. I had this issue and turning off the car audio worked for me.

Great video that will save people from taking their car into the dealership. Just a note: Turn your radio off before trying to go into the service menu. Otherwise, your radio presets will toggle through .

The timing of this video is impeccable. Just had to replace car battery and was dealing with rcd unavailable on the reverse camera for a week. Followed the steps and it worked perfectly.

I have a 2018 Camry. To get to the service menu I had to turn off the display, then hold the audio button down while I cycled the lights from off to on four or five times.
That was the only difference though. I just had to replace my battery and you saved me a trip to the dealer. Thank you!

I'm a professional mechanic and shop owner and this video helped me, thanks a lot! We have nothing in service info that shows us how to get iinto the NAV system calibration menus. We can do it with other tools, but it's a bit longer. I had to replace a defectve rear camera and calibration was needed for the steering lines.

I did this on my 2019 es350 as well... to get into the service menu it's hit menu and turn on and off the lights 3 times :).
Lexus calls it steering wheel angle. Your steps though fix the issue :)

Thank you. I replaced my battery and had the same rcd error. Unfortunately doing the buttons 5times each wouldn't put it into service mode for some reason. But I put my car in remand cut the wheel stop to stop. and that fixed it. Thanks again!

wow. I just got this issue on my camry and just yesterday my car acted like it didn't wanna start like the battery was low. I got the battery tested and they said it was going bad. Soi guess that problem is linked to battery. thanks

Actually, after another day, it did it again, so I had my battery tested - yep, bad battery. But had Autozone replace it, then reset it myself (again) and it's been fine for a day or so. Assuming it was a good warning before I got stranded somewhere. Still - Thanks!
