If you're a fan of "Ace Attorney", you won't want to miss "Murders on Yangtze River", a horizontal axis detective game developed by OMEGames Studio. The game takes you on a journey through early 20th century China as you solve a series of intriguing cases along the Yangtze River. With its stunning brush painting art style and engaging storyline, it offers a unique gaming experience that will keep you on the edge of your seat.
John Shen, the protagonist of this story, studied law in London alongside his brother, who was studying biology. One day, Shen's brother was found dead in his dormitory, and the police ruled his death as suicide. But when Shen stumbled upon a newly published detective novel on Shanghai News that depicted a murder scene identical to his brother's death, he began to suspect foul play. Convinced that the amateur writer was somehow involved in his brother's death, Shen returned to China to uncover the truth.

I think it's pretty neat how the "pressing" happens during the flow of the initial statement (with various characters asking questions and making comments while the witness is testifying), and the cross-examination is left for just raising a point with evidence. Makes the initial testimony longer, but for all of us who end up pressing every statement anyway, this feels much more streamlined.

I was really confused at first, since I was so used to "pressing" all statements like you'd usually do in Ace Attorney to get additional information and so I was at a loss at first. But honestly, I really like the progression in the investigations/trials in this game. And as I get further and further along in the game, it seems to me like the devs really pay a lot of attention to detail, not only in their presentation but in these cases as well and in turn reward players who pay attention to these subtle details. It's very satisfying and fun I think!
Like for example, Office Ma being the "second soldier" Old Chou saw can be inferred by the timeline and evidence. But the devs even gave you a little hint in the presentation, since in the short clips you see when Chou talks about someone leaving the house, you only see a shot of feet running out, but in one clip it looks more like Yang Erh carrying the scroll and in the other more like someone carrying a scabbard similar to what Officer Ma does. It's a very fast and short clip, but still very neat and there's some other subtle hints in the dialogue as well, if you pay attention!
Also huge respect to the devs of letting us genuinely accuse both a chicken and a dog of being the murderer so far. It's absolutely ridiculous and I love it!

While the chicken did one murder, the dog did the other.

Okay, was not expecting the accusation to go that route. It makes sense of course, but I thought that it this were to happen, it would have been later. It is pretty neat that this is taking place in an actual court. Sure, we had the judge presiding over the investigation before, but it always feels different just being in court. I also really like how the temperature thing has been turned on its head in this case. That's a really creative decision.

Oh wow, this is REALLY just like Ace Attorney. The Steam forum that discribes this game really ment it when it stated this game is ment to cater to the AA fanbase.

I'm still pretty sure that the murder weapon was...
...a length of bamboo stalk, like the old vendor was selling.
