Same. Took my kid when they came through Salt Lake. Wasn't much of a fan on first listen. My comparisons were if Judas Priest and Journey had a baby, if Dio had a Vegas residency, or Eurovision Mastodon. But after seeing them live, I get it. Not every song is a winner, but there are solid tracks that are now in my rotations.
I love Ghost - they're just so much fun.
First time I heard Ghost, they were the opener for System of a Down in Chicago. Awesome group.
I love Ghost, the music has such an old metal nostalgia feel to it and the concept is frankly hilarious. I hope they stick around
I think you're right about some people finding it "too light". Based on the imagery, you'd think they'd be a lot heavier and scarier but, especially in this era, they were more like Blue Oyster Cult or something. Rock, for sure, but melodic and operatic.
This is vintage Ghost, man... Listen to some of their more recent stuff, like "Hunter's Moon," "Kaisarion," or "Jesus He Knows Me." They've definitely evolved as a band and grown more comfortable in their shtick. My personal favorite.
I was so happy that the did a Genesis cover, Jesus he knows me. They kept the drive of the song but it definitely feels more gritty and intense
Dude, you hit the nail on the head! For the longest time I always got a very familiar feeling watching this video. And I couldn't put my finger on it. But when you mentioned the hammer films, that's what it is! It just reeks of the hammer films! 100%.

I just saw Ghost on August 23rd and they were fantastic.
Year Zero is one of my favorite Ghost songs. Ghost is a great band. Very few of their songs I don't like.

It is hell. Hell is a greeting phrase in old Swedish. I guess Tobias, who loves to play with words, thought it was fun to use hell instead of hail since hell also is, well hell. Suits Ghost perfectly. ☺
