Final Visit to Junction Valley Railroad

- On August 14th, I took a final visit to Junction Valley Railroad in Bridgeport, MI. They are closing for good after the Spook Trains in October due to the new insurance rule. They have been around for 35 years, which in my book is really good. I've been there a few times in the past few years, and it has been fun, but all good things must come to an end. Special thanks to the folks at Junction Valley Railroad for keeping this little place around for quite some time.

Damn the insurance companies! Their new rule is ruining so many tourist attractions.
whats the new rule?
It is required that all tourist attractions have coverage for terrorism attacks. REQUIRED. There's no choice. Dammit.
JacksonAndLansing Railroad oh
WAIT TERRORIST ATTACKS?!? WHY?!? IT'S A LITTLE FAMILY FRIENDLY RAILWAY?!?!
Required for all attractions. You can blame Obama, I mean Obummer.
Very entertaining and fun to watch. Thanks for posting this.
Hahahahahaha. That massive noise and tiny little train. This so cheered me up
Thank you for watching! Glad you enjoyed!
Ha! I want one of these, in my back yard! lol ... heck, this would take well over more than just a back yard 😉
I’m trying to buy a engine
Looks like fun!! Great horn as well!! Thanks for posting!!
Thank you for watching!
I'm going to miss this it was a tradition to go for the spook train. I was hoping to continue it with my children someday
It sure is a shame. Hopefully someone will buy it and continue the tradition.
It's a shame that it was closed down, but the man who owned it was a truck driver, and he and his family couldn't give it the full attention it needed. He was talking about reopening it, but I don't think that it'll happen!😔
I was almost crying man, especially at the end. That was upsetting for me to watch at the end when you were in the vehicle and said farewell.. That's a BIG shame that this railroad is not gonna run due to some crappy insurance thingy. I'm glad you got to go for the final time!!! You did awesome!! Spectacular video, shots, and hard work editing man!!! I am hoping to do a HUGE railfanning trip or two in the next week or two for my birthday. I have a *MUST WATCH* currently uploaded and the description explains why I didnt catch the return WW train with 732 in the lead
It was sad, especially the last time around. It is quite unfortunate. Thanks so much Darius! I'll be looking forward to the videos.
+JacksonAndLansing Railroad And how is the engineer getting in the unit to drive the train? Same for the conductor in the caboose?
Standard Gauge Railroader 14:45 There is a small door in both the caboose and engine. The front of them is the leg-room.
+JacksonAndLansing Railroad Nice!!! When I first saw a video of the JVR, it looked like an RC train 😂😂
Standard Gauge Railroader Ya sure
wow!!! this is an awesome video I love it
Thank you very much!
Thank you
Like how the person is standing there waiting for the train way before it comes XD they could have just walked across but didn't. That's good of them.
As long as the crossing signals are going, you should wait.
Wow that's so cool......
Yeah, I really liked this place.
Sad this railroad is abandoned and grow over now
I've seen a news report that said that someone in the family who owned this railroad had passed away. It's really sad to see something like this go. Never have I gone, but it looked like the kind of railroad that any child or adult would want to go to. I wonder what happened to all of the equipment for this charming little railroad. Hopefully, it sits in a museum, is being used for another railroad, or something else that doesn't involve it being scrapped.
wherever it goes, lawsuit types will follow, hoping to sue whoever owns it - idiots
Actually, It still exists, It justs doesn't function as a public quarter-scale railroad. Equipment is still there, too! I wonder how much it costs, my family might be able to buy it. If my dad was able to accumulate more than 1 million in pay (not current money we have), we could possibly afford it.
Heck, I'd buy some of the track, three railcars, and an engine (doesn't have to run, as long as the frame, trucks, and wheels are still intact). I'd construct my own miniature railway on my own property. It wouldn't be open to the public, but I'd allow private invitations for people to still ride on it.
Two years ago I almost got my own full size steel caboose to put on my property, but then the economy took a dump... Finances would be an issue right now, but after couple of years when the economy gets back on it's feet, anything would be possible!
the owner told me "customers" showed up with lawsuits in mind -one lady wanted to sue because the horn was too loud, another wanted to sue because the horn was too quiet, cockroach people ruining it for everyone
Sad.
it is like a miniature train you can ride on
Yeah. There is even an engineer in the cab.
I guess I'll check it out on the absolute last run.
That would be on Labor Day, or the very last one in October.
The very last one.
it is for my late birthday gift.
Happy B-Day
Is there AC in the cabin of the engines?
I believe there is a small fan.
@@JAILRail good enough
Wish I could have gone before it closed
My wife and I been there a few times, a pleasant ride and a nice diversion. Sad that it's gone.
Hey this is on the day what my birthday
Nice!
Wow. Some of that track work is in pretty awful condition. Watching the equipment bob up and down. In a few shots you can see the rail flex and the cement crack.
Yup. But it still serves it’s purpose nonetheless.
My birthday is on the 17 August today
Happy birthday!
Well I have to go to sleep soon I am going to Six Flags tomorrow.
Cool
Yea! We were up there, the first week of November. We were cutting up the trestle work & signal bridges. Much of the track was already lifted. We took a skip loader & just pry an end up. From there, it just came out of the ground like opening a can of beans! Made some pretty good money too! Much of that stuff was good quality & we got a great sell price on it from a foundry!
Not true. GTFO.
+JacksonAndLansingRailroad! They are tearing it up! Seems the land is more lucrative to developers than an amusement park. The stuff was coming down, being cut apart & hauled away when I was there in November. I got a good profit out of it & I didn't get the entire contract!
They're not. No one falls for your stupid tricks anymore. We all know you're just a troll.
+JacksonAndLansing Railroad Then please explain the torn up tracks, pushed over trestles, removed equipment & the CASH in my pocket! What you may think of me is none of my concern or interest!
It's a lie. That's all there is to it.
Why say final visit? you can go more then your last time
I could... I might. This will at least be my final visit for the summer trains. Might ride the Spook train.
+JacksonAndLansing Railroad ohh . well good luck
+Train Lover123 There won't be any more visits now. Already the rails have been pulled up and the locos torched.
I'm honestly sad that this had to go over a stupid damn insurance company. I wonder how much this place cost, though.
it was people suing the trains insurance co. with frivolous suits , not the ins. cos fault, people are too stupid
Do you know I'm 11 now
Awesome!
It's a shame all this equipment is just sitting and rotting now. Once Mr. Stenger passed away the family had little interest continuing the operation. They should have at least tried to sell off the equipment to any interested party. At the very least they should stored the equipment indoors for protection. Doubtful any of it is restorable after several Michigan winters.
Everything is turning to a liability man and it's sad to see stuff like this go.
America has gone down the shitter.
