However, no one back then called it, gangsta rap, and Schooly D wasn't trying to be gangsta, he was simply keeping it real. Gangsta Rap was a term that didn't exist before the advent of NWA. Conscious rappers are more in the vein of KRS1, Chuck D, etc.
The beastie boys didn't claim to be anything other than a front especially in the 80s, However the Paul's Boutique album changed that and they one respect from a lot of artists.
@@dlarremore park side killers....I grew up in southwest Philly but @ 14 we moved to wynnefield (where Will Smith is from, saw him all the time b4 the real fame 😂)...anyway, park side is right next to wynnefield.....hilltop , park side & especially wynnefield are/were neighborhoods where black ppl with a lil $$$ lived. Most 2 working parents, black business owners & professionals. Those places WERE NOT real ghettos or intended to be.
