DETAILS:
HFD responded to a report of a vehicle into the back of a parked semi truck
The pickup truck caught fire
Someone extinguished the fire prior to firefighters arrival
Crews arrived and had to lift the semi trailer off of the truck
There was an extensive extrication
LifeFlight was called to transport him to an area hospital
The driver of the pickup was the only injury
He is in serious condition

Hopefully they can do proper blood work to see if the driver was under the influence and if they were arrest them when they are discharged
Lucky to be alive. I worked an accident like this once where the driver wasn’t so lucky and lost her head.
I cannot be the only one disappointed that this was a 7.5 minute video, and the gentleman is shown being loaded into the helo at the 2.5 minute mark?! I for one, do not come to these videos to watch the pretty lights and strapping young men pack up their tools. I come here to SEE HOW THEY WORK. To watch them untangle the twisted messes from the people without damaging them further, and getting them OUT, ALIVE. The puzzling process is quite fascinating, and must be done JUST right. THIS one would have been FABULOUS.
Perhaps this very fortunate person can tell us when he recovers, just how he managed to NOT observe the 9ish foot wide, 12ish foot tall, 66ish foot long silver vehicle, apparently parked on the side of the road...well out of the travel lane?? Curious minds want to know.

It really doesn't matter who was actually at fault . The Tractor-trailer driver is going to take the hit for this , and his company's insurance rates are going to double !

It'd sad that the driver caused the crash on Christmas night. That's a bad way to end Christmas day.
And that's why they ticket trucks for parking on the shoulder unless it was broken down there's no need for it to be there
There shold be a class action lawsuit against these backend trailer guards to get them to meet some realistic safety standards and not just get a pass.
What should trailer manufacturers do, hang 25,000 pounds of steel on the back of a trailer that still wont stop a 4,000 pound vehicle going 75 mph from tearing through it? Trailers go through the same crash tests all other vehicles do. 👎
