- Prince Rama Varma sings the classic and classical Hindi Bhajan from the 1952 film Baiju Bawra, originally rendered by Mohammed Rafi. This Hindu Devotional song, sung exquisitely by a Muslim, was also written by a Muslim, Shakeel Badayuni and the music was composed by yet another Muslim, Naushad.
While Mohammed Rafi had a unique voice which sounded masculine even when he sang at an extremely high pitch, our Varma ji has a rich, deep voice which is completely different. Yet, without imitating Rafi outright, he manages to capture the soul and the essence of the composition and pays tribute to all the great masters involved.
The movie itself was an attempt to bring classical music closer to the masses, with Naushad Ali composing all the songs in it, based on Ragas.
Rafi Saab stole our heart with this Hindolam wonder. Wonderful Prince Sir..
BMK’s Hindolam and this Hindolam have close similarities . I don’t know if others also share my opinion.
Just like the original ♥
Absolutely great feel ..evocative of watching the movie with Mohammed Rafi's voice rendering the song🎊🎊🌷🌷
Well done Varmaji...it is not easy to bring out Rafisahab's emotions in d songs. You did it❤
