54:57 As much as people joke that Sips is a boomer, he always comes back to these extremely gen X attitudes.
Lewis, we definitely know whether parasocial relationships are better than Prozac. They aren't. This isn't a new question for psychological researchers. Obviously the internet has created some novel situations, and the psychological and medical knowledge base isn't where we'd like it to be yet, but this kind of thing isn't a new frontier.

12:00 Teomers are a thing amd may be connected to age but it is not that simple. Age is definitely far more complicated than telomers. It´s already been quite disproven that telomers are directly responsible for age. You can shorten an animals telomers and they won´t suddenly age faster or anything like that.
The purpose of them is to protect the "real" DNA from damage since there is a type of damage that basically happens to the ends of the DNA constantly so this is a sort of buffer.
That said they are linked to aging. We just aren´t quite saure if they are caused by aging or age related diseases and such are caused by them. And they are certainly not the whole story. We actually have found ways to extend telomers and this certainly does not stop aging (though there is some evidence that it may slow it).
As to stem cell research these concerns are actually quite outdated. We don´t really use embryos anymore as about a decade ago a way was discovered to make artificial stem cells (iPSCs) from skin cells and such. Of course that doesn´t stop fundamentalists from being against it.

One year my cousin and I were dismantling a bunch of those little pop-snap things and we grabbed a large portion of tin-foil and dumped all the pop-snaps into the tinfoil to make one giant pop-snap. As my cousin was closing it up and twisting the end to make sure nothing could fall out it went off in his hands and he stood there in shock as all our hard work went to waste. His hands were covered in a bit of soot and they hurt a little, but otherwise he was fine. we dumped like 5 boxes worth of snap-pops into it. The bang was huge. Good times.

If you're really interested in faction leaders sneaking into power, look into Stalin. He essentially became leader of the soviet union entirely through an administrative role by placing those loyal to him in subordinate positions that covered every facet of running a nation. That way, once their faction usurped power, everyone who he placed got a big promotion, so obviously they'd help and side with him. A bit of an oversimplification, but it's really interesting how he didn't really utilize any "exciting" means.

The funny thing is we have found a fair few medications that reverse or delay aging in animal models, but as soon as we introduce humans into the mix they don't work at all. god darn humans being all complicated and shit.
Also if you want mental exercise that's still fun I highly recommend puzzle games, I love them almost too much so I have to pace myself to not get the tetris effect.

    Today I fucked up...
I've been very lonely lately, both physically and emotionally. I have plenty of physical options but I'm at a point where not having an emotional connection leaves me feeling kind of hollow and generally dissapointed. So I found these guys on UA-cam and they make relatively risque videos. After 30 to 40 videos I went to their channel page, which led me to their podcast channel. They make videos very much geared towards everyone, and I scrubbed through several of their videos until I found one. The part of the title that jumped out to me was "Triforce! #199.1 - Pyrionopodopolous, revolutionary leader" and I'm thinking to myself, this is the ONE! Emotional AND physical satisfaction. Everything was going great until the very end @1:07:40 when he says "Thank you for listening to the podcast. We'll see you next week. Love ya. Goodbye!" and I started ugly crying. I was NOT expecting him to take it THAT far in the video. To be honest, I'm still kind of sad about it, but now that I've written it out, it seems a bit funny.

Its very trusting to open up like that, and I think even you Pyrion can relate to "lonely and sad" as stoic as you may try to be. I don't like to think our darker moments necessarily define us, they should be lessons in self honesty.

If you are in an emotionally vulnerable place like that, I can see a phrase like "and that's why I love you" triggering that reaction almost regardless of context. I think the whole thing about it being in a porn video actually makes it even more likely, just think about your mindset when you are going into watching porn and when you are coming (heh) out of it. It's relaxed, it's private, and in your own mind you are putting yourself in a role in that scene. I agree that it is probably unhealthy which is why it does fit in the TIFU category; they realize they've come to rely on something as impersonal and fake as pornography to try to fill a need that they are lacking.
That being said I've given up on TIFU and reddit in general because everything you read is one extreme or another, often totally made up or clearly embellished for attention. That's probably the biggest failing of the modern internet, that it is used to stand in for roles that historically have been filled by humans irl. It's almost impossible to make a real connection with people in the context of popular internet media, and even when you do it is hard to know their intentions. You even get people you know or used to be familiar with sending you messages as if they really want to connect when in reality they want to get you into their MLM.
I was raised in a household where computer use, and as an extension internet use, was always highly encouraged and have been recently grappling with the question as to how a child should be exposed to what is out there. It's hard because I never had any filters and was able to browse anything, and believe me I did. That being said, no matter how much death, porn, and other "Adult themed" content I viewed I think I turned out OK (maybe a bit cynical). I definitely also watched a lot of similar content to some of the braindead things you see today, whether it be corporate written cartoons or "Influencers" that are actually doing really harmful pranks and just trying to make a buck off children. The trends are different but overall I'd actually say the internet today is way LESS of a wild west than it was say 15 years ago. I can't even name how many websites there used to be based entirely off of watching people die on video, non-consensual themed porn, scams, malware etc, all of which have been either shut down because of media attention, forced to shut down by content hosting companies, their banks, etc or unindexed by the likes of Google.
All this is to say that I don't really think you can reliably limit a childs exposure to these things if they are seeking them out. I think there are reasonable restrictions that could be put on a child's smart device, but once they figure out how to get around a prohibition the jig is up. What's probably more important is what you intentionally expose a child to in order to prepare them for dealing with these things on their own, like talking about consent, sharing feelings and being honest when they ask uncomfortable questions.
    i dunno im dumb
