I was so pleased that Pyrion brought up at 28:00 how I feel about haggling in middle- or low-income countries. The guidebook will say "don't let the taxi drive take advantage of you!" or something, and what it's talking about is them 'scamming' you into paying two bucks for a ride that you'd pay twenty bucks for back home, and NO! no, you must *argue* with this dude to get him to take you there for fifty cents! Ahh, fuck off, just, like. If you're a student travelling on five dollars a day or w/e, sure, I guess - if anyone even does that anymore. You're an adult who's hugely wealthy on global terms, just pay the guy.

A friend of mine is an Anthropologist and she studied haggling in South East Asia, not as a South East Asian cultural practice bit as a touristic cultural practice. It turns out, the idea of haggling is the result of a deeply ingrained racist idea that 'foreign' people have less elaborate currency systems, when pretty much everywhere in the world today has a currency with a determined value and goods have a determined value. So no haggling in 99% of places tourisrs haggle.

Yeah, I mean, there's a small segment of people for whom it's just a job, who willingly choose to do it and have actual control over what they agree to. I do think it's important to acknowledge that, so I didn't have an issue with how it was introduced. But it's obviously very important to recognize the seedy side, and to understand that it's more abusive than not. I get that Lewis was just rambling and thinking out loud, and it's entirely likely that he'd realize that equality *wouldn't* lead to more old people dating young people if he gave it more thought.
But yeah, the lack of awareness they all had about the hypothetical guy with the old woman was staggering. I would really love to hear them get hit with the realization that it would be the same the other way around.

@@knitterknerd This is a somewhat interesting question about what consent is and when someone is willing. I mean yes plenty of women choose it just because. @@vrrrrrr-uwu To pimp a butterfly, Kids see Ghost, The Money store, Lemonade, Random Access Memories, Plastic Beach, To be kind, Blackstar, Blonde etc. Saying there aren’t great albums of the 2010s is woefully ignorant. It’s just like people of the 60s/70s complaining about music just being noise. It’s a boomer response.

@@highvoltage7797 the above list is very good, not to mention some more 60s/70s sounding albums (if that's your thing) like any Tame Impala record, Mac Demarco, Anderson .Paak, etc. There are plenty of artists today that have deep influences of the past, but keep pushing forward.
Despite what PFlax suggests, we don't need another U2, we already have the real thing. But plenty of great artists today are inspired by U2 and make their own thing that's great

@@zicon4 Oh I love 60s/70s sounding music, that’s why I’m excited to hear the new Silk sonic album. And of course some of my favourite albums come from those decades.
I’ve said it before and people will probably disagree, but I just think Pyrion isn’t a nice guy. He seems ignorant, angry and contrarian most of the time. Same with Daltos, but that’s a different conversation.

@@highvoltage7797 Well here’s the problem with criticizing someone else’s opinion on music because I genuinely dislike everything you named. It’s not ignorant, it’s just different strokes. AKA your music sucks

gran torino when it came out had people giving it so much praise but it really wasn't that good or interesting. sure the outcome message in the end that the korean war veteran can become friends with the Asian kid is great and all theoretically. but it wasn't some cinematic treasure with some profound new heart jerking idea or anything. it was simple. sure you dont need a big budget explosion tragedy problem to make a good movie, but this example was no masterpiece or anything close by how it was spoken of. honestly it was boring and not that well done, like the supporting actors were terrible and seemed like a movie i could make better in my backyard. felt like the movie would be better if it was half as long as it was since it wasn't any amazing story to just feel like it was dragging along
