Video quality is poor but that still does not make the magic any less! When I think of Figure Skating - Katarina Witt and THIS performance are still the first!
I do not think ever would be a star like her.
Thank you, Katarina! You are an important part of my childhood.

The thing that always amazed me about this woman (other than her stunning looks) was her competitiveness. She had those laser like eyes that she would lock on competitors and the audience. Truly a world-class athlete who happens to look like a supermodel.

I remember she was so damned PRETTY and conveyed a pureness about her.

i think that exactly that middle section made it work so well.

For some reason I've never connected to her as a competitor - she seems so cold and calculating, but there is no question that this program and her skating truly set the standard for artistic skating - it's dramatic perfection and very few skaters (kwan being one) have even come close to it since.

she is so greate.... i ones of my idols...
the costume is great an perfectly to the music... She is totally the best carmen on ice ever...
@tuttyfruttybublegum remember it´s ´88 and not 2007... so it´s clear that the custome is not so beautiful as the costumes they wear today!

Katarina Witt is a wonderful skater and an olympic champion, but no one jumps like Yuna Kim. I think Tara Lipinski came close, but she's so tiny and covers little space. After watching all 4 of Witt's performances, I think it's an understatement that Yuna Kim's performances are 'one' of the greatest. There's not much difference in ladies' jumping techniqies, most female skaters jump like Witt.

Divine skating! Skating competitions remain, to me, an odd creature, however; imagine having a running commentary provided to a music or theatrical performance, where the only thing considered is how many "moves" of various kinds are performed!? This strange and very superficial thinking must constitute a tremendous frustration for the real artists of skating. Witt speaks from her soul; that is what matters, here as in all art. Skating was never a sport.

It was sad to find out about the steriod taking of Katarina Witt, but it wasn't all totally surprising.

Dick Button needs to shut up... the slow section in meant to add in choreography and catch your breath. I'd much rather see Katarina's posing than Debi Thomas' "athletic" Carmen that didn't hold a candle to this masterwork.

Maybe Becacuse I am a Japanese, I like Midori Ito skating better than hers.
