Played this on low volume for my new 9 week old puppy, first 15 minutes she was pacing around looking for the source and pawing at me. Ignored her until she sat calm and gave her plenty of calm praise. Half an hour in, volume up a notch and she’s taken herself to her bed for a nap and happily snoring away Thank you for this!!
I did the same last year but with music that has a lot of sounds like that (Arma Dre is one specific band that I can recall rn, but it can be any noisy crunchy-bassy music with any vibes)
Remember to play this while providing your dog with a positive experience (eating, playing). The dog needs to associate the sounds to a positive experience. Purely playing this to your puppy is not enough!
Thank you so much, I have my first dog (rn half a year) and its going to be his first experience with fireworks. It helps us so much! He isn’t afraid of it anymore. I hope that New Years Eve are going to be great for us
This is awesome. Thank you so much. I now have a desensitization tool for a little shelter dog. He came to us in really rough shape. Physically and mentally. He was afraid of everything and I do mean everything. I've gotten him past it all but the fireworks and with this I have no doubt he can conquer that too. Thank you for this not only for AKK but all dogs everywhere!
My shelter dog is terrified of fireworks trembling and hiding etc. I played this and other than looking up when it started he didn't really react. hmmmmm. So I thought smell could also be a component. I lit a sparkler and when done brought it in the house to introduce that smell in addition to the sound. He didn't totally freak (definately wouldn't have wanted that!) but he was a lot more uncomfortable to the noise and smell combo. I add this just in case somebody else is working to desensitized a known already fearful dog . Fireworks are noise, smell and flashing light and any one or combination could be the trigger.
@@patrickandsharonkirby2493 thank you for this tip. . I also have a shelter dog who was terribly mistreated as a puppy. I got him at 4 months but poor little guy was just terrified. I worked hard with him and gaining his trust. Eventually I could work on training him and helping him overcome his fears. He is now 7 years old and fireworks are one of his only fears. Large dogs he is actually more terrified of yet, and he will literally start shaking uncontrollably behind my knees if one is near. Clearly something traumatic happened to him. I don’t know if I can help him overcome his fear of large dogs but it’s easy enough to keep him away from them. However, fireworks are unavoidable. We have tons going off around us on July 4th and there’s a professional show less than a block away from our house. I tried all kinds of remedies but I finally brought him to a pet hotel for the night this year. He was so much happier and well rested.
Please don't think that because your dog has virtually no reaction to this that you've 'desensitised' him. Most electronic products don't produce the high or low frequencies that scare dogs so when they head this its just ransom noise.
This is EXACTLY what I needed, thank you! I'm using this because our new puppy got under the gate and ran away on his first fireworks night and was scared and alone out in the dark until a neighbour found him 😢 (thanking my lucky stars for our neighbours), so he's a bit scared of the outdoors at night now as well as the sound. I'll play at low volume on our morning walks and work our way up until I can play loudly on a night time walk. I hope I can achieve this by Canada Day! Good luck to all of you and to your little ones ❤
Please dont leave your new puppy outdoors and alone, especially during times of noisy celebrations. Come on people use your head and your heart. Your neighbor should have taken mercy on the poor pup.
They probably don't like the burning smells from real fireworks either. We can smell it in the air on bonfire night, so the smell must be so over powering to them
Thanks my dog cannot stand the sounds/noise of fireworks she gets anxious. But while playing this video she is calm and actually in nap mode. Finger crossed 4th of July she’ll have this same reaction
I just played this for my 1 yr old husky (the morning of the town fireworks) as this is his first 4th of July. Him nor my other 2 older boys flinched. They just laid still and acted like nothing was going on. So proud of them 🥰🥰
How did they do for the real thing? I’ve played these for my dog and he doesn’t react. However, when there’s really fireworks outside, I’m scared he is going to have a heart attack. He is so terrified and goes so crazy that we board him on July 4th. We have a professional show a block away from home and of course all the neighbors are shooting them all night long.
@@julievanderleest I didn't take all three, as that would've been too much for me considering I was with friends and the park was super crowded. I took my youngest and sat right next to the river (as close to the fireworks as possible), and he did fantastically! He periodically looked over me as I rewarded him for being calm with everything. He didn't bark; he didn't get up to check out the people walking right next to him. He laid right there with me. I'm so proud of him. I also believe my other boys would've reacted the same way. Though, I haven't gotten them used to being out and about at once.

I played this during the fireworks tonight for Fourth of July and my dog was laying down sleeping for the first time in 11 years. It was magic for his sweet anxious body 🧡
Played this over the past 2 days for my mini dachshund while playing with him and giving him treats. Was scared at first at a low volume but now he’s totally fine with it at full volume on a jbl boombox 3. This works
Thank you for this video. PLEASE put the instructions on the screen before the noise starts and warn people to turn the volume way way down if not totally off. If a dog is already afraid of these sounds, it is best to have sound off and have someone turn the sound on after the dog is engaged in play, not eating (unless dog can't play). Eating is too passive and if food is used as a distraction and award, it would make more sense to play the sound on low for a split second then offer a bit of food. Do that many times in a row. I fyou start the noise while dog is easing he may associate his eating, food, or thbowl with fear.
The problem with these firework desensitisation videos is the lack of silence. There needs to be intermittent silence between the fireworks, just like there is in real life. It's the loud bangs that come out of nowhere that make dogs jump and scare them. I have a playlist that replicates this if anyone is interested
