What an incredible opportunity. As an old U.S. Marine, that's had the good fortune to work with British Royal Marines, these experiences are a rare to see glimpse. Awesome! Thank you. Semper Fi.
I think you meant to say "As a US Marine I got to work with the Marines." Honour your seniors.
A Canadian and Haitian get invited aboard a Royal Navy ship. There is a story there. MI6 assets confirmed. I am on to you guys.
Haha MI-6.
@@haljetdvr woops
Jttv 😂
Little do they know the RN has resumed conscription!
They did spend several years studying in the UK.
How to extend you visa - stay on the ship , learn how to use the big guns ,make lots of friends with the pixulated guys -then tell the pencil pusher denying you visa to come get you if he can ..... tell them it is a drill .
😂😂😂😂😂😍
My dad is on that ship he is one of the royal marines on onboard
Wow, cool.
That is actually TOTALLY Cool, and I've heard of English Hospitality but WOW you Brits are Awesome...Best Wishes from Key Largo Florida and Thank your Father for his Service because Britain and the USA are in this shit to the End win or lose:)
I spent 8.5 years onboard HMS Albion watching this brought back so many memories
wish i could join the Royal Navy
@@captainchaos1311 that's the idea of Navy, to get new recruits and therefore are the benefits for the two visitors. Good idea from Navy.
It wasn’t clear that you understood that you had been given flag accommodations on a ship designed to command and support amphibious operations. A flag officer is an Admiral or a General. In the case of HMS Albion, one of each. Your accommodations were for the two flags required in amphibious operations. The two flags are the Admiral afloat and the General ashore. Your accommodations were undoubtedly better than the Captain’s and certainly much better than every officer or enlisted person aboard.
The Captain's mess is more equipped than theirs
I work on a vessel usually designated flag ship, our best VIP quaters aren't even close to those of HMS Albion. Holy shit.
@@thomasstuhr7243 albion is the flagship of the fleet (not to be confused with the flag ship of the first sea lord, HMS victory). Bulwark, the sister ship, was previously the flagship.
not only better than any other officer of enlisted person cabin, down in the seamans mess they have 40 to 50 people in the same space.
Thank you for that informative comment. The only time I have been on an operational RN vessel was a nuclear submarine when I was a boy. Accommodation was ridiculously cramped as you'd expect on even a big submarine but I'd never have imagined even the captain would have such a large room on any warship.
Shout out to the British navy for this.
Ahem
Royal
Sorry I’m so so so so sorry. I’ll never let that happen again! Dick!
@@jamesbond9873 it's ok it's kind of arrogant of us to say that we have "the" Royal Navy and every other monarchies navy is the royal navy of that country.
@@tc9634 + Nothing arrogant about it, founded in 1546 its the oldest Royal Navy, simple. Ex F126, F70, D89 myself, I'm not going to apologise for saying"Royal Navy" mucker.
@@jamesbond9873 You didn't edit your mistake though.
HMS Albion is one of the Royal Navy’s two amphibious assault ships. Totally badass mission with the Royal Marines and special ops guys. How in the world did you get a invite? Very cool.
You mean an "amphibious transport dock", which is basically a mini (3/4 scale) version of a U.S. "dock landing ship", and much smaller than a real amphibious assault ship, which is essentially an aircraft carrier with a landing craft well. The UK had exactly ONE, until they decommissioned it in 2018. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HMS_Ocean_(L12)#/media/File:Apache_Helicopter_Takes_off_from_HMS_Ocean_During_Operation_Ellamy_MOD_45153052.jpg
@@mrnickbig1 Wikipedia may refer to it as a "amphibious transport dock" but the Royal Navy refer to her as a amphibious assault ship.
@@stephenphelps9916 , actually, the RN calls it "amphibious transport dock"! The context of "amphibious assault ship" is used as a broad term, not ship class. Here is an excerpt from the official RN website. "HMS Albion has been described as the Royal Navy’s ‘Swiss Army knife’ - and for good reason. This amphibious transport dock is capable of carrying 400 sailors and Royal Marines with a huge range of skills and experience, from technicians and engineers to medics and chefs.
"
www.royalnavy.mod.uk/our-organisation/the-fighting-arms/surface-fleet/assault-ships/hms-albion
@@stephenphelps9916 You may want to so "Oh Great to know" I suspect mrnickbig is Military.
@mrnickbig1 HMS Ocean was is referred to as a “Landing Platform Helicopter” as an official ship type in the RN. HMS Ocean did not have Well Deck, this would mean that whilst yes, the ship had landing craft, the ship would have been incapable of landing something like a Challenger 2 Main Battle Tank (from landing craft). The feature of a Well Deck is required for a ship to be classified as an Amphibious Assault Ship. As well as this, in NATO there is no which thing as an Amphibious Assault Ship, only things like LPHs and numerous other amphibious ship types. I believe that you are trying to join HMS Ocean with the US terminology and not the NATO standard terminology. Adding to this, in the question of the Albion Class ships, there is a lot of overlapping between different classifications of ships. So yes, the ships are in one sense an “Amphibious Transport Dock”, but could in fact be classed as “Amphibious Assault Ship” as there are no real requirements set in stone for these kinds of debates (other than the obvious factors of the ships needing to be able to launch large numbers of troops). And finally, in reference of how you want to define a ships class by it’s size, you only need to look at Aircraft Carriers to see that your argument is flawed. Both the former HMS Ark Royal and the USS Nimitz were Aircraft Carriers of around to same time period. If you look at the size difference between the two ships, one is almost 100,000 tones heavier than the other, but both are classified as Aircraft Carriers. Ps, the Albion class is actuality bigger than both of the US Class’s of Dock Landing Ship. PPS, are you sure that you are referring to the Albion Class of Ships, or the Bay Class (which the UK and Australia also uses)?
How freaking cool is that?!? Getting invited aboard HMS Albion!!!
Cheers from Southern California USA!
No need to read the comments, I'll summarize:
"Its a ship, not a boat!"
"Thats really cool, how did you get an invite?"
"Why can't you get a schengen Visa if thay are willing to let you stay on a ship!?"
Good job Kika keeping your composure through the comments! 😉
Britain isn't in Schengen and it doesn't give out Schengen visas. It's like asking why Briitain didn't give them a Canadian visa :s
@@brazeiar9672 true, but it'll still end up in the comments because reasons...

That was totally unexpected and exciting to see that the RN would be open to the Sailing Channel World. Thank you Thank you "God Bless the Queen"
Loved your HMS ALBION experience. I navigated her predecessor HMS FEARLESS. Great ships - hope they looked after you in the Flag cabins!! Luxury!!
Fearless was deployed to the Falklands during the Argentine conflict if I remember correctly. Were you serving at that time?h

Amazing journey. Came across you guys years ago, when you were wondering why your keel was floppy. All that hard work, and the spirit of diving headlong into the unknown, has lead you to fantastic opportunities and adventures. Met you at Southampton boat show and you guys deserve it. Looking forward to seeing the rest of the story...
Fantastic video, possibly more so than you realise.....
If you type in "life on board in the navy" you get mostly US Navy videos. So this video of yours is, to me at least, doubly fantastic!!
Really looking forward to part two now. Thank you ❤️
The Royal Navy has been THE Navy for the past four hundred years.
How on earth did you swing this episode/series, senior officers accommodation, bath tubs! Looking forward to the next episode. The Bridge looked so big you could have a significantly large party on it. I hope the Royal Navy, Special Boat Squadron and the Fleet Air Arm show you the best of the best.
P.S. Watch out for their drinking games in the mess lol.
They would have never been given Flag Officer's quarters on a U.S. Navy ship...at least not back when I was in. Nice score though.

Recruitment opportunity for British Military on UA-cam
Paul D
If so, I don‘t mind. As long as they treat Kika and Dan with the utmost care and courtesy, of which I am sure!
Paul D I heard that on US ships there is no alcohol. Maybe that’s why the British sailors seem more relaxed
@Jim Nickles in the US Navy? Americans are way to strict when it comes to downtime and relaxing. Maybe the Puritan influence? I would guess that on the Royal Navy sailors that are not on duty they can have beer every night. I think I heard that from an American reporter who visited a British military ship in NYC.
Wait, I think I know Fred.
He had a similar problem when I did my Sea Survival course in Plymouth. Just unlucky I guess.
Brilliant video, can't wait for the next one.
Poor Fred, definitely unlucky! I was shocked how far he had to fall before he hit the sea this time.
Not sure about now but during my time in the US Navy, it was always "Oscar." I was submarines so not sure if that was the case on other vessels as well.
I would say someone "high up" on that ship, is an UMA fan. 🤗 What a wonderful opportunity, thank you for sharing. Umanation!
Being a US navy veteran, I was quite impressed with the launch and recovery of the small boat during the MOB drill. Definitely a testament to their "training" "training" "training".
When an aircraft ditched on launching from the new aircraft carrier Queen Elizabeth, the rescue boat was launched in half the time of the normal drill practice time. The training paid off big time. They actually weren't needed. The pilot after ejecting landed with his parachute hooked on a lighting pole on the front of the ship. Quick thinking deck crew dragged him onboard before he slid down the ship's bow.
I haven't slept for about 36 hours. That brings up memories,,,,,
Tonight it was "Don't buy a couch"
And in my mind I heard "Hey Soul Sister" and that has been your sailing song ever since.
What a wonderful couple. The episode that caught my breath, that slowed my heart, was when he decided to ride out one of the worst hurricanes to hit the west indies in recent memory.
His strength, your beauty, His forethought, your instinct, his eyes on you,,,,,,,your eyes on him.
Possibly the best "Like" I've ever clicked.
Great to see the RN looking after you so well and great episode!
Looking forward to the next installment but in the meantime don't accept a beer without checking for that shilling in the bottom first! 😉
BZ guys!
Also be careful if anyone offers to show you "the golden rivet ".
We are thinking the Captain is a Uma fan. It was very interesting and enjoyable. Thank You for taking us along. Safe travels.
If I could give you 2 thumbs up I would. Love this content.
Once in a lifetime experience I’d have to say really cool
Giant coup for Sailing Uma. Will be hard for the others to beat that 👍
OMG..I spent a week on board ALBION as my son is a petty officer there.. so jealous of you guys..
On the scale of awesomeness, this is off scale. :-)
I'm ex RN, really great to see that you have been given the opportunity to stay aboard for a couple of days and observe some of the ships daily operations. I have to say the accommodation you had onboard is somewhat different to what I remember!!! 😀 (I'm not jealous at all 😉). What a terrific experience for you guys...
Pretty much everything you guys publish is cool, but that was epic.
The Royal Navy is on a PR campaign and are recruiting more than they have in the last decades. With two new carriers there's a lot of sailors needed.
@Michael Pezzullo I think the many unemployed young criminals should be drafted
Dang!! You guys got the VIP treatment for real! What an experience.

“It’s a ship, baby.”
“Whose ship is this?”
“It’s Fred’s.”
“Who’s Fred?”
“Fred’s dead, baby. Fred’s dead.”
A great big shout out to the British Royal Navy, thank you for allowing us to see you in action.

That's freaking amazing… I'm retired military and I've never heard of youtube celebs being invited on a royal navy ship like this. You guys are incredibly lucky and should feel special!
Oh No! You've been kidnapped by the Pixelated Pirates! hehe And Kika, they didn't seem to have the proper sized flotation harness for you. You must not meet RN specs! : - ) Scott W
What an honour, so jealous! Annette and I had Sunday lunch on HMS Bristol many years ago but you have been really feted, and the Navy know how to look after guests. Looking forward to Chapter 2.
Very nice video, interesting, thank you. As a matter of interest, How long did the MOB operation take, from overboard to retrieval.
Fantastic adventure :-) That is very, very rare. It's awesome that you were allowed to video all of that... I can't imagine what will be in your next episode... Looking forward to it... Oh! I'm a new subscriber... :-)
What was the backstory on how you got invited on board the Royal Navy ship? Very nice job on filming and editing ...
You’ll just have to wait until next week ;) and by that I mean Thursday or Friday when we get the next episode finished.
Invited to a Navy ship, but not allowed to be in the Schengenspace for a year ........ stupid laws here
@@SailingUma I cannot wait to hear how in the hell you scored this Royal treatment. My wife and I once got to sail for 2 days on the USS Enterprise, but we had to sleep in the racks with the rest of the sailors - packed in like sardines. We are so jealous! :-)
Have you investigated "Seaman's book"? The big selling point of having a Seaman's Book, comes when it is presented by a person who would ordinarily require a visa to enter the country. If the seaman can show that he is joining or leaving a vessel then the border official can waive the visa requirement.
@@olafk2297 Thats exactly what i had on my mind. But I think the laws are oke, the problem is the system that kills a self thinking and judgement mentality of the people in charge off the stamp.
I spent 20 years in the US Navy and served 3 1/2 years on a Landing Ship Dock (USS Anchorage LSD-36) so I'm quite familiar with the type of ship you are visiting. Glad you are enjoying the stay, they obviously treated you guys like VIPs. I might mention my accommodations weren't so luxurious. Looking forward to seeing part 2.
Ok now you guys where are you?? This has been too long. If I have to send the uss Ronald Reagan to find you I will. The Royal Navy cant have you. So what happened starting to worry
Well we were wondering how you would get your visa extended....
When you make the best, I repete - the BEST, sailing reports on you tube - and on top of that is a very likeable couple of course you get an invitation to The Royal Navy! Look forward to next chapter. :-)
Of course the Captain moved out of his cabin to important guests, that's been normal for hundreds of years.
Not in any other countries though. Can you imagine a Yank Captain doing that?
Now this an adventure! Only could Sailing Uma do something like this! Bravo! By the way not a Battleship.
Well you just turned this sailing channel up a notch!!!
What happened? Did the navy abduct them? They never miss an episode. It’s been 2 weeks.
😂😂😂😂😂
In these days of equal ops, they should also have a female dummy for overboard drills. They could call her Eileen Dover.
Props to our awesome Royal Navy, you guys rock! \m/
Not allowed to call them dummies anymore. Simulated casualty" 😂
There is a female version, she is called Ruth Overboard, the wife of Fred Overboard
This story has to begin with....."So we were just down the pub and then..."
OK, it's official, I'm jealous....
this said, I must admit it's one of my favorite episode. You managed it the best way it should be managed.
The video editing is stunning, the music is perfect, the comments are at the right time with the right content...
There's nothing left to National Geographic or to Discovery Channel, you nailed them
For that, thanks and Cheers
Great Job on filming the action. Nice to see how things are done on UK ship.
Typically the army of any country is a rigid organization detached from today’s world.
Congratulations to the Royal Navy and it’s leadership for leading the way in adopting cutting edge methods of communication, and showing the world how a modern military organization should “blend” with global audiences in the 21st century.
Only the British can do that. Bravo!
As a US Navy sailor, I can tell you that you have no idea what your accommodations are equal to. You are staying in quarters that a Captain or Admiral would be accommodated with. 90 percent of every enlisted sailor will never even see the interior of where you stay. Not saying you guys aren't appreciative, but I don't think you realize how taken care of you were. Amazing video, clad you guys were able to experience it.
It really is something to go on military maneuvers and experience live fire practice. The noise is scary unreal. Bone shaking loud.
@Richard Crook LOL - I also noticed that -looked like there was also steam, but could have been just warm water and cold air (seeing as everyone was bundled up).
That looks a lot like a US Navy LPD. I imagine it has similar capabilities as well.
Also, you guys were staying in the flag officer's quarters. Pretty fancy and that absolutely would not happen on a US Navy ship.
I was invited as an American civilian to make a passage on a US nuclear submarine from Hawaii to San Diego on board Hawkbill by the captain. That is suppose to not ever happen either.
USN ship are smaller and more efficient like the RFA bay class, but the albion class can carry more
Wow! What a great episode. I think RN enlistment just went up.
That was a neat episode. You guys must really rate to get flag accommodations.
Awesome powerful ship, you guys are experiencing something most of us only dream about. Great informative video and great editing.
You two seem to be able to get yourselves into the not so ordinary situations. Rather amazing. Really cool stuff.
Hey guys awesome you got to do that with one of the finest Navys on THE Planet. Im from London living in Southern California and my son is in the US Navy based in San Diego. I have crossed the Pacific twice both times from Honolulu to San Diego once on the Nimitz Aircraft Carrier and second on a marine Deployment Ship. It was the most amazing experience of my life. They invite parents of service women and men coming back from Deployment to travel the final leg. Its called a Tiger Cruise. Best wishes to you both cheers.
In the US Navy the man overboard dummy is called Oscar and on my first ship we had a gunner's mate from some backwoods State standing shark watch. His job was to shoot any sharks that got close to the the person who was in the water. One day a junior officer ran up to the gunner during a man overboard drill and screamed "There's a shark in the water what do you do?!" The gunner's mate dropped the rifle down from his shoulder, took a split second to aim, and from well over forty yards shot Oscar right between the eyes. He turned to the Ensign and said "Now that poor dumb bastard doesn't have to worry about that shark sir!". True story, and even though it happened well over thirty years ago thinking about it still brings a smile to my face.
You guys have WAY too much fun!!! :)
Completely unexpected! The difference between a boat and a ship is that you can put a boat on a ship, but not the other way around. Yea, that is a SHIP! Scott W
(I just put this comment back up since not only did the likes go away, but also all the comments!)
Except when talking about a sub...which is a boat.
That is a good definition. Personally a ship that is not my own I will always call a ship. Calling other peoples ships "boats" can be perceived as being rude. This one I would call a vessel :-)
@@Ron-df1mp I think there are ships large enough that you could put a submarine on them. How you might get it on the ship is another matter! lol
@@scyz2807 floating dry docks or "sub tenders". They sink enough for the sub to sail in and then purge all the water out.

It would be rude to suggest favours were swapped in the traditional manner in Portsmouth taverns, wouldn't it?
(I honestly don't think there is the remotest possibility but it does sound like a scene from a 1970's Benny Hill comedy - with the RN sailor being Benny obvs. Sorry, feller, if you are reading this)

If we were talking about mowing a lawn we would say 'grass' not Lolium perenne, Festuca rubra or Agrostis capillaris.
@K.M. Haswell as I said in my post and I will say to you people call this a battle Ship ,see the space between. It's like calling the us invasion of Afghanistan a war it's not it's a political/power play and history repeats itself lol

I can understand how after a small boat this seems big but its not a battle ship, one of those would leave you gob smacked they are huge, regretfully the U.K. no longer has a battleship, the last one being scrapped many years ago..
None the less disapline and planning is still much the same, the bigest ship i served on was the original Ark Royal air craft carrier during the sixties which had close to two thousand people on board.
Hope you enjoyed your trip.
How on earth did you'se wangle that? :-o
Boat based boot necks with their faces pixelated, over stating their importance one thinks. If you really want to know who they are they will be the ones wearing sunglasses in Plymouth at midnight.

Did they kidnap you guys? Haven't seen a video for two weeks.
Excellent video - GREAT EDITING!
My only comment is that this is not a battleship, regardless of the number of times that you said it was. Just because it is a big warship does not make it a battleship. A battleship is an actual class of vessel with certain criteria that are not being met here. What you are doing here is like claiming Uma is trimaran. Yes they are both vessels afloat upon the sea, but there are some very important differences.
HMS Albion is paired with my hometown of Chester!
Also, a bit disconcerting that all the dummies are called Fred....

In the Canadian Navy the dummys are called Oscar, because hoisting flag "Oscar" signals a man overboard.
Chester, Nova Scotia?
@@danagovang2520 Same in the US Navy. the XO would always throw Oscar over the side just outside New York Harbor.... not cool, as soon as we started blowing our horn I would see some ship turn towards us. Good to know sailors help sailors, but if you keep yelling wolf....

Yes, I noticed.
Why did you think they showed us their MOB drill? Obviously it’s To remind us what would happen if we dare call it a battleship one more time! 😂😂😂

A boat can be carried by a ship. A ship cannot be carried by a boat. The exception to the term is a submarine. 22 year ex RN vet!!
Good god how on earth did you manage to get this gig?!?!?! Absolutely amazing and can’t imagine a better team to document it
Pretty cool! As a part-time military member, I recognized that "writing style" immediately. The official letter you got is in fact a memorandum, used for internal communications in the military. The paragraphs are numbered so they can be easily referenced, and the text is written using short, concise sentences that go straight to the point and avoid ambiguity as much as possible. It's pretty weird to write at first, but once you get used to it, it's really efficient.
