I'm a product of a 19 year old single mom and a 23 year old absentee father. Raised in the pj's (projects). Both are dead now R.I.P but because of what I've seen at a young age I chose to rise above my circumstances. I'm a first generation college graduate. Psychology major currently working as a social worker and going to school to get my master's degree so I can be a licensed counselor. I'm on a mission to save other kids in the pj's.im living proof there's light at the end of a dark tunnel. Rest in Power Tupac. You guy's eaction was dope by the way 😁!

Afeni Shakur, Tupac's mother was one of the Black Panthers. She actually died in 2016, so she passed away 20 years or so after Tupac, and was alive to appreciate the song.

Rose Girl Thank you for talking about Afeni Shakur. It was because of her Tupac was the man he was. Tupac was so far ahead of his time because of her and the people and experiences she exposed him to. He will always be a God in the hip hop / rap world.

Helpful to know that Afeni Shakur was a Black Panther that was charged with a crimes as a way to attack the party when she was pregnant with Tupac. After the destruction of the party she fell into drug abuse. Tupac’s Mom and dad were alive throughout his life though he didn’t have much of a relationship with his father. Afeni was a symbol of black power and a racist stereotype being a single mom on welfare , drug addict yet regardless she deserves praise and honor because she was a loving mom.

Robinson Bc Is this sarcasm?? I'm gonna assume it is, because these guys literally think there are only three roads out of the ghetto....hip hop, drugs or basketball. Now, I get that they're trying. I give them credit for that. But open-minded they are not. They seem to have a lot of trouble relating to people who aren't in their socioeconomic bracket.

    • @meagainstthewrld606
      @meagainstthewrld606 5 років тому +1

@@bipolarbear9952 the only prejudice is coming from YOU towards them. Read these lyrics by Biggie which you can hear many iterations of in the earliest HIP-HOP up until present day.
"If I wasn't in the rap game
I'd probably have a key knee-deep in the crack game
Because the streets is a short stop
Either you're slinging crack rock or you got a wicked jump shot
Shit, it's hard being young from the slums
Eating 5 cent gums, not knowing where your meal's coming from
And now the shit's getting crazier and major
Kids younger than me, they got the Sky brand pagers
Going out of town, blowing up
Six months later, all the dead bodies showing up
It make me wanna grab the 9 and the shotty
But I gotta go identify the body
Damn, what happened to the summertime cookouts
Every time I turn around, a nigga getting took out
Shit, my Momma got cancer in her breast
Don't ask me why I'm motherfucking stressed, things done changed"
I knew and worked with both BIG and PAC, knew Pac since we were teenagers and come from the same environment he is originally from as a child. I found the commentary of this video to be very perceptive and on point. They come off as understanding something alien to them with a welcoming open mindedness I appreciate given the social climate of today.
Perception says more about the character of the one who perceives than it does the object of perception.
My being the object of their perception I can sternly say, YOU STAND CORRECTED✌🏾

RDO made a really good point at around 9:26, you said that these lyrics are relatable to most people. Universal themes like this are part of why I think 2pac was so successful. 2Pac didn’t want to song about his mom and single mothers with some super aggressive complicated style. It just a tribute song for sure like you guys pointed out. And his mother outlived him. She took care of his legacy until she passes away a few years ago. But if you want more aggressive 2Pac songs there it there haha. Check out Hit em Up or Two of America’s most Wanted.
But this song is a great example of the versatility of PAC and his story telling abilities

Btw, you can't really judge an artist off of one song. You guys should pick (at least) a handful of songs for each of the artists you react to. Tupac is an artist whose style changes from song to song and even from album to album. This song isn't one of his most lyrical and certainly not the most aggressive song he's made. This song is monotonous but fits
his particular purpose at that moment. :)

  • @andy1181-l3m

Tupac wasnt much of a lyricist...he wasnt trying to do metaphors and make his rhymes all fancy and lyrical. He got to the point to make you feel and understand what he was trying to say. Most of his music is like that and thats what most people love about him. I like lyrical rap too dont get me wrong but Tupac is something else. When i listen to Pac, it feels like he’s sitting next to me talking to me directly. Nobody else has ever done that. His words touch your soul and you can tell songs like this really came from his heart! This is a true story and as a grown man that has heard this song a million times, my eyes still water up. Thank you for taking the time to listen to Tupac!

Tupacs mom was alive when he made the song she was in the music video in the beginning that was her speaking. And guy to the left you're right most of everyone can appreciate certain aspects of dear mama because most of everyone loves their mother and feels the same way no matter what race or where you're from.

From Brenda's got a baby and Dear Moma to Hit em Up, to So Many Tears, and Picture me rolling. Keep it up guys. BTW, his Mother was an original Black Panther, that's why she was in jail and what gave him his political grounding.

Dont be afraid of the blonde guy insulting people, he is a gem and should be allowed to say whatever he wants because he comes off as genuinly good person, Dark haired dude a little less so. Tupac's mom Afeni is worth Wikipediaing herself as far as her involvement with the Black Panther party and her eventual arrest. Tupac, and perhaps that means Dr. Dre is responsible for laying the blueprint for a lot of Rap albums after this one. Everyone had a Mama song after Tupac and everyone had a dance track and a soft track. Keep em coming these are a real joy to watch.

I don't know how UA-cam brought me to this video but after watching I appreciate what you two are doing. To help add some perspective to one question/observation you had, people coming from the more impoverished neighborhoods in urban America are initially trying to be hard working, educated citizens in this country. Because of the various hindrances in the system since slavery "ended" it has been a more difficult road for many. You are taught that the streets only lead you to death or prison but when you are struggling as a family to make ends meet, some feel a "by any means necessary" approach is the best or only route because you mainly see violence, drugs, prostitution, gangs, and fast money and you just want to get out. It's literally survival and unfortunately many of us from these areas don't see the benefit of education during our school years because of these struggles. So any talent that can be seen as quickly as possible we try to cultivate as much as possible so for many it does seem that the only options are selling drugs/illegal street activity or playing a sport professionally or entertainment. Although there are many that do make it out of these conditions through education to live successful lives in their fields, because statistically it is said many from these conditions won't live past the 16-18 year old range, many can't see themselves going this route and ignore the examples of those who made it out through education because of those likelihoods. The feeling of hope being replaced by hopelessness and so just do whatever to live as well as possible for today. Good job on the video

Since Metalheads are known to be elitists; then I'm positive that you can appreciate music created by artists recognized as elites among the Hip-Hop genre's most poetical, lyrical, and metaphysical Emcees. I'm speaking of the duo formerly known as Black Star (Talib Kweli & Mos Def) and Common. All three are now all solo artists, but they collaborated to create the platinum single, 'Respiration'. Please do a video on this masterpiece and I'm sure that individuals of your high caliber of taste; won't regret it.

Grimby has an impressive Rap IQ for little knowledge of any catalog. To identify rhyme schemes and vocal inflections is a very honorable trait to have as a music lover. To no surprise, Tupac Shakur is well known for his passionate vocal inflections that seem organic and heartfelt.
