Armin Grewe ...... normally two or three appliances are sent to a chip pan fire in the UK. So, along with port Ellen's Volunteer Support Unit shown turning out in this clip, perhaps Bowmore's retained Rescue Pump was sent. It's also likely that volunteer Port Charlotte's Rapid Response Unit was mobilised too, that'd be all three of the island's stations responding, assuming of course, the others were both available.

As per the other reply - chip pan fires can easily develop into full blown house fires so Port Ellen was backup - in the event I saw them returning some 15 minutes later, presumably having been stood down on route

@@lewmar321sco ..... I know because I know of all the volunteer fire stations in the UK. Just like retained firefighters, volunteers drop everything when called to the station by pager, they don their fire kit, they race to the scene, they put out the flames and they save lives. Yet they do it for nothing, for free, for zilch, for nowt, for bugger all... They do it as a duty and a responsibility, and are therfore the biggest heroes amongst the fire service. Firefighters are all heroes; volunteers are super heroes.

VIPCrafter....... retained firefighters respond from home or work 24/7, and get paid at the same rate as wholetime (career) firefighters for the work they do and for the hours they attend. Volunteer firefighters respond from home or work 24 hours a day too, but they don't get paid ANYTHING. They do it because of their love of the community they live in, and a loyalty to serve their friends and neighbours. Proper heroes. But you're from Germany, so you know all about hero volunteers.....

Merseyside trialled one of those Mercedes light pumps it was an absolute lemon, underpowered and poor handling. They sold it to Cheshire and they repurposed it as a rapid response motorway rescue unit.

This particular one was born in 2001.

That was registered in 2001. They are slowly getting replaced with new ones, but the old ones have the advantage of basically being too simple to go wrong. There's almost no electronics in it, nothing to fiddle with, nothing to start sulking because the battery is a little low - just turn the key and it'll clatter into life.
They're every bit as capable as the new ones, they're just a bit less fuel-efficient and a lot louder - you barely need the siren with all that Mercedes metal-on-metal clattering!
That one is showing on the DVLA website as having had a logbook issued on the 21st of December 2023, so it's probably been de-fleeted and sold.
