"With vision comes responsibility!" How powerful is that?
Thank you Ali!
Excellent talk. I use it in my Intercultural Communication teaching.
You are lost without remembering who you are. What inspiring words! Well said Ali.
Understanding + Appreciation= Acceptance. Brilliant Truth

What a powerful, brilliant talk! Ali, you said it best! A talk I will gladly share with many people!
Mashallah what an incredible and insightful talk...shokrun for being so open and honest
Wow ! first person I have heard on "Cultural Intelligence" in my 6 yrs of journey in UAE. Great, thanks for your this delivery.
Amazing video! Wish I was here
As an Emirati, I would say I finally found a person who feels and realize like me .. keep it up man !!
Well Said!!! I enjoyed it very much and I must say I thought it was very strange when I first came her that very few people Say As salaamu alaikum to you. When in America Muslims ALWAYS give each other the greeting. But then I figured maybe theres just to many muslims here you'd be salamming all day. But I still give salaams to women :)
Hi Ali, I just watched your video. Thank you so much for giving such a deep message regarding cultural identity.
Great awakening.Great going Ali, it was a eye opener for me
Such a great cultural intro to UAE! Loved it! Thanx @TEDx and @AliAlsaloom :)
It's a very important topic, this one regarding cultural differences and identity in a multicultural world. I appreciate you taking the time to elaborate- however, I was a bit confused by the gorilla- guerrilla story, because I didn't see what it had to do with the topic. Nonetheless, thank you for speaking about this matter. Could you do more videos about this issue? It would be interesting to see the perspective at the present time.
thumbs up bro, acceptance is the key to prosperity
This guy is hilarious and very charismatic.
"drawing that line" Well said Ali!
well said ... well done
Mashallah great bro !!!
thats so inspiring..
Great presentation Ali Alsaloom. I am impressed, as an Arab woman myself living in Sweden, I see people who are trying to do the same, but most are stuck in a vicious circle, so they end up drawn to the two extremes: Islamic fundamentalism or drug addiction and criminal activities.
I have yet to see a normal Arab in europe!
Awesome
gives me hope
Awesome man
Watching in 2018 :)
What a great speech!
is he still alive, or...?
Ridiculous- "ahmed will you gas my car at 12 noon", Essa "will you press my clothes", you do realize that the expats deserve the credit where its Due (in any given sector, beyond the domestic chores that were made mention of) and in return the locals are entitled to being treated as our hosts. Ignorance permeates and erodes relationships. To each their own, everything has a way of balancing itself. Ps: This coming from an expat that was born and raised in the country, so much so, I have the UAE emblem tattooed to my shoulder
Ab Nayr it's sad that you didn't get his point !
This is my dad
Westerners do not understand why Emarati people come late to meetings. Westerners hear the phrase (inshallah) and they conotate it to being alittle late. It is very usual to be late as an Arab or an Emarati. I am not saying that as a bad thing, but this is the reality of things in the UAE and most Gulf countries.
if Ali Saloom felt confortable on is own values and culture he wouldn't had to give all this explanations. just stay in your county and feel free with your skin!
I was really impressed by this video but I have a question
Why the lecturer uses English while he is talking about respecting our values and heritage . Isn't language part of our values and culture ?
They coming for the money.
Your country us gonna be conquered in a different way and end up like Singapore, I do not find it strange to see a new non Arab country called Dubai inside Emirates.
Well, theres an argument for staying in the stone age.
well amazing talk but since u been talking about identity and culture then WHY u spoke in ENGLISH hence your message for Arabs nation
english is your main language, isn't it?
Very opinionated. A* presentation. Keep it going!
what you saying is great :)) ,, but why don't you speak in Arabic !! with your own culture !
have you seen the audience, usually ted talks are given in English especially fi the attending audience is of many backgrounds, and whether he speaks in Arabic English, french or even Hungarian, it does not dilute the importance and value of his message.
How about treating your guests workers from less developed countries with more respect. There are many reports of abuse and especially sexual abuse of foreign domestic workers.
So it is racist..like what I have thought. Why can't Emiratis and Iraquis get along?
