  • Jerry West, Elgin Baylor, and Wilt Chamberlain formed the NBA’s first super team in 1969 with the Los Angeles Lakers. They were going to be scary good for the rest of the NBA.     Glad I happened upon this masterclass in Lakers basketball history. A comparable recent NBA trio that comes to mind is the infamous OKC trio of Durant, Harden and Westbrook, not withstanding the relative youthfulness of the Thunder gunslingers!!!

      They made it to the the finals 3 out of 5 years while winning one of them. They were not too old.

      Wilt wasnt that old at all...he refused to share the paint with elgin baylor they didnt get along off the court and couldnt gel on it and with a 3-2series lead wilt went 1-5from the field for 8pts in gsme 6...the fact is wilt came up small when it mattered most many times over the course of his career...he played with just as many hofers as russell did over the course of eachs career yet won 2 times compsred to russells 11. Wilt often didnt understand and wasnt consistently willing to do what it took2win.
