I might be looking too much into this video but to me, it seems Alex in the video represents some sort of mental illness such as anxiety and/or depression. The way Alex slowly starts to become the more dominant force within the video could portray how things like depression slowly start to seep into peoples lives; at first, it could be almost unnoticeable demonstrated in how at first Alex comes across as friendly but over time starts to cause pain in Declan's life making him withdraw, stop eating, stop doing the things he loves such as reading, etc all of which are presented within the video. As it becomes more and more dominant its as if Declan tries to fight it off but ultimately, in the end, ends up loosing and becoming a shadow of his former self, presented at the end with Declan being in the reflection instead of Alex.

i feel like this is an interpretation of declans personality manifested into another human deciding what decisions he should make and not really giving him a choice in the matter. some examples i noticed of that were when alex refused to let him turn the page-possibly exploring an idea saying he’s too afraid to find out the ending of the book. It could go a lot of ways but towards the end he no longer sleeps on the bed when you see him flipping “himself” off because he’s now lost control of who he is. nodding to the fact he gets beaten up bc he’s holding inner angst towards himself and wants to potentially rid whatever’s causing the internal issue.
I always thought the song & the video tell the story of the person they want you to be as you get older vs the person you really are, and how you 'lose' yourself in the process of growing up. Just my view of it. Superb song also.
Okay if I’m right at the beginning of the this video Alex was helping you and you were helping him. Then as time went by, Alex started to turn against you (Dec). Almost like an alter ego of some sorts. Like negativity that can arise in everyday life-like you’re getting in your own way of being happy not on purpose. Then you tried battling for your happiness again but the negativity battles back. Then at the end you give in. And instead of you (Dec) looking back at him (Alex), he was looking at you. So this could represent the struggle of not only being an entertainer, a very talented one at that. But just the demons we all battle, every single day. One day they comply and we coexist peacefully. Other days were at war with ourselves. Edit: Also at the end, the beginning Beautiful faces starts playing and that song is about dealing with not wanting to deal with people. Like the best Antisocial anthem ever in a way. So maybe that could play a big part in the storyline throughout the whole album. I could be completely wrong but I love you Dec this is an amazing song. 💕
it also like the concept of the shadow and the self, basically every human have shadow hid underneath and whether or not we want to acknowledge it, it is our inner desires, the side that we repressed within our self that need to be expressed and accepted once in a while. i like that more people starting to acknowledge it and applied it into an art form, like what declan did here. if anyone is interested by this stuff, i suggest looking for carl jung theory about jungian archetype and individuation it's a very interesting theory

i feel like this is an interpretation of declans personality manifested into another human deciding what decisions he should make and not really giving him a choice in the matter. some examples i noticed of that were when alex refused to let him turn the page-possibly exploring an idea saying he’s too afraid to find out the ending of the book. It could go a lot of ways but towards the end he no longer sleeps on the bed when you see him flipping “himself” off because he’s now lost control of who he is. nodding to the fact he gets beaten up bc he’s holding inner angst towards himself and wants to potentially rid whatever’s causing the internal issue.

but went on this entire Alex Lawther rabbit hole and found a new favorite show
Okay if I’m right at the beginning of the this video Alex was helping you and you were helping him. Then as time went by, Alex started to turn against you (Dec). Almost like an alter ego of some sorts. Like negativity that can arise in everyday life-like you’re getting in your own way of being happy not on purpose. Then you tried battling for your happiness again but the negativity battles back. Then at the end you give in. And instead of you (Dec) looking back at him (Alex), he was looking at you. So this could represent the struggle of not only being an entertainer, a very talented one at that. But just the demons we all battle, every single day. One day they comply and we coexist peacefully. Other days were at war with ourselves.
Edit: Also at the end, the beginning Beautiful faces starts playing and that song is about dealing with not wanting to deal with people. Like the best Antisocial anthem ever in a way. So maybe that could play a big part in the storyline throughout the whole album.

it also like the concept of the shadow and the self, basically every human have shadow hid underneath and whether or not we want to acknowledge it, it is our inner desires, the side that we repressed within our self that need to be expressed and accepted once in a while. i like that more people starting to acknowledge it and applied it into an art form, like what declan did here. if anyone is interested by this stuff, i suggest looking for carl jung theory about jungian archetype and individuation it's a very interesting theory
