- The Danny, a twin-screw steam tug built for the Manchester Ship Canal was restored to working condition over the past few years, and now is ready for passenger service. The River Weaver hasn't seen traffic like this for awhile, so some dredging is needed to get the tug through, but unfortunately wasn't quite finished. It's all good though, as the Canal and River Trust tug pulls the Danny over the silt bar, and she completes her journey, joining the Steam Tug Kerne, to the Little Leigh Steam Gathering.
Stunning boat. Great to see it back in service. Thanks for sharing.
I used to see this boat regularly on the Ship Canal waterways...i worked at Burmah Oil on the canalside at Trafford Park., Manchester..and she was always running up & down the waterways...what a great nudge for the memory-bank....thank you...
Great video, thanks for capturing the historic trip as you well as you did.
Was a challenge to get her up there but well worth it.
Pumping a bunch of silt through the condensers.
The shots from the engine room can only be described as 'lovingly restored'. Leaving the locks, the sand bar or silt bar as you called it did get a bit in the way, but after redistributing the cargo forward, and getting some pull, the screws certainly tried to carve a deeper draft channel. Love the steam whistle, thanks for sharing.
Great video, many thanks for sharing.
thanks mike for a cracking film with a positive attitude. The trip up the Weaver is certainly not the easiest but worth all the effort to be at the steam party. We are all very proud to have got where we are now and hope to be up the Weaver several times next year. Please try to join us at some stage. John Goodier
I used to follow a website call Irish Sea Shipping that had regular updates on the Daniel. I have a passing interest in ships especially steam ones. I have been out of the loop for a while now. Nice to see her moving under her own steam.
The guy who used to run the Irishseashipping.com website and founder DAPS member, John Luxton was aboard for the trip that day!
Dan Cross That's the fella. I miss his website. I will have to get back to the sea. I missing me ships........ :)
I was at the steam show, lovely weather and great fun.
Very very cool! Shame about the dredging but at least all went well in the end..
great day. Big thanks to M/T BROCKLEBANK Crew for all their help since leaving dry dock
Loved it👏😁👍
She's a big ship !
The narrow boats at 11.00 look like toys.
How powerful is the engine in this Tug. There seems to be nothing about it on Google and I really want to know.

Lot of weird whistle signals?
I would love to ride on it.
Randys FiftySevenChevy if you want to then go to liverpool albert docks or the sutton weaver ots there all the time
What is the black liquid that pours out on the starboard side of the tug?
I presume you mean the muddy water thats being brought up from the bottom of the canal, getting sucked through the engine, and auxiliary pumps.

Yes it is muddy water, it is drawn in as cooling water for the condensers but we sucked the river bed up as well!
Somebody flushed the loo.
Well that got a bit sticky. Lovely boat though.
y would not be so happy whit this muck going trough the condensor and pumps.... no mantenance on these canals??
As you can see - they are doing some dredging, but there isn't the amount that there should be.
Ya not a long time ago i went on a school trip onto the danny and there was actially mud in the condensors and the pump
SHE IS A GROUND TWICE IN 3 X THE LENEGHT???????
ПРОПОЛЗ!!!
A lot of fanny with danny.
