- Tier lists are always popular right? And I haven't dropped one in time. So today we'll be looking at the 2020 F1 Team Bosses/Principals, ranking them in my very own tier list. Agree, disagree, let me know down in the comments below.

I think it's unfair to put Horner in Decent. He lead Red Bull to 4 constructors and drivers championships which is something only 2 people in this list have been able to. Personally, I think any team principal that has lead a team to winning a championship deserves to be in the Iconic tier. Even though Red Bull struggled after 2014, you have to admit they recovered quite well. Hopefully Albon can match Verstappen really soon so that Red Bull can finally properly challenge the title.
Yeah, rating Otmar above Horner as well is a bit unfair. Yeah I know that RP don’t have the resources but still, 4 double world championships in a row is defo iconic

I would put horner as iconic. I think he will be remembered for many years for the red bull rise to dominance and managing vettel and verstappen
Iconic: Wolf, Horner
Decent: Seidl, Szafnauer
Not Bad: Steiner, Vasseur, Tost
Eh: Williams, Abiteaboul
Fired: Binnotto
Wolf and Horner, from 2010-2019 there was 10 championships between them, pretty iconic to me
Seidl and Szaufnauer what they've done has been quite remarkable, especially Seidl in the short time he has ran McLaren and I think both of these will become Iconic, as McLaren and Racing Point are definitely on the up, closing the gap, just not yet, but I say soon
Steiner and Vasseur have shown good, considering where HAAS are the only new team (avoiding Renault) to stick in since Force India and Sauber where in a deep whole in 2017, and Vasseur went straight into the whole and pulled them back out. The issue comes in the form that 2019 and 2020 haven't been that successful for either. Tost, Toro Rosso where never built to be a front running so I don't he could ever be anymore than where he is.
Claire, 2014-2017 where good, but whatever happened after 2017, its not good is it. I think a major fault goes to not getting a proper replacement for Felipe Massa, Stroll and Sirotkin didn't know what they wanted, and then getting a whole new line up for 2019 when your already in shit, again with two drivers unknown to current F1.
Abiteaboul, Lotus where in the sport from 2011 or 12 to 15. They got wins and poles in 12 and 13, think podiums in 11. And podium in 15. Renault took over in 2016, they have had 0 podiums, 0 poles. And honestly I think a bit of the issue is the attitude of Renault.
And Binnotto, Kimi has openly stated he races as a hobby, no more than that, and he was overtaking Ferrari, you know the team that Kimi was getting poles and winning race in 2018. Alfa have the same engine, and just the weekend prior, where the slowest car😬

was going to hate, but read the whole thing, glad that I did. Renault and Williams have had a similar demise. The tiers aren't that good either. There should be one between decent and iconic, and put Seidl and Szafnauer in there, they are great team principals.

Love him or hate him, he's iconic. Some will say he's iconic due to his spectacular results and the way he brought a low midfield team on to become four times WCC, others will say he's iconically cringe-inducing because of how he loves to amuse himself by creating chaos in the paddock whenever he wants. I mean, I like him. I also understand 300% why many people don't. The point is that he's very very very good at his job, but he's also amazing at being the guy everyone likes to hate (he and -Bond villain- Dr. Marko), which renders him iconically good or iconically bad, but still iconic nevertheless.

Horner is a former (Joke of) a Driver who BARELY won his championship, thanks to a genious like Newey and the s...t load of cash pulled in by Matjesic. On top of that he and his buddy, burned up and screwed up severaly their own driver for god knows what reason, apart maybe sponsorship or their own stupidity. Webber: burnt, Vettel ? Thrown away after several wins, Ricciardo, prolly the best driver they ever had ? Screwed up to make room for a brat rookie that will never want an equal status team-mate able to threat him (that means saying bye to the team champ until 2023). If i were R.B owner I would have those goofs axed out since the last race of 2010. That complete screw-up strategy in favour of the driver with LESS point in the last race was a s**tshow that got lucky only because the only other team still capable to win was ran by Domenicali, a complete clown far less worst of them both. "Ottmar" on the other hand, managed to reach civil performance in an underfunded team built on the ashes of Jordan racing's death; He's now, piece by piece, dragging in sponsors (take a look at what BWT is), Stroll's Money and Aston Martin while constantly improving the performance. Not bad for a team that was supposed to be shut out due to lack of finances in 2017.

I think the rating goes beyond F1 for Andreas. His sports car work with Porsche is the most notable work from him. He lead Porsche to their domination of Le Mans!
Just look at porsche in WEC though. Andreas smashed it and will do the same with McLaren for sure.

I’m genuinely surprised that Gene Haas is keeping Guenther. I figured they would part ways with him and at least one driver for next season as they re-up for five more years.

6:45 Totally agreed, Tommo. My big problem with Guenther is that he hasn't changed the driver lineup despite all of the issues that GRO and MAG have had in just keeping their cars on the road.
Nearly every other team outside of Merc have changed their lineups, generally for the better, but Haas has stayed with their two drivers for way too long.
And that's not to mention their apparent inability to improve the cars over the season -- that also falls at Guenther's feet.
I think roman can improve but he is a good driver

Totally agree on Gunther. From what I’ve seen, he doesn’t seem like a boss that inspires his team to do better.
Everything he does seems to come from a standpoint of self preservation and desire for control over his employees.
Every time I see them make a mistake, they seem concerned about how he’ll react; not frustrated with themselves. And I think that just comes down to how he’s failed to motivate them to demand more from themselves.

As much respect as Williams team deserves, their stupidity of "I'll build everything in-house" is what has made them suffer big time. If they sourced a few things from Mercedes like they finally are doing now, they would never even be in debt.
You've got be kidding me mate. Swap Horner with Seidl, the german barely got into F1. How can he be 'Iconic' when Horner, despite his annoying persona is a four time championship winner and neglected to the 'Decent' category? Also, Claire is nice to work for I'm sure and Mattia is a technical genius, both are absolute terrible TPs, they belong together if not deeper than Gunther in the depths of 'Fired'.
Other than that, good list in my books.

I normally like your tier lists but this one just feels low effort. When you don't go off of performance but instead off what you feel they have accomplished with their resources the results are biased in favor of the smaller teams. Saying Otmar and racing point have overachieved with their budget is clearly true but ranking him iconic is ludicrous, and placing Horner anything but top is heresy. You may be the only person in the world who doesn't like Horner enough to call him "decent" and I can't imagine why. I also feel the ranking for Seidl is generous. Sure his introduction has taken Mclaren to another level and in 10 years I can see him being an icon; but on such a small sample size his impact in the sport is rather small at this stage. Also if you are going to extrapolate Seidl's small sample size into projected success you have to then take Binotto's small sample size and project Ferrari's future which with Binotto is almost last. Final thoughts, from a channel normally making quality F1 content this tier lists seems more like "favorite f1 team principals video" and cannot at all claim any sort of realism.

If you were looking at this objectively and not from a personal view then Horner is iconic I'm sorry, he was put in the deep end when Redbull started and won 4 championships, plus the fact he's one of the current longest serving team principals on the grid constantly finishing comfortably above the rest, he's an f1 icon much like toto wolff

Unpopular opinion but I think Binotto is actually really good, he just took the brunt of what went wrong before him (poor aero, motor cheating, bad structure), the improvement in 2021 actually makes me think Binotto is better than we thought in fact
