The way Marina summarized all the happenings in our history and what’s happening right now in just one song is really unimaginable and beyond amazing. This song will surely fit in all generations.
"I'm not afraid of God; I am afraid of man." This particular lyric in the song interested me and stopped me in my tracks because there's so much craziness in the world today: the pandemic because certain people do not want to listen to science; the war in Ukraine, Iran's revolution. And some people are just killing each other in the name of their religion when it says not to.
And now Israel… don’t you find it so saddening, that we cling to religion to search for the hope and love we didn’t find in this world, yet somehow we still manage to taint the image of gods with our hatred for each other? Instead of gifting the sacred love amongst one another, the only reason faith exists in the first place, we spread death and destruction
I hope that all of the people who are suffering will find peace, but it’s so naive of me to believe that. Instead of forever waiting for some god to give their love to only their followers, how about we show love to one another instead? It would be utopian, but we are still animals, brutal, violent creatures, and this will never happen
That last line you typed "To save somebody's life and have it blow up in his face" is most likely a reference to when a lifeguard saved an unconscious drowning woman & was later accused of rape because he did not ask her if he was allowed to save her.
Darkness Nighthingale The Boston Marathon seriously impacted thousands of people and Boston felt like a dystopian city for a few days. I have friends who were at the marathon. My mother still cries over the people she knows who died or now suffer severe PTSD. It was a tragedy that now brings together the city. While the event you’re referring to definitely has something to teach us, please do not disrespect the Boston Marathon. As someone else previously said, both are horrible and impactful. Please have respect.

+bubblegum bitch I did an acoustic version of Savages at my school's talent show last year and the audience was dead silent you could tell it fucked them up. The leader of student council actually told me not to say "rape" the first night we performed but I did it anyways the second night and just looked into her eyes like "let Marina speak the truth" lol. Yeah this, Immortal, Blue, Solitaire are my favorites from FROOT.
"One man can build a bomb, the other run a race to save somebody's life and have it blow up in his face." Really good, clever way to tie two verses together when it seemed like they were going to go different directions.
*”I’m not afraid of God, I am afraid of Man.”* These lyrics hit the hardest during this Corona situation. It’s *people* putting politics and superstitions over actual science that are killing us. Humanity is screwed.
marina makes really good music. her pop music isn't generic in the lyrics. it isn't about love and parties, which are main topics, but rather about the truth of humankind. sadly the music on the radios want to make us dumb and happy and thinking of partying all the time. i love marina's realness, how she's raw and direct in a musical way. this is what makes a valuable and extraordinary artist, truly. god bless marina. i hope she never stops making music. p.s. it's sad i can't imagine any seriously popular radio channel to play this song. it's just too true. but i think they should!! people need to wake up and DO something!
Underneath it all, we're just cabbagesHidden behind dirt, flies, and radishesHow could we expect anything at allWe're just vegetables, still oh very small
The problem with this song is that its beat is fire and it makes you want to clap the booty, and then you remember that the subject matter is completely inappropriate to clap your booty to
Why I love Marina and the Diamonds is because she expresses the raw truth about human nature, revealing emotions and experiences that others often struggle to articulate.
Yea but the academy sold out years ago to popular records e.g. Idiots like taylor swift and Beyoncé who are praised for supporting this or that but behind it all they are both savages hidden behind ties and marriages lol
At least there is hope! In heavy metal! Person : What? Allow me to explain. Ever heard of a band called Sabaton? No? Of course not. because heavy metal is that satanist stuff of course! They are a band that make songs about literally anything with no bias to any sides. That even includes the rise of Hitler, the nazi heroes, 911(the original 911), people being executed for things they didn't do, heroes betrayed by those they protected & saved, the loss of 500000 men over the course of six months to take a mile of land, the last stands of legendary heroes of old & modern shit. They are known as : The border band!... Because they're music is it's own genre. It doesn't fit in with any genre in the music industry. (And there's none of that screamo crap either.)
-She is Welsh not English, and if she did go into eurovision(which I doubt she ever would since its kitsch and cheesy af) she would represent United Kingdom not England.-
***** ***** I'm going to have to enlighten you two. England does not enter Eurovision by itself, it enters as the United Kingdom, so with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. So Marina can represent the UK in Eurovision if she wanted to.
I cannot express my love and admiration for this song and artist with words. She's reinventing the pop genre. Instead of shallow lyrics about butts or money or whatever she writes about real problems in the world. The entertainment industry usually tries to distract us from what happens in the world but Marina does the exact opposite. I'm so glad people like her exist
The fact that Jason Cooper recorded the drums on this makes it even more amazing. Probably the closest thing i'll ever get to a MARINA x The Cure collaboration.

this song never stops being relevant
Listening to this song just after what happened in Paris yesterday makes me cry.
Yeah... But it happens everyday...😞
+sofielamy unfortunatelly you're so right :((
Joao Vítor it doesn't happen just in Paris. It's everywhere.
She is a modern prophet.
Don't disrespect her like that.
+Nacho Bidness Obvious and hollow statements don't make someone a prophet.
+Brett Stevens Nope but she's a good singer and a little less hollow than what we can expect from a pop singer.
Antonio rude
The way Marina summarized all the happenings in our history and what’s happening right now in just one song is really unimaginable and beyond amazing. This song will surely fit in all generations.
She makes me look at life differently. Appreciate it in some way.
This song is so relevant to everything going on today. Marina truly is an incredible writer.
I CAN'T, THIS SONG IS SO PERF THE LYRICS THE BEAT HER VOICE ITS LIKE EVERYTHING OMG
Hey, Rize!
Chigusa Hime Hey hey

Rize Kamishiro I'm not afraid of God, I am afraid of man... I believe she meant ghouls
This song is becoming popular again and I’m loving every moment. Sadly this song is relatable
"One man can build a bomb/ another run a race/ to save somebody's life/ and have it blow up in his face" shivers
Marina speaks so much fucking truth she's amazing.
"Are you killing for yourself or are you killing for your savior" well damn if that's not a deep lyric I don't know what is
I can't help but direct this lyric towards isis given the time of release
koopakiid16 it could be a possibility, considering a lot of the lyrics in this song are about things that have happen in America and the world
***** I agree with your comment, it took me two listens for me to really get what marina was singing about in this song
She was basically inspired from the Boston bombings
***** I KNOW RIGHT. MARINA IS A GENIUS. She is probably the most insightful artist of our generation and especially for pop music.
I love how marina has NEVER been cancelled and never will be shes sweet pretty and sings the truth without hiding it
why would she be cancelled, just curious to know
she hasnt been cancelled but also isnt innocent. shes done some questionable things.
@@toyafan i agree shes obviously said stuff in the wrong way but never that badly to the point of being cancelled

Savages, Solitaire and Froot are probably my faves on the album, they are spectacular songs. :P
I agree those 3 are my favourites too :)
Yay XD
Same! But I also really love Better Than That and Can't Pin Me Down.
BubbleWrap I love every song except for Gold, Immortal and Weeds. I do like those songs too but just not nearly as much as the others.
They are all freaking amazing cx love love love this new album

how does she make such bangers while also speaking out on serious issues at the same time?
I WANT THIS PLAYED AT MY WEDDING, MY CHILDS BIRTH, MY FUNERAL
You might be spreading the wrong message with this particular song at a wedding or child's birth
I agree with Addison, I don't think this is the type of song you'd play on your wedding/child's birth. xD
Katharine Camomot Yeah I didn't really know what the song was about until after :p
I still really love this song though.
Youre a Larry shipper I love u
I doubt this would be a good funeral song, either. xD Unless you were murdered...
By the way, your profile picture is on POINT.
This song keeps getting more and more relevant with each victim of each terrorist attack... RIP, you innocent souls of Nice. :'(
pray for Syria what's wrong with you everyday those peaceful people get attacked from Americans
+TheDiamondMinecart you are right
SOMEBODY PLAY THIS ON THE RADIO. SOMEBODY NEEDS TO SAY THIS. SOMEBODY PEOPLE WILL LISTEN TO.
They won't listen though. "Humans aren't gonna behave as we think we should"
"I'm not afraid of God; I am afraid of man."
This particular lyric in the song interested me and stopped me in my tracks because there's so much craziness in the world today: the pandemic because certain people do not want to listen to science; the war in Ukraine, Iran's revolution. And some people are just killing each other in the name of their religion when it says not to.
What do you think about the fact that even they admitted that the vaccines weren't properly tested and can have quite dangerous side effects?
If you look through history books (at least in USA, idk about other countries) alot of the deaths are caused by religion
"One man build a bomb
Another run a race
To save somebody's life and have it blow up in his face."
That last line you typed "To save somebody's life
and have it blow up in his face" is most likely a reference to when a lifeguard saved an unconscious drowning woman & was later accused of rape because he did not ask her if he was allowed to save her.
Darkness Nighthingale it was actually referencing the Bombing in the Boston marathon
@@viviandarkbloom4248 Sadly it is, But I will still hope for the one that has a greater impact behind it.
Darkness Nighthingale Wth don’t undermine the Boston marathon bombing. Both matters are horrible and impactful, let’s leave it at that.
Please have respect.
this is the best song i ever heard, the lyrics are so true and it makes u think about everything, war, killings, terrorism, rape.. love u marina thanks for creating this and share it with the world! this song should have millions of streams!!!
the lyrics alone are genius
This lady is honest that’s the problem she knows the truth and accepts it rather than being in denial or ignoring it she knows and voices the truth that deep down everyone knows but no one else has guts to voice out most people don’t approve of her because she’s too smart for this world
Is it normal that this song makes me cry like a river? Or am I just too sensitive?
I think your sign it's pisces or cancer
(just kidding)
Sagittarius. Lol
+Pablo Coppens check the rest of your birth chart
+Pablo Coppens where im from just the very fact we listen to marina says, we're already sensitive chaps
Broke the replay button. I'm crying while listening to this because this song so accurately describes today's world.
Anybody else reminded a little bit of Divergent when listening to this song?
her voice is mesmerizing and haunting
Ill never forget how this era made me feel. Thank you Marina for such an iconic album.
The meaning of this song is so powerful, it hits me really hard being a person who feels this way about society
As a philosopher, I must say this is excellent.

She's an INFJ herself ! XD
This and _Solitaire_ got me all the way fucked up lmao

+bubblegum bitch I did an acoustic version of Savages at my school's talent show last year and the audience was dead silent you could tell it fucked them up. The leader of student council actually told me not to say "rape" the first night we performed but I did it anyways the second night and just looked into her eyes like "let Marina speak the truth" lol. Yeah this, Immortal, Blue, Solitaire are my favorites from FROOT.
Emma Bishop u 2 :)
This is running through my head today in the USA
I think she's the most underrated songwriter of her generation
"One man can build a bomb, the other run a race to save somebody's life and have it blow up in his face."
Really good, clever way to tie two verses together when it seemed like they were going to go different directions.
Why didn't I know this masterpiece before? I like how this song has such a powerful meaning, hard to be found in most songs on charts
+Jorge Correa best song i ever heard from marina, just perfect
*”I’m not afraid of God, I am afraid of Man.”*
These lyrics hit the hardest during this Corona situation. It’s *people* putting politics and superstitions over actual science that are killing us. Humanity is screwed.
Doubling-down on this.
Actual science has proven us "conspiracy theorists" right about the dangers of a vaccine that hasn't been properly tested
marina makes really good music. her pop music isn't generic in the lyrics. it isn't about love and parties, which are main topics, but rather about the truth of humankind. sadly the music on the radios want to make us dumb and happy and thinking of partying all the time. i love marina's realness, how she's raw and direct in a musical way. this is what makes a valuable and extraordinary artist, truly. god bless marina. i hope she never stops making music.
p.s. it's sad i can't imagine any seriously popular radio channel to play this song. it's just too true. but i think they should!! people need to wake up and DO something!

I deeply agree
Yea but the academy sold out years ago to popular records e.g. Idiots like taylor swift and Beyoncé who are praised for supporting this or that but behind it all they are both savages hidden behind ties and marriages lol
I read that as Germany... should have won a G e r m a n y...
This era deserves more than this. So powerfull songs and lyrics, why shit song are So famous When real talent flop?
Never underestimate how many stupid people exist. We are outnumbered...
@@philiposborne982 Sadly, you are right. We are outnumbered.
UK should send Marina to the eurovision
-She is Welsh not English, and if she did go into eurovision(which I doubt she ever would since its kitsch and cheesy af) she would represent United Kingdom not England.-
oh yeah, you're right
***** ***** I'm going to have to enlighten you two. England does not enter Eurovision by itself, it enters as the United Kingdom, so with Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. So Marina can represent the UK in Eurovision if she wanted to.
she's said she would like to represent Greece...
alx64uchiha that would be a fucking EPIC WIN

Best song on the album for sure. It really is quite fantastic.
this song is just so true and real. it literally describes "humans".
Happens in Boston, Happens in Paris. ''I'm not afraid of god, i'm afraid of man''.
+Ero sajor Hi, just to be sure there is no confusion, it's "I'm not afraid of Man" (like mankind, so it's everyone, not like only guys ;) ).
+Jessie Rocket It's ''I'm afraid of man'' thanks.
+Nicki Muriel Sorry if there is a confusion, I guess you haven't realized Ero sajor just modified his message^^" I was answering to his 1rst one (I didn't tell him to "add a caps" but to change "men" into "man", if this is what you think I did).
