People seem to have mixed opinions on that. I say sometimes it does need a little flush. Usually it doesn't. Depends on your PID setting, and how long it's sitting.
Would you say it s better value then the appartamento ? Don t want to go wrong on my next purchase ... looking for the Ascaso Steel PID, Profitec 500 PID or Appartamento... 🤔
The Rocket Giotto V would be a better comparison with this machine. People like the Appartamento because it has dots on the side, but the Giotto has a PID, and an insulated boiler as well as an extra gauge. Similar features to this machine.
Hi, I always purge and wipe after steaming, this is important to keep your wand nice and clean. With everything happening I must have missed it in this video but I do recommend doing it every time.
Hi, I bought from you guys a Profitec pro 500 about six months a go... do you think Profitec will sell a retrofit for the Pro 500 that doesnt have PID? thanks and keep the good work!!!
gilochas I would have to ask Profitec if this is possible. It would not be straight forward though because you would have to cut through the frame to mount it.
Hi, with a heat exchanger boiler the PID replaces the pressure stat, it does not directly control the extraction temperature. The temperature inside the boiler is very high (Steaming) and any water that remains inside the heat exchanger from your previous extraction will also be too hot which I why I suggest flushing it.
so if this machine is so well made and great the job, why is it discontinued all ready, and if not where can i get one in ca . great video by the by. i was almost stuck buying another illy iperesso machine (that only last a few years) (free with pod subscription ) that makes decent espresso every time and no clean up blah blah, but like the printers the money is made with the constantly buying of the ink,.... i am looking for a refurbished one . do you recommend that, do you have one for sale? and thanx e
Eric Sager this machine is not discontinued, it was only recently released in the pid version. We have it in stock as of this writing and ready for immediate shipment
Yes, but it’s on the PID, that’s hidden behind the drip tray. What I do is pull the tray forward just enough to see the PID but not too far that the water from the OPV spout misses the tray. 1/4” +/- should be enough of a gap. It’s an awesome machine and mine has the shot valve on top of group head to control extraction.
i'm trying to decide between the 500 and 700, so aside from one being an hx and another db, what other significant differences am i looking at? and where does the 600 stand? thanks
A more fair comparison is between the 500 and 600 when you are comparing hx to double boiler. The 600 is a vibration pump machine like the 500. The Pro 500 is a pid controlled heat exchanger and the 600 has pid control over both boilers. The 700 has a rotary pump and the ability to run as a pour over or plumbed in
@@iDrinkCoffeeCanada alright! what about in terms of steaming capabilities across the 3? i find myself making 3-5 consecutive milk drinks from time to time. does pulling a shot and steaming at the same time hinder the hx in any way?
PID stands for Proportional Integral Derivative which are the three variables used for its calculation. On an espresso machine the PID controller is used to control the temperature so it acts like a digital thermostat. It works like the cruise control on a car does. You have a set speed and the car accelerates to that speed. On an espresso machine you have a set temperature and the controller turns the heating element on and off to reach that temperature. There is no active way of cooling so if you reduce the temperature the heat has to dissipate .
Do not buy this machine. It has a latent defect where the solid state relay overheats and fails after 6 months. Profitec currently has no fix for it and from what I can tell isn't working on it. They replace the SSR for free but my machine has been through two relays in just over a year.
The video mentions you have to still flush but with the pid version this is not correct and you no longer have to flush before pulling your shot. Check the videos at other sites like WLL.
I recommend a cooling flush with all heat exchanger machines. The pid has only replaces the pressurestat and controls the temperature of the water inside the boiler which is still well over boiling temperature. The water inside the actual heat exchanger still too hot and should be flushed before a shot.
@@iDrinkCoffeeCanada You should go talk to the guys at whole latte love, they did technical reviews and even measured the outputs of the machine. The major point of the profitec 500 PID is that it maintains the temperature very accurately and does not need flushing.
No-one has ever told me about where to store the blind basket! Many thanks - only 1 portafilter on the bench now!
Whyd they hide the display under the tray? It also has a shot timer
You shouldn't need to flush a heat exchanger that has a pid, no?
People seem to have mixed opinions on that. I say sometimes it does need a little flush. Usually it doesn't. Depends on your PID setting, and how long it's sitting.
Any chance Profitech will move the PID display to a similar location as the 600? With shot timmer? Only seems logical.
My shot is coming out very slow and dripping out, am I making the coffee grind to fine or pressing it down to hard?
yes, it sounds like your coffee is ground too fine. Coarsen your grind and it will help.

Good enough for coffee shop?
I came for the machine but could you tell me what table the machine is on? I've been looking for one just like that.
Sure, the table is made by Whalen, it is a workbench. I bought it at Costco in Canada.
Why no purge after steaming milk?

Hi, nice video, thanks.
The cup that you use when you flush the group, what’s its name and where can i get it ?
Thank you //Dan

What is the meaning of ( PID ) ?

Clive recommends a cooling flush; water gets up to steaming temp and is too hot for brewing.
Tamping is so 2018. Lol
