On the floral shorts and the blue pants with the stretch on the back, I think you may be confusing smocking with an elastic back waistband. Smocking is typically 1 layer of fabric with elastic stitch lines. I believe the pants have a piece of thick elastic in it, with stitching lines to keep the fabric and elastic from rolling around in place. Sorry, I think my seamstress background is showing!😂
